Why are most police officers more on the conservatives side?

Why are most police officers more on the conservatives side? I could be wrong. But various sources, including my personal experience tell me that most POs tend to lean right.

Why?

Now some of you are gonna argue: because conservatives are more into authoritarianism, because conservatives love guns and the application of violence, because conservatives tend to become racist cops... to all that I would simply argue: police academy ain't no cake walk, by saying POs became conservatives first, then cops later, you are giving cons way too much credit and insulting a lot of capable, society-contributing liberals.

So here is my theory: because reality is on the conservative side. Oh yea shots fired. Because your softcore, do-gooder, koombaya can't-we-just-get-along rainbow & unicorn liberal/progressive ways simply don't work.

Try to talk to a drug dealer about hungry children in Africa. Or preach gender-equality to human traffickers.

I suspect tons of cop actually started off being a by default liberal, open-minded and all encompassing, but were driven day after day, into becoming a very cynical person. They are much more disappointed in our society than some of the goody two shoes liberals, because they have to deal with much more nasty crap than a cold shoulder from your boss... on daily basis.

Because as you grow mature, you grow conservative. And there ain't faster way to grow mature than to expose you to all the ugliness of our society with intensity.

 

I don't know. Not all liberals are as you describe. There are plenty of cynical, perhaps even misanthropic liberals.

 

Both my Parents are on the Conservative side...and i know they didn't start out that way (i have heard the stories...lol) Dad was with the Sheriff's Dept for 31 yrs...and Mom was never more that 10ft away from the scanner when he was on duty...i think it was harder on Her than Him... Chasing armed robbery suspects into the woods at night.....Pulling over a car on a dark country road, that matches the one that is APBed, dealing with people every day that aren't smart enough to stay out of trouble, seeing first hand....the effects of freebies / Govt handouts...and how that has all destroyed the Family in low income areas , etc.......has a sobering effect over time...LEO....Are on the front line every day, and see the damage Liberalism causes up close......

 

on another thread a poster was saying they did not like cops cause they were all too liberal - lol

guess when partisan people do not like some group, they see them as the other party .... be it the IRS, the FBI, Cops ,Teachers, you name it

The rank and file of the above agencies are a mix of regular hard working people for the most part. The brass/high ranking hacks (many of which are appointed) are just that, hacks who put their personal gain first and foremost.

 

Cops I know and worked with are like most people. A little here, a little there. Depends on the issue and as long as - like the military - they leave their politics at home, no one cares. At least where I come from.

 

Because conservatives are more apt to believe in authority and law and order. Easy enough. See ya!

 

Because the police see enough of human nature to know that the liberal axiom that humans are inherently good is rubbish.

There's a big difference been urban LEO's and all others. Considering an urban cop always has to deal with the lowest of the low, especially in a metropolitan area with a sizeable black (and hostile) population, psychological burn out comes anywhere between 10 and 15 years.

 

Being conservative means understanding what reality is, and dealing with it honestly and effectively. Being on the front lines of law enforcement brings one up to speed on those concepts rather quickly. Yet I know many cops that I consider to be liberal.

Personally I don't think he was right in the head.

 

I would think that even Liberal Cops are considering Trump this time around... Obama, and his administration have been anti-cop every chance they have had.. I'm not sure about Hillary... She has been kinda under the radar on the BLM thing..and hasn't really weighed in on law enforcement issues... But if the way she turned her back..and watched our Military men, and Ambassador get slaughtered in Benghazi without lifting a finger to help them...is any indicator....?

 

I think most cops wind up conservative by default. Most cops go into policing to help people. Once there, they suddenly discover the leftist twits in charge of most of our major cities have as their primary concern hanging o to power and throwing however many cops under the bus as necessary to keep the coalition of ignorance together that keeps returning them to power no matter how terribly they screw things up.

 

I tell some FBI middle management they are going to be in trouble when president Trump is sworn in.
I would imagine the top level FBI who live in D.C. have already covered their exit strategy from covering for left wing terrorist groups, (which they do.)
As they say about any bureauacracy the sh*t flows down hill.

To be fair, FBI and Cops are clearly more in line with the conservatives, the IRS and Teachers are more on the liberals' side.

Not everyone is in it for money. In the case of IRS, that's what happens if you can't land a job with good firms like PwC LOL.

As for those Ph.d teachers s who got stuck with a school forever, skipping from one government program to another... they knew themselves the best.

 

Most people. Heck, overwhelming majority of the people in the military are conservative as H. I knew a Vietnamese kid who was pretty liberal before he joined the Army but ended up a full blood registered republican. He said it's not rare at all if you hear the rants of Rush Limbaugh or Dennis Prager from time to time. Things change after they retire, though. The free-ranging, stay in Japan/Korea kind tend to shift to the liberal side, while the settle down, married and have kids kind tend to stay conservative.

Yes, they've certainly led the way on global warming, evolution, sex education, the ozone, acid rain, suppressing, research into gun violence and BENGHAZI!

 

If she became vocal on the whole BLM issue, she is at risk of either losing a good chunk of the black vote, or alienating the white democrats base.

I agree with OP. cops see reality and realize that asking a serial killer to stop and play paddy cake isn't going to work.
