Cleveland — Republicans looking to unseat Donald Trump as their party’s presidential nominee appear to have the signatures they need to force a full vote on the national convention rules, a move intended to provide a platform for anti-Trump voices and to embarrass the billionaire.

To force that vote, the faction would need signatures from the majority of delegates from 7 states or territories. According to documents provided to POLITICO, they have a majority of signatures from 9: Colorado, Washington state, Utah, Minnesota, Wyoming, Maine, Iowa, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

The group says former New Hampshire Sen. Gordon Humphrey has submitted the signatures to the convention secretary.

Submitting those signatures would force a roll call floor vote from all 2,472 delegates to the convention on the Republican National Committee rules that an 112-member panel voted through last week. Those rules required pledged delegates to vote for the candidate dictated by their state’s primary or caucus results, a system that would allow Trump to clear the number of votes he needs for a nomination. The faction is hoping those rules will be voided and replaced with rules that allow delegates to vote their conscience.

While they’re highly unlikely to win the roll call vote, the Never Trump delegates hope to at least draw attention to their cause and, with a large vote count, prove what they've long claimed: that a significant section of the party still doesn't support the presumptive nominee.

The RNC and Trump campaign have been working to avoid such a vote, hoping to present a united front at the convention.

Seems a lot of states want to embarrass the GOP nominee. So much for party unity.

How can they possibly win when they spit in the face of their own voters? Very few will vote Republican when they know their vote only counts when the political bosses approve.

The fact that this is going on at all is a sign of how bad the electoral system is functioning. The GOP establishment is acting like Trump stuffed ballot boxes.

The people voted. Trump won. The message here is clear.

Look, I am not a Trump supporter by design, although I did warn many people here who laughed when he announced that anyone with his money and name recognition could win.

The point is, I am against stacking the deck just because you don't like the cards you are dealt.

Yes but they can still force a floor vote roll call, which will demonstrate how much of the party isn't behind him.

    LOL

Everyone knows who the Never Trumpers are.

    It's always the same people.

It just makes more people support Trump.

You guys haven't realised that by now?

    Put it this way ...

You have a guy running for school president. Most of the school is behind him, but the same small group of creepy outcasts keep trying to attack him. It just makes him more popular. :)

Nobody really cares about either party. But a vote should count....if not let's just have a committee pick who is going to run and go from there. We could save millions in election campaigns, etc.

Scared of the fact you're losing, and even you know your candidate is unlikable and corrupt. :)

I feel sorry for you because you have so little, and have to put your hopes on the Never Trumpers.

Who have already lost. Badly.

She's up in the polls and more likable in the polls. Are you trying to convince me or yourself? I don't know if Hillary will win, but I do know that you'll have a new screen name if she does lol

What needs to be understood is that this is a pitch fork rebellion. The Amerian working and middle class are p.o.'d.
And they were feed up with political corectness before Trump broke it to bits.
As more and more people come out from under the ether of 50 years of P.C. brainwashing Trumps poll numbers are likely to increase rapidly.

This concept that that votes can go either way is a delusion.

Nobody who votes Democrat is going to vote Republican.

These days politicians don't campaign to get the other side to vote for them.

They campaign to get people to actually get off their asses and cast the vote for the side they already support in their made-up-minds.

The only other voter initiative involved is the shuffling of voters around, ie transplanting ghettos into suburbs and of course spreading illegal aliens around.

The Republicans know there are way too many welfare moochers and clueless liberals to ever get the Presidency back, their time is over and the country is too.

They're just pissed at Trump because he is the inner reflection of that reality.

Face it, liberals have created the perfect permanent underclass and its contains the majority of all Americans now.

Jokes on them though because they're never getting out of that permanent underclass no matter how many promises and welfare checks their overlords hand out.

No they'll just stay home. Although several prominent republicans have said they'll vote for Hillary....how many more will that nobody cares to listen to?

The RNC has to hold a figurative "gun to the head" of its OWN delegates to vote for its OWN presumptive Nominee.

Even most Trump Cultists know that if the delegates could vote their conscious, Trump's current delegate count would be cut down by 200-400 delegates in the vote.

She's sinking in the polls, and Trump will pass her after the convention.

Hillary won't win, but I'm not the type to hide if I'm wrong.

My interest in this country will evaporate if she wins, however, as I'll write America up to a lost cause, so I wouldn't have a lot to say.
