    "1. Boomshakalaka
Also known as 'the guy with the unnecessarily loud rifle,' this guy delights in corking off his non-magnum rifle with an unneeded and overly large muzzle brake at every given opportunity....

    "2. The Crazy Militia Dude....

"3. Mr. 'Unnecessary Firing Line Commands'

"This guy will loudly inform you that he is 'going hot' before shooting each magazine he loads, despite the range already being in a hot condition. Some of these type will use other commands like 'fire in the hole' (which means you’re using explosives, not shooting) or 'SEND IT' or something macho he heard in a movie or Call of Duty....

    "4. All Money, No Skill...

    "5. The Fondler

"There’s a time to handle your guns, and when other shooters are downrange dealing with targets is NOT it. Some people think they can do anything and everything with their guns any time they want, including preparing magazines, loading guns, and even pointing them downrange at people while the line is cold...

    "6. Obnoxious Target Dude

"Some people like to shoot odd things to add to the fun, and, while that’s usually cool, if something is messy, hazardous, obnoxious, or unsafe, you probably shouldn’t do it....

    "7. The 'Range Safety Officer'

"Many ranges have a person who is part of the staff fulfilling the role of Range Safety Officer. Unfortunately, other ranges often have a person who is NOT part of the staff fulfilling the role of Range Safety Officer via self-appointment....

    "8. The Target Whisperer

"This guy likes to check his target … a lot. You aren’t even through your first magazine, and he wants the range to go cold so he can go see where he hit before shooting again....

    "9. The Pest

"This guy won’t leave you, or others, alone. He might be ogling your guns or gear, or talking when no one is listening or cares, or dispensing advice if you’re doing something with which he disagrees.....

    "10. The Poor Host

"The poor host is none of the above idiots, but his guests are...."

    Which type are you?

Funny that I never have run into any of these folks. Some of this behavior would get you ejected from the range immediately.

You forgot "Undercover Jihadi getting practice"
Lying and saying they're from Columbia or something when they clearly are middle-eastern.

The only one of those that the range I go to has is #1

The type that's actually been to a range and doesn't need to invent an entire alternate reality so he can make a point.

This guy has everything from a .50 BMG rifle to a full auto M4 and everyone wants to shoot them.

My range only goes to 500yds.
    If I had another 500, I'd have a 50BMG rifle.

Agreed... with conducting a many types of training classes, my work for a couple ranges fixing and setting up guns, diagnosing gun issues, reliability testing, etc. I am frequently at the range as are some who post here that are in completition or similarly conducting training. Most of us are meticulous adherents to gun safety, continually situationally aware on the range and vocal when observing dangerous behavior, seeing opportunities to teach or reinforce gun safety in others or having people ejected if they are obvious repeat violators. It is everyone's responsibility, not just a range master's job, to insure ranges are safe for all.

The ranges I work with all have both written rules and vidoes on range safety and have developed cultures where gun safety and etiquette are practiced, reinforced and enforced. Any range that doesn't do that would face significant liability. The vast majority of people I see on the range are responsible gun owners that would frown upon poor behavior.

I have spent thousands of hours on public indoor ranges, and somewhat public outdoor ranges and private outdoor ranges. I don't know where the OP got his list-it means nothing to me.

The Target Shooter like most everyone else. Sometimes the vet. Most often the responsible.

The kind that doesn't hide under his bed and hopes the Police show up in time.

By the way, #7 is everyone at the range. Everyone is responsible for safety, and is a common requirement at ranges that don't have designated safety officers.

As per usual, your posts are heavy on theory, but completely lacking in actual fact.

I agree, I worked at a Range / Gun store and rather than complain, We all did our very best to make sure everyone could have the best experience possible and lots of safe clean fun, everyone did their bit, it is far easier to carp and criticize others and point out faults and wave the dirty end of a stick at others, Ban them or other assorted Hog wash that helps nobody, it is much more productive to take a novice under your wing and nurture them.

I see people that want others to fail and this is not right, it is better to help them improve, as it will help us all in the long run.

Yep, most people doing something on the range that's not kosher will comply with requests to change whatever they're doing. Range masters in a controlled range will KNOW what the weapon is and who the shooter is, especially if there is a membership option. There was an old man with his wife who raised absolute hell about clearing my weapon before he went downrange to change targets while I was talking to the range master. I had a yellow chamber flag in the weapon and pointed it out to him. He had no idea what a chamber flag was "somewhat" apologetic when told. Nevertheless he learned something and quit his bellyaching. AR and semi shooters will often be separated and have screens to catch expended brass. I'm not sure if a ported non-magnum represents a problem at all. My non-ported 458 Lott is much worse. I hope they pull this post. It's pure flame bait and implies a know nothing knowledge about gun ranges.

This post reminds me of a story about a Preacher that went to Africa with a novice Preacher, and they were invited to the estate of a wealthy powerful Warlord that wanted to hear some bible teaching, well this guy spreads a feast as they often do, gourmet food, very expensive, and after, the Warlord asks how they liked the food, now the senior Pastor never instructed the novice on how to act or protocol or diplomacy or any of the salient things guests in other countries need to know, so the assistant compliments the food, but is a bit over critical of some methods of the foods preparation, and points them out.

The warlord calls out the cook and shoots and kills him.

All the Senior Pastor could think of doing was to fire the assistant even though it was not his fault since he did not know the customs of such cultures and had not been instructed.

People need instruction and help in such endeavors, it is always easy to watch people fail, like all the you tube videos of first time shooters with Magnums smack themselves in the teeth with a hard recoiling gun while people film the video and laugh, knowing full well what would happen and why they make videos like that, just plain nasty.

It is the reason this thread was made, pointless cruel jabs that help no one really interested in shooting sports and helping new and or inexperienced shooters.

Thread Closed - Rule 2 - Insults to a Group

The OP insults people at a shooting range and makes the assumption that everyone at the range is one of just ten types.
