I taught a firearm safety course this past weekend that was most diverse group that I have ever had the honor of teaching. More and more women have been taking safety and concealed classes the past couple of years, but in addition to that, now it seems that the classed are becoming quite more diverse. This had been the trend this year. Here was the make up of the class: 23 yo white woman bank teller 47 yo Asian man accountant 44 yo black man store mgr 66 yo white woman retired 25 yo black woman mother 31 yo and 35 yo Hispanic married couple flower shop owners 22 yo Filipino man works for Disney 25 yo white gay man bartender (he mentioned that last year he had worked at the Pulse nightclub, scene of the recent mass shooting) 52 yo Black man real estate broker Most were all first time gun owners.
When I first became certified, I was pretty excited and I did indeed put together what you might call a syllabus. That was about 9-10 years ago and now I just teach from memory. I'm not sure if I even have that list now. I have learned that how I teach a class depends upon the experience of the class in general. Sometimes it is quite light hearted and other times its much more serious.
I want to take some sort of advanced classes at some point, an Advanced Instructors training class, so I can be a better Instructor. When I was teaching, CCW in particular, I had much input, from qualified LE Instructors, even a few Lawyers and the odd ADA to make sure all course elements were legally correct. The training followed established LE training closely. The NYS Penal code was the core reference.
When I saw the thread title, I thought you were going to talk about diversity in guns. I have a diverse gun collection that includes a semi-auto, a pump, a lever action, a bolt-action and a single shot. I have rifles, shotguns and handguns.......
in a country where everyone has a right to own a gun, I expect many will own guns - but it is good more are seeking training, everyone that plans to buy a gun should get some basic training .
Just pointing out my experience in the change of gun ownership demographics. Never said what I thought. Youre a poor mind reader and trying to make something out of nothing.
Ah, the teenage student trying to prove he is smarter than the teacher again. Got it. With nothing relevant to contribute, you come off as an antagonist.
And true to his avatar picture,a troll through and through. - - - Updated - - - Is your avatar picture a self portrait? It would be consistant with most of your post.
The picture is me wearing my sponsors jersey at a International Defensive Pistol Assn. (IDPA) shooting match.
Hey Chuck... I can tell you are a stand up guy. Don't let the wimpy libs get under your skin. They're not worth it.
So what all do you teach OP? I'm not in the same area but I might consider your business depending on what you offer. If its against the rules to advertise then PM me.
