Colonel Uzay Sahin said that in order to gain the Turkish people's support for the coup, the army had plans to break through the Greek defenses at the Evros River by using an engineering brigade to lay down floating bridges. He gave details of the plan, and all involved were arrested and they confirmed what he had said. This is the second time this year the Turkish army tried to invade Greece. The last time was on Orthodox Easter when they had planned on grabbing the island of Oenousis. The Greek army got whiff of it and increased their defenses and that was that. Colonel Uzay Şahin in his statement after his arrest, confessed to the Turkish press that on the evening of the coup the 54th Brigade Engineer Infantry had the responsibility of bridging the east bank with the west bank in the south Evros River, and to break through the Greek defenses. The commander of the Brigade Major Hidayet Arı was arrested immediately and admited that the invasion plan of Greece would involve the 55th Engineer Brigade whose commander Lieutenant Bekir Koçak was also arrested. What is this fascination that the Turks have with conquering Greece? My half Greek girlfriend use to tease her dark skinned, full Greek (and proud of it) Dad, that he was probably part Turk.
Where do you think they accumulated all that debt? It was buying the German subs and the French jets that did it. If they didn't they wouldn't have a country ...but now that I think of it, they don't. Only difference is instead of it belonging to Turkey, it belongs to Germany.
Their defenses are the main reason for their financial problems. Europe is using them as a buffer state.
All Greeks are proud, ... I mean what would you be if your school years were so monopolized by three thousand years of Greek history, Greek language, etc., etc., that you never had a chance to look at anyone else's. So you'll have to excuse their arrogance. They're getting their humble pie though, everyone does eventually. As for the Turks, they want to restore the empire they lost after WWI ... starting with Syria and Greece. They and Saudi Arabia started the mess in Syria... with encouragement from our State Department of course. Anyway the Greeks cannot be Turks because they were Muslims and if they converted they would have been killed, while in contrast the Turks have a great deal of Greek blood from the slaves. The dark skin has to do with the Greek colonies throughout the Mediterranean. In contrast to it I'm probably the fairest person you ever saw in your life... and I'm 100% Greek. As for the DNA it is basically the same as that of the ancient Greeks with the addition of a large chunk of French from the Crusaders, (the southern part was a crusader state), and a large chunk from the northern Italians from the Genovese and Venetian colonists. (They owned all of Greece before the Turks). There's also some Catalan and Slav blood..
They did build a wall along the river to keep out the migrants, but the EU refused to pay for it. So what did Turkey and its traffickers do, they started coming in through the islands. Can't win you know.
wrong In January 2010, the Greek Ministry of Finance published Stability and Growth Program 2010.[16] The report listed five main causes, poor GDP growth, government debt and deficits, budget compliance and data compatibility. Causes found by others included excess government spending, current account deficits and tax avoidance.
Ronstar, Greece's economy was mostly underground for different reasons, and there was a lot of corruption, but their excessive government spending was to buy the German subs and French jets they needed to protect themselves from the country with one of the largest armies in the world. The point is though that Germany could have very well told Turkey to stop threatening the Greek islands, but they didn't for obvious reasons. Anyway I read once that Israel received their German subs for free, well if it's true, it means Greece was paying for them.
Perhaps this is what jeannette is talking about: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/10895239/Greece-sues-for-7-billion-euros-over-German-submarines-that-have-never-sailed.html And if it is, it only took 5 seconds to google.
$3 billion deal. $315 billion in total debt. so yeah, your article debunks his claim that military spending created most of the debt.
I imagine Jeannette is exaggerating too. However as I said, it only took 5 seconds to google it. http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052748703636404575352991108208712 However Jeanette does not mention the biggest import of weapons to Greece. The United States.
