I was researching AR 15 makers to see what brand I would buy next. Lots of good companies make good complete lowers (which is the part you have to fill out paperwork for). I have been advising people to buy stripped lower receivers or complete lowers so if the Democrats pass another gun ban like they did in 94, you are on records as already having the "gun" and its going to be impossible for gun banners to claim that your gun is not grandfathered as was done in 94 Well one of my favorite local dealers had several SPIKES TACTICAL lowers. I had already built an M4 with a Spikes lower which I had obtained at a favorable price: I mated it with locally (SW OHIO) made upper from FAXON FIREARMS' 3G upper and for under 930, I had a top of the line basic carbine with a very good mil-spec trigger and a full length rail. Well I ended up buying a couple more SPIKES lowers (I also have one from Palmetto State Armory-a great site to get all sorts of stuff involving guns and ammo) because of what I read on the SPIKES site this morning. In light of the recent and numerous anti-gun and anti-2nd Amendment laws pending across the Nation, We will be joining other manufacturers and distributors and limiting the business we do in states that have limited the right to keep and bear arms for their citizens. As of today, it will be our policy not to sell prohibited items to law enforcement agencies, government agencies and agents in states, counties, cities and municipalities that have enacted restrictive gun control laws against their citizens. We urge other companies to join in support. Thanks, Angela Some other companies that have joined this include the maker of the famous Barrett long range target/sniper rifle: when the Peoples Socialist Collective of California banned Citizens from being able to own 50 caliber rifles, Barrett refused to service several of their rifles owned by the LAPD.
I'm an AK guy, but you can't go wrong with a Spikes Tactical lower for the M-4, several of my fiends have them that were used for builds, they love them. I wish every gun and ammo manufacturer would stop doing business in Cali all together.
Guess what organization opposes California prop 63..... The California Police Chiefs Assn. http://www.latimes.com/politics/ess...opposes-gun-control-1474648643-htmlstory.html
If you don't have the money at the moment for the complete AR, you can buy just the lower. Since the lower is the gun and it will be considered to be purchased before any gun bans may happen, you can have credit for purchasing the entire gun for the price of a stripped lower. Most stripped Spike's lowers go for around $129 or less. That's what I paid for mine last week. Good move by Spike's. Glad I bought their gun.
When I was looking for an AR, I wanted certain features and the ones with the configuration I wanted were very expensive, it was much cheaper to buy the parts and configure it myself.
I paid under 600 dollars for TWO lowers. You cannot buy a quality AR 15 for under 650 or so. - - - Updated - - - plus its cheaper since the 11% excise tax is imposed only on the receiver or the lower. I can buy whatever upper I want over the net without having to fill out any more forms. The only possible thing I replace on lowers are sometimes that actual stock and for precision rifles, I usually put in a Velocity, CMC, or Gieselle trigger.
me two-got two from AIM SURPLUS for that much. ANDERSON rifles are made in Hebron KY-about 40 minutes from my home in SW Ohio We have three good makers within 45 minutes of my house Anderson (have two receivers and a lower that a friend of mine built upon which we mounted Cincinnati Made FAXON FIREARMS ARAK 21 upper) and HM DEFENSE (MT Orab Ohio) i have both their standard Billet lower receiver gun (with a CMC trigger) and their MONOBLOC gun (with a factory installed velocity trigger) I also have a FAXON 3gun upper (conventional AR 15) on a SPIKES Tactical lower.
Well, yeah, but if you have the money, upwards of a grand in the case written in the OP, why not just buy a complete rifle?
How many lowers can you buy as an investment? Prices may change drastically and availability can change after the election. After 0bama was elected, AR prices doubled for a while. You could sell half of your purchase for double what you paid and the other half would be free. Just don't sell too many so that the BATFE rides your butt for selling too much without an FFL.
If such was done by all major manufacturers, it is likely that such legislation would not even be suggested any further.
As an investment? Rifle parts seem to be a silly investment. What is the estimated rate of return? Why would anyone buy then from a private party when they can just buy them new? - - - Updated - - - As an investment? Rifle parts seem to be a silly investment. What is the estimated rate of return? Used guns can go for just as much as new guns. Sometimes more. It's not a car, and if you are talking about a stripped or unfinished lower, there will be absolutely no wear on it. You could have bought an AR for $650 before the 08 election and sold it 6 months later for $1300 used.
In a high demand period, there may not be any supply from dealers. Additionally, should legislation like the proposed 2015 AWB pass, there will be no new ARs for sale but existing rifles/lowers can still be sold/transferred.
I seem to remember that the panic buying took some time after Sandy Hook, and in Colorado we had a majority Democratic legislature start working on all kinds of crazy anti-gun laws.
figuring that the AWB was going to pass in 94, I had a dealer buy a case of NORINCO AKs in 223. about 150 each. I paid for them, he kept them in his storage area. The ban passed and we sold them. HIs commission ended up being 100 a rifle, and I made thousands. I had a beat up AR 180 I had paid around 400 for -sold 1200. HK 93-500=sold 1500. a Portuguese copy of a HK G3 500-1500. I made close to ten grand over that nonsense even with the commissions (I always had a licensed dealer do the brokering). I have been upgrading my AR collection. Two Top of the line HM Defense, a FAXON ARAK 21, a SIG MCX (yeah not technically and AR), a STAG 3G competition gun, a Daniels Defense for my son and an Armalite 3G competition rifle for him and a Windham Weaponry top of the line Proctor 3G competition rifle. If the HIldabeast causes a run on ARs, I have a bunch of basic ones like Maine Bushmasters and Armalites with fixed handles I can part with-for much more than I paid for them.
