Modern GPS devices used for off-road activities (such as hiking, rivers, etc.) frequently use US GPS or Russian GPS or both, as that is more accurate than using US only - important if you are on foot. I've used the Russian system only, and that works just fine.

As for satellites, the US does not have even half the total number of satellites. Russia has about 150. China has more than that. And, the combined total satellites of the remainder of earth's nations is within 10% of our own total - meaning we are closer to having only 1/3 of the total.

So, you are just plain wrong about that part of your post.

As for operating systems for small devices, there are a number of mobile OS systems that are developed and sold outside the US. Samsung has Tizen. Ubuntu comes out of UK. Acadine is headquartered in Hong Kong.

The fact that the US got there first means that our Android and Apple have larger sales right now, but the idea that we will retain that leadership without major innovation on our part as well as having the business freedom to sell in other countries without more tariff restrictions, etc., is nonsense.

Today there are about 4.5 billion cell phone users in the world. The US has 1/3 of 1 billion total population. Whatever is major in the US is a TINY part of the market. We are 5% of the world population, and this idea that we can raise tariffs, shun education and still live like kings (as we do today) is just idiotic.

As someone who has developed software for sale overseas, meeting local market demands is not something that can be effectively done inside the US - meaning that US corporations HAVE TO have groups working in other countries even if you ignore the business issues of tax, tariffs, and the rest while meeting the demands of local culture, language, etc.

Today, we have plenty of job openings in high tech jobs (including in manufacturing), and we have those who don't have the requisite education. So, we have less than full employment. Does that sound like success to you?

Your comment about CDL makes little sense to me. It's basically a charge that rust belt manufacturing workers should have started driving truck or something. But, getting hired at your suggested salary in that industry requires more than a CDL. Plus, it doesn't show any real opportunity for growth in America. That is not where our future is.

The point with Samsung is that it is competitive in innovation - in fact, YOU like it better than the American version.

What you should notice is that our high tech leadership is NOT A LOCK. And, it is where world competition for economic leadership is headed - toward high tech, information, innovation, etc.

Today, we have a couple of the major software systems for cell phones - you probably have the Google version on yours. But, the vast majority of cell phone buyers are not in the USA, obviously. We are a minority player in terms of those who buy smart phones. And, thinking that no other nation can come up with software for cell phones is ridiculous.

We lead, when we get there first. And, we will NOT continue that leadership without dominating progress - and that is why we need to focus on the requirements for that dominating progress - education.

Trump cannot be trusted by anyone irrespective of their partisan leanings.

That much was patently obvious during the campaign and now the GOP are going to learn the hard way that Trump is a loose cannon who cannot be relied upon to carry out their agenda.

FTR I suspect that Ryan knows this about Trump and will be canny in how he deals with him. But the problem is that Trump is incapable of keeping his word on anything at all so an agreement reached at noon could be reneged upon before lunch is over.

He has already doublecrossed your party, by changing his mind about repealing Obamacare. He will keep the guaranteed issue and the dependent children provisions. These two things are what makes mandates necessary, (for everyone to be insured), so that they don't opt for insurance after they get cancer. Therefore, insurance companies will bail out after the subsidies are repealed, which means that the feds will have to subsidize the insurance companies directly in order to keep them in the game.
