On November 21, 2016, after the presidential election was resulted with a Trump victory, a group called themselves; "Turning Point USA" (TPUSA), which was founded on June 5, 2012 by Wheeling, Illinois high school graduate Charlie Kirk, came up with a shocking list called "Professor Watchlist" and published it on web. Tens of dozens of professors were profiled by their names, surnames, photos and academic contacts. The professors on the list are believed to be promoting and spreading "anti-republican" values.

    Homepage to the terrifying watchlist:

    http://www.professorwatchlist.org/index.php

    TPUSA homepage:

    http://www.professorwatchlist.org/index.php

And here's one of the profiled academics, George Yancy's article about the matter published on NYT Opinion Page:

    Source: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/30/opinion/i-am-a-dangerous-professor.html?smid=tw-share

America ! Where are you going?

DEM beliefs are still not illegal in the US,
actually similar with GOP they are vying for public support and affiliation.
That's quite a good news for the DEMS for they will know who to approach if they need in depth knowledge of their own belief as a rightful US citizen.

A list of Profs who want to move beyond education and use their classroom time to indoctrinate our youth is useful. We then have a list of people who believe they should indoctrinate people into their political ideology instead of sticking to education. Perhaps one day the university will either let go or keep the profs who are giving the young an education instead of indoctrination. University is about education and not indoctrination. You respect the brains of the students to make up their own mind about what ideology makes the most sense to them. You give them that basic intellectual freedom. And then leave it up to them to use the education they received. Indoctrination is such a nefarious and sneaky thing. It is a sin against a genuine education.

I don't understand what the complaint is. Is the OP article claiming there is professor-student secrecy privilege for which there is strictly enforced confidentiality about what professors say?

It is the Democratic Party that has gone full force into McCarthyism with their incessant Red Scare tactics hoping to recreate the 1950s Cold War with the non-existent USSR.

A professor of psychology explaining that he has been forever psychologically crippled because he is black and he sees is purpose for teaching philosophy is to call all white people racists in retaliation for how badly he feels about himself.

His OP would seem basis for his termination since he admits that he doesn't teach philosophy, he politics for the Democratic Party and for his own personal goals and psychological disturbances.

    But it is a start

It is singling out those of differing opinions - and that is concerning.

I think this is more of an issue in America where you tend not to be swinging voters - the average Aussie will always "vote for the bloke we dislike least" and that makes no difference what political persuasion they are. So labels are less here.

They should be less there. People SHOULD follow thier passions not thier ideology - you see that a little in the abortion forum where we will have right leaning people agreeing that abortion can be a "necessary evil" or at least opposing the opposition to it.

    - - - Updated - - -

Is that true for all 200 named professors?

Which other one do you want to discuss? I was discussing the author of the blog/OP-ED of the OP. You want to talk about someone else?

Do you claim the same about Donald Trump - that he should "follow (his) passion, not (his) ideology" and that anyone who posts anything negative about him is engaging in McCarthyism?

I don't understand the complaint. Why wouldn't the profs WANT everyone to know what they say and talk about? Reciting was a professor says is forbidden? Why? OMG only terrorists criticize a college professor? If you want privacy don't stand in front of groups of people spouting off your viewpoints.

Seriously, what's the beef? The rant? That any student or person even DARE criticize or question what he says. Tough luck pal. Find a different job. There are plenty of job offerings for angry black leftwing male radicals with a PhD in philosophy who will not be silenced in his employment to rant against white males. :roflol:

I'm curious if the OP would take issue with a liberal NY paper publishing names and addresses of gun owners.

I wish you'd dug deeper into the matter before jumping into conclusions with that below average cynical tude. I bet you'd then figure who actually gave support to this "high school graduate" with the list he came up with.
His name is David Joel Horowitz. The think-tank, called David Horowitz Freedom Center, contributed to the list with "12" entries. But that's not even halfway to the point. David Horowitz is also the author of book: The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America, published 10 years before the "watchlist"; in the year 2006.
I am citing the book and the author not merely for pointing out the fact that it's not just a high school graduate redneck artard who's behind such a 3rd world profiling method but to show you an apologetic a.ss of a McCarthy fanatic. Yes, David Horowitz, a big time fascist whose job is to hunt academics of "wrong" political views, devoted 3 pages for defense of McCarthy in the said book. I don't know what McCarthyism is if not writing 3 pages long of McCarthy defense. How's that for a joke now?

Absolutely. Parents and kids have a right to know if the institution is a higher learning center or a programming camp. As well as tax payers.

The professor watchlist is a great tool for college bound students and their parents. If I'm a mom or dad who will be footing the bill for my kid to go to college and study something worthwhile like science or engineering as opposed to something totally f-ing useless like gender studies, I'd want to know if my money is going to be paying the salary of some jerkoff who thinks it's OK to rant and rave about his personal degenerate Marxist political views in my kid's class while he's supposed to be teaching them.

Every name on that list is a world class Marxist dbag and should be held up to as much scrutiny and ridicule as possible.

Horowitz is not a fascist, goody.

One of the problems with the radical New Left - something Horowitz used to be part of - is how it operates in a deceptive manner, beginning with the euphemism they use to describe themselves - "progressives". As others have eloquently pointed out, arguably the worst thing these crypto-Marxist reactionaries have done is turn our institutions of higher learning into indoctrination centers. To make matters worse, they're turning our nation's universities into bastions of intellectual conformity and intolerance where people's thought and speech are strictly regulated in accordance with their own ideological views. Universities are supposed to be places where independent thought and critical thinking are encouraged, not punished.

I own a copy of Horowitz's The Professors and he's done our nation's students, parents and education activists a great service writing that book. People have a right to know what administrators and teachers are doing in our schools and to make informed choices about where they spend their education dollars. This right extends to the taxpayers who are helping fund our public colleges and universities.

Mass arrests and concentration camps, what a joke. THAT"S not McCarthyism.

If having your politics place you on a list the threatens your employment isn't McCarthyism just what in hell IS?

Does this list also include the conservative professors? or are only liberals capable of "indoctrination"?

If trump gets more involved with the middle east wars, these same people who seem to want a war with Russia, will be in the streets demonstrating against trump as they did bush, but stayed home when Obama war mongered. These people are apparently not concerned about policy, but with just winning a war against the other tribe. Being devoid of real concern for this nation, or our foreign policy, they are consumed with a primitive base tribalism that the intellect exercising rationality, logic, reason cannot rise above, in these people. If you do not understand what drives them, you might take them seriously. The only thing serious about this is these people can vote. And only elect leaders based on tribalism. Which explains why Clinton was their candidate. Tribalism shuts down rationality, logic, reason. And since we choose our leaders, the absence of these essential attributes can only send us down, not up.

If a professors want to use their influence to push an agenda on students, those responsible for paying their salary should be made aware. There is also a site called rate my professor.

During the election, my son was passing out copies of the constitution and a Libertarian pamphlet on his campus. He was told to stop or the police would be called. He was told that he had to do that in the "free speech" area. That area had a huge Vote For Hillary tent and people carrying signs, passing out leaflets. That crowd was not confined to the "Free speech area because there were professors in that group.

This is an attempt to intimidate these professors. It will expand to include others perhaps you will someday find yourself on some list . With your picture, and where you live, and your family and your dog. How would you like that ?

    This is terrorism .

I think you should know what you are talking about before even having a kid, let alone sending him to college. What is marxism? What does scientific socialism mean? Please explain. And btw, is there any professor watchlist for academics of republican tendency? Expecting a list or anything in general for one's favor only and not giving a damn about others is pure fascism.

Im sorry talon, but labeling and/or profiling of people for any reason but "criminal" law requirements is unfortunately a fascist practice because people do have right to state opinions freely, and live by the ideologies they choose in legal boundaries without being physically or psychologically harassed via such primitive tools. Needless to say, the profs on the list were not asked permission for publishing their contacts on a website which right wing terror groups can reach easily and target the ones on the list.

And please let me ask you this; are there any lists like this full of academics with patriotic tendencies? You know, if we are for democracy and freedom we can at least seek reciprocality before polarization makes its way to our neighborhoods, right?

Actually that might be evidence of McCarthyism. Im beginning to realize you don't comprehend the meaning of the term.

Since being placed upon such a list does no such thing, not sure of the relevance of your hypothetical. The current state of higher education likely extols professors given such designations.

No one is depriving these teachers of their right to express themselves and live by the ideology of their choosing, goody. On the other hand, some of these professors have actively attempted to deprive others of those rights, so who are the fascists (or Stalinists) here?

The faculty at the university I attended is publicly listed online along with a photo and their contact addresses, and I presume that is the case with most, if not all, colleges and universities.

By the way, who are these so-called "right wing terror groups" and what violent acts have they committed?

I don't know if there are any watch lists for what few conservative professors teach in our universities, however I do know that Leftists have engaged in similar practices so this is not limited to right-wing activists.

Bottom line, as long as these watch lists are legal and the people who are compiling them are acting in accordance with the law, there are no criminal or civil offenses being committed here. Furthermore, if you are employed at a public university, your actions on campus are public, not private, matters and the public has a right to know about them.

Seriously. Being a communist and a former Weatherman terrorist didn't prevent William Ayers from getting a job at the University of Illinois.

Heck, it didn't keep the 44th President of the United States from launching his political career in Ayers' living room, either.

So George Yancy 'refuses to remain silent' on racism, sexism, and transgender issues, does he? New flash, George. That's not your job. You job is PURELY to teach the 'science' of psychology. Separate your gargantuan ego from your role as unemotional messenger, delivering cold hard facts. Atheist teachers can teach theology without compromising the potential for any student to believe. Capitalists can teach the history of communism without revealing their own personal position on same.

Sounds to me as though you need to be on that list .. twice for good measure.
