Anyone here ever been to Palm Beach?
When I was a kid, the family used to vacation in Ft Lauderdale. We used to pass through Palm Beach. One time we stopped to look around. We were rather rudely forced to leave town. Anyone with out of state plates was a target. The people at the time were rich, white, racist "old money" snobs. No wonder they had such a problem with Trump. He didn't give a crap about their money, power or socially accepted norms.

Yet some people here (the hard core anti-Trumpers) seem to fully support Palm Beach over Trump. Who's the racist now?

No, I can't. I don't know anything about Kerry peddling ketchup. But I guess you made that up.

Trump has been for sale every day of his life.

He conned the fools who voted for him by railing against Wall Street. Then he hired Wall Street.

He claimed he was going to save the Rust Belt, and hired the guys who cashed it out and shut it down.

He promised high paying jobs, but he hires from the thired world and his labor secretary doesn't believe in unions or the minimum wage.

His education secretary thinks that the private prison system is an excellent model for public education.

He's peddling his name and his brand all over the place.

Not the brand of the United States, or the American people. Only what goes in his pocket!

Six months ago, folks like you made show of bristling at the suggestion that Trump would show such blatant disregard for any semblance of professional ethics. You'd quote Trump about draining the swamp and turning over his business.

Now that he has done the exact opposite (as folks like me foretold) you're turning right around and embracing his blatant, historic, corruption and making excuses for it.

Official state paperwork is "making a show"?

Why the constant stream of snarky comments?

No it wasn't me. If you recall the discussion was about individuals lowering their carbon foot print. You brought up that Obama had a huge foot print. I agreed but that was because the nature of his job mandates that. Just like I don't ever expect in my lifetime to fly commercial on a plane with a legally blind pilot I don't expect a president will ever have a small footprint, in my lifetime.

Trump needs as much or more security as his predecessors, obviously he has as many or more people out there wanting him incapacitated.
However, when the price tag runs to an additional $2 billion because he wants to live in a skyscraper and country clubs rather than a house, with a yard, two cats and a fence like everyone of his predecessors then I object, particularly when he claims to be cutting the budget of fat. But what galls the most is that a large chunk of that money goes in his pocket or do you believe he'll let the Secret Service use the floor below him as a buffer for free and insist that they remove security upgrades made in those buildings? I bet it'll be the highest rent anywhere anytime that they've paid. By far. That $2 billion could give every American college student a $1000 towards their education or help build the useless wall without Home land security having to cut their budgets for programs.

Usually, I'd just go to the tape, but since the archive no longer is available.....

That being said, here's the issue at hand. Do you have a citation for the Secret service detail having to pay rent for the building? I couldn't find a reference for it. What evidence then do you have that the protection detail would be paying rent at all?

I see why you're fixated on $2B. It is a lot of cach for sure, but you never really thought that it was extravagant before, but now you do? Likely this is simply a change of heart for you? Would you be retaining this position in the future is a D is ever elected again? Likely not. But who knows when that might ever be.

Personally, I don't believe in the massive footprint. I don't believe there are those among us so special that they require battalions of military to travel with them wherever they go. Afterall, it's the office, not the individual, right?

I'd be more than happy if we spent less on this. I would have been just as happy if you would have supported it the last time this conversation came up.

Whatever's reasonable. The Obama library will include customer parking and you know tour busses are where they make most of their money. Plus it's Chicago so they'll also need to provide armed security.

We'll never know for sure because the SS is not in the habit of discussing presidential security.

The $2 billion is an estimate of the additional cost because he doesn't want to live in a house, not the total cost and he is personally going to profit from this.
I'm sure Jimmy Carter could build him a nice place.

Florida isn't lying. Trump is. He does it as a matter of course. He rarely opens his mouth without doing it at some point.

And he would not hesitate to attest to a document naming a front man as head of an organization he really controls. It comes quite naturally to him.

And if you complained because you took his word at face value, he'd laugh right in your face and tell you that it was your fault for being dumb enough to believe him in the first place.

That's exactly how he operates, and always has.

Nice to see that those who spent decades criticizing the Clintons for corruption are now using the Clintons as the ethical standard by which to judge Trump.

Jealousy of wealth, power & success. Some here seem unable to contain their loathing.
But then I wonder.............are they mad at Trump's success, or are they compensating for their own failures?
The blind hatred is beginning to make sense.

Well, the standard seems to be no one cared about ethical concerns where Hillary/Bill or more recently John Kerry and his association with Heinz during his tenure as SOS were ignored by folks who now want to hyperventilate about this President.

Ridiculous claims... First, he should be paid by taxpayers, and inside deals should be prosecuted for corruption.. Funny how the right wingers love corruption and lies all of a sudden.

Second, his property is insured, but that probably does not include against rising oceans. You really think insurance companies are going to just pay everyone whose property is destroyed by rising oceans to just build new ones. That insurance will cover the cost of global warming?

President Trump is a public servant who is not accepting compensation for his public service, corruption is when a public servant gives special favors to the rich under the rule of law in return for receiving compensation from the taxpayer, which is how the current establishment of government operates.

President Trump was elected by the people, if he profits from his position of power that is fine as long as the people who elected him prosper along side him.

Flooding insurance covers private property from rising oceans caused by global warming, the constitution will mandate the insurance companies pay for President Trumps private property should Florida be flooded by the man made causes of climate change if it goes to the courts.
