Only in America will you see the average guy rooting for CEOs and calling for terrible treatment towards workers who are exactly the same as them (but with more spine).

And this ladies and gentlemen is why we have unions and laws to protect workers.

At will does not mean you can fire anyone for any reason. If employees can cite a pattern of action whereby they are fired for calling in sick the company can be sued

If you're willing to pay an ER for a doctor's note I wish you luck and happiness on your day off.

I got fired for calling in sick too often in a calendar year,by a city government employer, even with proof of being sick. That was last March, have not worked since.

So many people looking for jobs and what does the left keep doing? Holding "day without blah blah blah" rallies.
    How insensitive.

It's as if the left is trying it's best never to be in office again.

And you'd most likely end up in front of the NLRB for several violations of federal labor law. As an employer you would likewise be sending a clear message to your employees that you don't care at all about their health and welfare, which could only hurt the company.

Would you fire a Tea Party employee for the same?

Actually, unless you work under a collective bargaining agreement or PSA (personal service agreement), you can be fired for almost anything except those covered under Title VII since most if not all states are considered "Emplyment-At-Will" states.

The next issue would be terminating the employment of an employee who "calls out"; Unless you are a doctor and saw the patient the day in question, good luck in sustaining a termination. It's just not viable to terminate the employment of someone who "called out", since you'll spend a small fortune in attorney fees and wasted money.

The Democratic Party wants to totally destroy unions, except government unions, by importing millions of low skills immigrants to create a glut of people seeking jobs to keep wages as low as possible and for a supply of potential union busting scabs. Again other than government unions, the Democratic Party is the enemy of private sector unions and American blue collar workers. And working people know it. That's why Trump is president, not Clinton.

At will means you can leave the Company at at time with and with out notice and you can fired with and with out noticed unless its a protected class ie a man/woman, gay, white, Jewish etc etc etc. It also means you can't be forced to join a union to work. You can try and file a suit, not going to go anywhere as getting sick like the flu all the time isn't a protected class.

Require a doctor's note excusing them from work.

Yep, fire em. From time to time, people need to be reminded who works for whom, and the direction from which chit flows. Clue: it doesn't flow uphill.

Tbe only protection is the standard civil rights protections.

My wife was a service writer at a Pontiac dealership many yeara ago. We had had our third child and those "moon unit" Toyota vans had come out and we bought one. The little jerk son of the owner saw it the next day and called her into his office and told her he wasn't going to pay for it and fired her. Guess what he could. Guess what the other dealerships found out and she got three offers and took one that paid more.

If a worker can quit the employer without cause why shouldn't the employer be able to fire without cause?

A friend of mine called in sick once to attend a festival and he won a raffle that shelled out 3K, they naturally put his name and picture in the paper! When he return from days off an the sick day the supervisors met him at the shift bus and informed him he no longer worked there! Pretty sad the guy traded a day of drinking and 3k for a job that paid 72k a year :(

Who would have thunk supervisors read the papers!
