This was just one plank in the platform. The election was a referendum on leftism , their media lapdogs (no offense) and RINOS...
Democrats expected one form of rules by Garland and they trusted him to deliver what we can call... Democrat rulings. We know how Democrats rule on political matters in courts. Normal matters they rule regularly. But when it comes to politics, we know they would overturn Hobby Lobby and Citizens United. They telegraph their intentions. They may have seen the wall and figured the words on it were that Democrats would suffer years with little power in congress. Many of us right now see them as virtually with no power for at a minimum of 16 more years. So to get their politics done, they needed more than the 2 Obama picked, Make no mistake, when it comes to politics, Sotomayor and Kagan are in the Democrats camp. Obama wanted Garland to tip the scale. Naturally the republicans saw through that and kept him out. But Democrats can't stop Gorsuch. A good read is the history of his mother whom died of Cancer. She was extremely accomplished.
In order to get Trump's man confirmed, they need 9 Democratic Senators and all the Republicans to vote to confirm him. If not, the GOP will have to use the "nuclear option" to confirm him. That will change the way we have appointed judges since our inception. The GOPcheated President Obama out and f his choice, now the Dems can pull the same crap if they choose to.
Harry Reid (can you recall him?) changed the Senate rules on judges. Mitch can simply use his system. Problem solved. At the moment, the stellar Gorsuch should be on the SC. But what Democrat will step up and be honest? Right now I can't name one. nuclear option really is no option, it is how it has to be.
It's not my fault Dems dropped their stick and are having it used against them now. As usual, they don't have the ability to look beyond their noses in power grabs. Besides, this all started with Bork. So suck it up. Also, if they vote against him, they look even more stupid, since all of them have voted for him before. His last nomination resulted in not a single vote against him. Either way, they lose. Genius move by Trump. No matter which way Dems turn, they lose
How did the GOP "cheat" the lame duck Obama? Like this? Chuck Schumer in 2007: Senate Should Block Supreme Court Nominees for 18 Months WASHINGTON—"In a development that’s likely to cause fits for President Barack Obama, the Senate Democrats’ next leader, Charles Schumer, told an 2007 audience — on video — that he wanted to block any Supreme Court nominations for the last 18 months of President George W. Bush’s presidency." "Cheated Obama".....like that? http://www.breitbart.com/big-govern...nate-can-block-scotus-nominees-for-18-months/
I watched the whole thing. He came across like a programmed zombie. Every answer was obviously rehearsed (like a trial witness who goes through hours of mock testimony). He never answered any substantive question, and he derailed any attempt to get a read on how he would vote on a case like Roe. He is just playing a game to get confirmed. Once he gets in, it wouldn't surprise me if he ended up to the right of Clarence Thomas.
And another fine man that was ruthlessly smeared by Democrats that aren't worthy to shine the man's shoes. His "political lynching" speech is powerful stuff and a good watch. Dems are rayciss, obviously.
Don't forget , morals, integrity, and common sense . And so very diabolical! ( someone just reminded me of that perfect adjective)
The sad part is our money is spent on this partisan drubbing, attempt, all the while knowing he will be confirmed. I would have more respect for a Democrat on the committee to say "Although we have our reservations about your partisan lean you will be confirmed, we can only hope you enter this most sacred of appointments with an open mind and the rights of all Americans first and foremost, God speed" And then get onto a piece of Americas business where you might actually have some impact on our prosperity
Gorsuch is a political hack, and he got absolutely destroyed by limp wrist Franken on his past political record. His ruling on the Maddin case was hilariously inept and ridiculous. He had to invent new terminologies to try and disavow the Chevron ruling. He's a shoe in hack for the republican party, hilarious since the right has been railing against activist judges recently.
All true but he will be confirmed for one reason. If dems are successful at filibustering him they run into the chance of repubs changing the rule for SCOTUS nominees like Reid threatened when he thought dems would hold the slim majority in the Senate that they lost. They all know this so they will put on a show for the faithful but it is a nothingburger IMHO.
