    1. Eliminate the minimum wage for unskilled work. 2. Subsidize very low wage workers. 3. Subsidize the able and idle with a nutritionist designed Vegan diet.

Virtual full employment would be instantly realized. There is no job an American will not do for the freedom to buy a Big Mac and a cold beer. ;-)

What I find funny is that no leftist realizes that if their state pays less in federal funding they can choose how to spend their own money. You don't suppose the states will fund, oh I don't know, Meals On Wheels! No, couldn't be. Only the federal government can take care of the old and sick. What a world.

    He has many viable options:
    1. Take $50,000 out of his 401K
    2. Sell some stuff
    3. Duck out on the bill
I can relate. Especially to the last part.

On March 15 Space_Time posted a new thread:
    Michael Savage assaulted in restaurant
Conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage was attacked in a Bay area restaurant Tuesday night, and it sure seems there's a Trump connection.
We're told Savage was eating dinner at Servino Ristorante in Tiburon at around 8:30 PM, when a guy started mocking Savage's legal last name, screaming, "weener, weener." We're told the guy threw Savage to the ground, after allegedly shoving Savage's poodle, Teddy, out of the way.

In post #11 I quoted an article from the local San Francisco Chronicle that clearly stated the incident took place in the parking lot, that the allegations were from Savage's attorney, that the police were called and no one was arrested.
In the meantime the Trumpee press & blogs were having a field posting tings like...
    • Conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage was attacked Tuesday evening while eating dinner at a Bay Area restaurant.
    • ...who also kicked Savage's dog -- because liberalism is a mental disorder
    • No Surprise Michael Savage Was Assaulted For Supporting Trump ...
    • Conservative radio host and best selling author, Michael Savage was left bloodied and shaken after he was physically attacked at a San Francisco restaurant.
    • The attacker also kicked his 10 lb grey poodle, Teddy who is always with him.
The thread went on for 13 pages with many posters repeating the above falsehoods.

If I may paraphrase your above comments:

Republican Trump supporters are really disgusting people. The amount of lies they come up with is just unbelievable. They literally turn any news into a lie.

All of this information was easily available to anyone reporting on this story, or anyone commenting on it, which should have prevented the false claims about the incident from spreading in the first place. But why bother reporting facts when you can make up a story that will drive Trumpees into a feeding frenzy?

Lol. I think k it's adorable that people actually think this new legislation has been signed into law and already implemented.

Even more adorable that some are willing to call ev1 liars about it too.

like a basket of puppies. Dumb, but cute.

Read again. I said no such thing. Those who work for a market wage are free labor.
Those who are compelled by law to work for welfare are virtually slaves of the state. Serfs might be a more accurate description.

I have now seen more bullshit than a field of cattle..If capitalism wasn't so chaotic and dangerous I could agree, yet humans will make other humans work for nothing more than bubblegum change..

Thanks to the destructive policies and programs of the state many people are now worth less than bubblegum change on the free labor market. The minimum wage renders them unemployable.
Which is exactly what the minimum wage is designed to do - reduce the size and political influence of the working class.

The government does not impose the law to compel you to work.

when we actually have legislation on the president's desk to sign and he signs it it will become law. Then EVERYONE can say the new AHCA will do X or do Y.

Until then it it pure speculation (partisan hype) because we haven't seen the finished product.

Perhaps I just parachuted into the conversation and took something out of context, so note that i'm not trying to get into a pissing match.

I'm certainly compelled because I like to eat, in return I receive compensation from my employer and I use that to buy things like food and housing. Maybe i'm splitting hairs here but if an able bodied person is receiving compensation in the form of welfare, i'm just fine with the gov't asking for "work" <which is a loose definition based on what I've read, you can do other "stuff" that qualifies, such as in Maine's example.

Duly noted: not suggesting that i'm well versed with this subject at all, but in general I have zero issues with a compulsion to "work" in exchange for compensation/benefits if the person is not disabled. (and I do feel that a measurable amount of "disabled" persons are milking the system as well, I've seen it personally and it bugs the hell out of me)

Ty for the thoughtful substantive reply. Given the nature of the current welfare system workfare may be the best reform that is politically viable. But it would be better if the aid given to the able idle was humane but guaranteed to attract very few takers. For instance, a strict nutritionist designed healthy diet - we know very few Americans will choose that option unless they have to.

The current welfare system enriches the political donor class while blessing the idled poor with diabetes.

Generous aid for those who cannot work does not bother me at all.

The Federal contribution to Meals on Wheels constitutes 3.3% of the MOW budget. If half of the people gnashing their teeth over this sent $5 to Meals on Wheels they would end with a larger budget than before the cuts.

In fact, the program saw a 5000% increase in donations and a 500% increase in volunteers.

This is a good demonstration of the unintended evils of compulsory "charity"

You might want to take a look at Federal Farm subsidies and ask how much money Michelle Bachmann's family gets every year NOT to plant anything.

Those subsidies started under FDR. Should they be eliminated? Of course.

The best solution for the idled poor would be an end to the minimum wage for unskilled workers, and subsidies for low wage workers.

    1) generous aid for those who cannot work is what gov't benefit programs are designed for (IMO) so we agree 100%.

    2) no idea where you are going with the blessing the idled poor with diabetes, or the nutritionist designed diet....
are you suggesting that we restrict what food items can be purchased? (not that i'm against it but its a brick wall)
If you are suggesting restrictions on food purchases then liberals and the media will tear that idea to shreds, cries of racism and discrimination will be all over the place.

On the subject of gov't assistance:
If you are clearly unable to perform functional work for compensation then the gov't has and should continue to take care of them, at least to the point where they can live reasonably comfortable and have their basic needs provided for.

If you are able idle (I like that term), I'm very much a cold fish and have no problems with work for welfare and other requirements as well. I know Florida went crazy over the welfare drug testing thing but it sure as hell didn't bother me a single bit.

Most Federal Farm subsidies go to Republican land owners.. They won't kill that form of welfare.
