I have been trying to figure this out. Is it just the lack of integrity they suffer from? Is it a mental illness? Is there an answer?

    http://theweek.com/articles/687872/...defend-trumps-most-ridiculous-lies?yptr=yahoo

"In the past, presidents have told big lies mostly for one of two reasons. In the midst of scandal or failure, they told lies to protect themselves and deny that they had done wrong: I am not a crook, we did not trade arms for hostages, I did not have sexual relations with that woman. Or they lied to convince the public to go along with a policy initiative, whether a war or a tax cut or a new program, when the truth was insufficiently persuasive.

Unlike his predecessors, President Trump lies for any reason at all.

I imagine the sinking feeling his aides get when he blurts out another whopper. "Now I'm going to have to go out and defend this," they say with a sigh, then huddle together to arrive at the least laughable spin they can come up with, so they can rationalize the lie — which Trump will of course be unwilling to retreat from."

Bottom line is there is no real answer. It is just where your morals lie at, and if you are a true patriot:

"And that was the reason almost every Republican lined up behind Trump in the first place: They may have had their reservations about him, but he'd help them do all the things they'd been yearning to do for eight years. Yet now they can't escape the devil's bargain they made.

There are some Republicans more enthusiastic about Trump than others and some that are more sycophantic toward him. But sooner or later, almost all of them will wind up defending him, whether it's about particular lies he's told or scandals he's embroiled in. The stain of cooperating with Donald Trump will be on all of them, and it will never wear off."

He lies for no apparent reason...for no apparent benefit.

    He's nuts.

    A decent golfer...but nuts.

I can understand why some people voted for him...they simply loathed Hillary Clinton.

But now he has won...he is president. What possible reason can anyone have for defending this lying boor?

There is a reason for his lies - his inferiority complex, his need for approval, his shallow ego - that is often why he Tweets and attacks - look at Meryl Streep - he had praised her, but when she spoke up - without even mentioning his name - he attacked her.
I find his tweets to be the emotional equivalent of a catty high school cheerleader.

Well let's start with blm. A lefty platform, built on a lie, pushing objectively false narratives, calling for violence against white people and cops. And yet, lefties are ok with it.

Be honest here, and I have plenty more of examples.

The guy doesn't lie. He has no need to lie. One notes that the left, while calling Trump a liar, fail to list his "lies". Trump is doing the best that he knows how. He understands that lies get one nowhere.

Probably diehard birthers, which is really interesting being that Trump finally admitted that Obama was born in the USA when cornered. I suppose they figured he had no choice but to acquiesce at that point in order to make him look non-confrontational and less of a troll towards his predecessor. That being said, integrity is obviously not a virtue which is important to Trump fans and they love conspiracy nuts like themselves and he is a dyed-in-the wool conspiracy addicted lunatic.

Same reason the left supported lying Hillary....there was nothing better; and wasn't a politician and the right really didn't want a politician.

Every election that I have been aware of has come down to the lesser of 2 evils for most. This time around though we had to choose between the devil himself or his sister.......he won.

I can't figure out if you are being sarcastic, because there are lots of websites with a list of Trump's lies.

Here is one. And this list only goes back to the inauguration.

Trump is a proven pathological liar and a despicable human being...however he did win the Republican nomination and subsequently, he squeaked out a win in the electoral college so, he's their guy. They could have Ronald McDonald in the White House and they'd be okay with that......to a point. The point will come when Trump really crosses the line which, given his CV, is a certainty. It's just a matter of time until the stench gets really, really bad and mainstream Republicans back away.

Not a huge Trump supporter, but I find your post funny because, I seem to remember Obama lying almost every time he spoke. He was just a much better speaker than Trump, which made the lies sound more believable.

To quote the Art of the Deal, "You can't con people, at least not for long. You can create excitement, you can do wonderful promotion, and get all kinds of press, and you can throw a little hyperhole. But if you don't deliver the goods, people will eventually catch on."
Obviously Trump is not listening to his 1987 self.

People are still in the mode of "Give him a chance," or more commonly, "Wait and See." Trump got rid of people who actually were benefitting the White House, such as Sally Yates, who accurately warned Trump about Flynn. Republicans are so bombarded emotionally with trying to rid of Democratic control, they are making vital, and possibly fatal, mistakes.

I support Trump over the Democrat alternative for really only one reason: Trump wants to leave me alone. The Democrat Nanny state doesn't want to leave me alone.

The best way to explain his support is to compare it to how people complain how lawyers are aggressive, heartless, and dishonest. Those traits suddenly become a positive when you need one. His supporters are not bad people.

My estimation of Hillary Clinton was that she was a pathological liar and that she defaulted to lying. I thought that she lied even when telling the truth would benefit her.

So, not counting the third party candidates, we had two choices. The one with whom we agreed, or the one with whom we disagreed. Bottom line, right there.
