Yeah I knew something was up the second I heard the initial reports. There was zero reason to think Assad would do that, especially at this time.

I'm still not sure what the play was here. It either was ISIS trying to pull us in, or it was Putin giving trump an easy PR win, or maybe even testing Trump.

All I know is the official story is a load of crap, and I can't believe the way the media is both falling for it and basically fawning all over trump for being so "presidential" because he wasted like 25 million bucks launching missiles for a PR stunt.

As I posted in another thread...

They will pretend to be at odds. Putin badly wants an excuse to be out of Syria. Russia was stuck in Afghanistan for years and it broke them. Now being in Syria is a financial strain as Russian is being brought to its knees due to the sanctions. They will come to the negotiating table and Trump will give Crimea to Putin and possibly (likely) lift the sanctions. It will have all been a charade.

It serves multiple purposes. Makes Trump look like a leader (ha ha) as if it was not Putin pulling strings and it takes attention away from the scandals brewing.

But, nevertheless, Trump's image seems to have gotten a much-needed makeover???. . . . Could this have been Trump's PRIMARY objective in ordering the strike???

Trump will read from a script and I totally believe that a Trump porn tape exists, but KGB guy Putin has a lot more on Trump than that.

The scenarios they are depicting are about as believable as the theory that Melania and Barron are being held as hostage pending Trump's acquiescence to the neocon line. It could be true, though.

Let's see how many conspiracy theories we can come up with in this thread....

I have not given up on Trump yet.

What just happened was a logical outcome of Obama's policy and agreement with Russia and Syria, which was violated. It does not necessarily lead to your conclusion regarding allover policy, IMO.

It broke international law the last four times he did it. Your post is a classic example of trying to shoe horn fact into a preconcieved notion.

    But one that makes sense.
I don't know how to get at the truth in this.

I'm not speculating on where Syria got the weapons. Only that Russia providing them (especially when it's not that hard to make a chemical weapon) does not seem to provide Russia with any advantage. PARTICULARLY if those weapons can be authoritatively traced back to Russia. Assad would not be the first Middle Eastern dictator to turn this type of weapon on his people.

Rather, I'm looking at news reports of the result of the US attack and, given the number of missiles we used, it seems the damages were somewhat less than negligible.

I think this "response" from the US was more PR value than actual military value. Trump wanted to respond but people within his structure, people like McMaster and the NSC, counseled restraint.

    I hope not.

I really believe Trump wanted to make a "Yuge" response. I believe that response is in his nature. But, as large as the response was, from a military perspective its results were minimal.

I think, and I hope, forces within the Trump White House stayed his hand. That would be a good thing.

Given Trump's isolationist bent during the campaign I would suspect that he wanted to make no attack at all but McMaster and his type won the day obviously Bannon lost on this one. I can't imagine how the actual military effect could be less relevant

Cultists don't employ reason. That applies universally.

    From the link...
Thankfully, people are recognizing the deception and being very vocal and public about it. It's right out of a Rocky and Bullwinkle/Boris cartoon for goodness sake!. Contrived with a capital "C".

No, it really doesn't make sense. The gas attack provoked not merely a tactical response but has shifted US policy. Trump now wants to oust Assad whereas last week he didn't care.

To suggest Putin is jeopardizing a long term strategic goal to give Trump cover he doesn't really need just doesn't make sense.

It makes more sense that the DNC staged the attack expecting Trump to live up to his promise to ignore Syria so they could accuse Trump of being soft on Russia. Now they are shifting to Plan B accusing Russia of staging the attack to give Trump an opportunity to play tough.

I don't believe this either, btw.

I do think that at this point Trump and Putin are keeping their affairs completely separate to avoid even MINUTE suspicions of complicity.

Meanwhile, Syrian government continues airstrikes (without chemical weapons), while Trump, with sated ego, leaves to Mar-A-Lago to play golf.

The US and Trump are being pwned. The Sunni are being driven out and the Shia are replacing them. The more we do, the more power and control Russia and Iran have in Syria.

????????????????????????????? Trump spoke out warning Obama NOT to attack Syria; now he blames Obama for being weak.

Alzheimer's, maybe???. . . . You might have a touch of that, yourself.
