Soon my state legislature will pass laws here in California prohibiting state and local law enforcement authorities from cooperating with federal authorities in matters of immigration as we will undoubtedly become the nation's first "sanctuary state." This move, intended to "protect" illegal aliens from what California Senate President Kevin DeLeon calls the "Trump deportation machine." Well, first of all, Trump did not establish ICE or its predecessor the INS. All he has done is allowed them to do their jobs - something the last ten presidents have not allowed. And what is their job? To insure that individuals entering the country are doing so in compliance with the law... just like every other country on the planet does. And, secondarily, to locate, detain, and deport individuals who have not complied with the law... just like every other country on the planet does.

Why is America the only country that doesn't get to enforce its immigration laws in the eyes of people like Kevin DeLeon, LA mayor Eric Garcetti, and our beloved Governor Moonbeam? And why are they so interested in protecting people who have willfully and knowingly broken the law?

We are either a nation of laws or we are not. And a nation without laws is a chaotic one... and a nation without borders is no nation at all.

And I'd especially like to hear from people who support this idea of non enforcement of our immigration laws.

Why is the U.S. the only country not allowed to control its borders?

Why, why! I'll tell you why.

    1. The United States is comprised of racists and their influence must be abolished
    2. Nothing wrong with people leaving their cess pool of a country and bringing their cess pool with them. Adds to diversity don't you know
    3. It's only taxpayer money
    4. Voters we need more dependent voters

Certainly that's the cynical view, but I'm wondering if a supporter of uncontrolled immigration will step here and defend their position.

Because many liberals and progressives (and a lot of West Europeans) believe that U.S. power and wealth is built on exploiting other nations and because of that it is the duty of the United States to "give back" to the downtrodden of the world.

I'd be willing to compromise and open the borders if we were to not allow any assistance to them or their immediate descendents.

<Rule 2> Every nation on this planet has a passport system.

<Rule 2> This has NOTHING to do with helping anyone, because a continuous flow of the most desperate workers imaginable, is EXTREMELY harmful to wage growth. There is no logical excuse, for what appears to be a plan to keep people poor, via importing ever more poor people.

Political power and money. Always follow the money. The illegal aliens represent just one more victim identity group the Marxist Democrats can exploit for political power and for contributions.

    It's just that simple!

Immigration has *always* in the past been for growing the country. Immigrants populating unused areas of the country is a prime example.

We don't need immigrants to populate the Western frontier any longer. The immigrants we allow in today need to be able to grow the country in other ways, primarily through their skill sets, doctors, programmers, welders, etc.

We simply don't need a huge influx of illegal aliens driving wages down and taking jobs from Americans. If that sounds cruel then all I can say is too bad. Life isn't always fair.

<Reply to Deleted> I would say the immigration of the most ambitious out of Latin America harms that country more than ours.

But we don't get the most ambitious via illegal immigration; we get those via legal immigration. What we get via illegal immigration is abject poor, who are not able to support themselves. We take a million legal immigrants a year. That ought to be enough.

But its not just the liberals who created this problem. In fact, remember it was Ronald Reagan who signed the IRCA into law in 1986 which gave amnesty to the then three million illegals and provided an aggressive enforcement package. The latter was promptly forgotten by Reagan and all his successors. Until now, of course...

I agree we get the abject poor. My argument is counter to the Dems only argument. They say that illegal immigrants come here an thrive with the opportunity. I say that more people could actually be helped if those ambitious folks stayed in their home country and improved the conditions there.

I'm actually for a quazi open border system with a completely voluntary charity safety net privately ran. Turn the magnet off, and you will not get those that will starve.

But remember it was Reagan who signed the first amnesty bill into law in 1986... and then promptly ignored the enforcement provisions therein.

They are already not legally able to access public benefits - they come here for the under-the-table work, by and large. So why let them in in the first place? And if they come here and can't survive? Will they go home? Will they turn to crime?

You forget, the US isn't the only country: Israel doesn't even have the right to defend it's national sovereignty, let alone it's borders, according to liberals.

Lots of countries don't fully control their borders. EU countries are required to have open borders with each other.

Why should the US be the ONLY open border country in the world? If we let everyone come legally, we would get 2 billion immigrants, and we would soon be a third world nation.

    Won't work.

As someone once pointed out, accurately.

Mexico will never be a better place to live than the United States.

We've been over this 1,000 times. Here go again ...

In 1986, Reagan made a deal with the Dems in Congress. Reagan allowed amnesty for 3 million illegals in exchange for the Democrats sealing the border and getting tough on future immigration. Reagan signed the amnesty bill, then the Democrats welched on their promises. Reagan got snookered by the evil and lying Dems.

And now we have 12 million illegals. Go figure.

Easy to rule a 3rd world nation like dictators. Liberal leaders are cool with it.
