    They think EVERYONE is armed.

Are you claiming their fear is race based?

Replace "guns" with "thugs" and we can agree.

I once lived in a city which was crawling with thugs. Chicago x 10. In that city, the thugs didn't have guns, they had dinky knives or nothing at all. The cops had flipping machine guns. The cops were not afraid. Subsequently, we were not afraid of the cops. It's psych 101.

It's not impractical by any stretch of the imagination. A simple Bluetooth recording system in the car and small hard drive on the cop. I imagine the whole set up wouild be about the size and weight of a flip phone.

As for privacy concerns, a simple law or procedure that only allows use of the video for a legal encounters or to review the officers daily activity would handle all of that.

But they're afraid of eVErYONE...and treat everyone as if they are armed.

Was this lady a thug? Did she look like a thug?

    No?

And there are cameras recording our daily lives all over the place already. That concern is lost...

Something tells me that if the races had been reversed, the OP would be calling the cop a hero and the woman a terrorist.

I can't believe I am saying this, but I agree with Leah. The thousands of static cameras and CCTV systems police have access to is really no different.

And what, pray tell, is that something?

And as a followup, something tells me if the races were reversed, Minneapolis would still be burning.

Was this city in the United States? I mean I've been to Bogota, where the cops DO carry machine guns, but I've never seen that in the U.S..

I have to admit I am not that familiar with the technology. I'm only going on what I've read which is that the storage requirements are too great to run it nonstop over the course of a shift. I'm not saying it's impossible - but as I said I understand it to be impractical.

Yeah, you might want to think that. Sorry, but I really don't want agents of the government recording us as we go about our daily business. That's just a ****hair away from Big Brother.

I've had plenty of interaction with police officers - I have a bit of a lead foot. I can guarantee you the cops are not afriad of me - and I'm even one of those dreaded gun owners. I've never been shot by the police... Here in gang-infested Los Angeles. There is one reason for that...

Being startled by a female while in your cruiser is no excuse for firing through a door. I think Betsy' experiment has proven to be a disaster.

Those are private security cameras or cameras posted in government buildings like courthouses, police stations, etc.. There is quite a difference between those stationary cameras and agents of the government walking around filming everything.

No. In this case I would be wrong. When an innocent person is shot by the police, their race is inconsequential.

Except they need a warrant and a valid reason to commandeer and view the footage.

It would be around 20g of memory for every 8 hour shift. Assuming one officer in a car at a time, a 2 TB drive should be able to record 24/7 body camera footage for 30 days and would fit in a case the size and thickness of a grilled cheese sandwich.

For reference, a 2TB external hard drive is $70 at Wal-Mart.

But they already have that capacity. Anywhere you see a CCTV, a red light camera, a license plate detector, or just turning on your cell phone.

Or they can just ask the owner. 99% of the time they won't need a warrant.

Funny story about Smart Tv's. An acquaintance got a $3000 cable bill a couple years ago because he shared his HBOgo log in for like 50 people and somehow it got flagged and caught.

That's too funny. I once shared a paid MMO account. I was pissed when my account was permanently locked as punishment. I can't imagine a $3000 bill. :spin:
