I guess you'd prefer they keep such quotes from the city mayor hush-hush, so we can all speculate and come up with our own theories that are never wrong, only "covered up."
"This is not act of terrorism. This is not a hate crime. It's a disgruntled employee who has come on the scene of his employment," Mayor John Tecklenburg told reporters Thursday. CNN was reporting on his words. So did all of the other networks.
So what, news sources should speculate rather than quote what actual civil leaders and people on the scene are saying? I don't understand what you want from journalism, other than to feed your pre-canned narrative.
Chet Cannonā€¸Verified account @Chet_Cannon Took all of 5 seconds for leftists to decide #Charleston shooter was white conservative But wait... A) Shooter is black B) What are facts? 11:05 AM - 24 Aug 2017
Well, it turns out he was a black guy. CNN follows its stylebook here, which demands that all white perps be identified as such, and that nonwhite perps not be described in any detail. Remember, the media stopped reporting on crime almost altogether -- and carefully omitting racial attributes of minority perps where it was forced to report on it -- when minority activists objected, arguing -- plausibly -- that showing daily a parade of minority criminals would influence the public that minorities are criminals. That's plausible. I'm not sure I can agree that the trade-off -- embargoing news -- is worth it, but the rational is plausible. In which case I have to ask: Why does the media make sure that all white perps involved in crimes, especially racial or political ones, are relentlessly reported on and their whiteness made central to the story? Does the media not think the same rule applies, that is, constantly featuring criminals of a certain race will poison public opinion against that race? Or do they merely approve of poisoning public opinion against the One True Evil Race? http://ace.mu.nu/archives/371277.php
That's right. If one of the people in the restaurant was armed there wouldn't be a hostage situation.
You're an NRA member, aren't you? Twists like this is why sensible gun control will never get passed.
Ah. Attacking me instead of addressing the point I made I see. So lets say some idiot wanders in with a gun in the restaurant you're in. What do you do? You call someone with guns, then hope the lunatic doesn't kill you, then hope the cops don't kill you when they storm the place. Let's say some idiot wanders in with a gun in the restaurant I'm in. What do I do? I don't have to call anyone, I can take care of the problem myself then finish my lunch.
It's the threat that comes with a civilian being in the crossfire. It's a recipe for disaster for every square foot of America to be open carry, let alone every American citizen who started getting into a scuffle would shoot each other.
