Yet that is what they are showing. Our flag and national anthem do not represent police or any supposed injustices. Those symbols represent our country. Police are a small fraction of the country. Also, there can never be universal fairness. If someone wants to speak against some wrong, they are better served to sharpen their focus.

By protesting the symbols of the country, they are saying that the whole of the country is bad. There's no getting around it.

You're calling me 'prog'? Wow, great way to start a respectful exchange of ideas. But to your point -
yes, blacks killing blacks is clearly an issue. But blacks killing blacks is different from police killing blacks because of the power differential (abuse of power). So while, yes, he could talk about the inner cities, it's not the same issue.

I've explained above why I don't think it's hypocrisy but I can see why you might think it is. I think the abuse of power aspect is the crucial bit of it.

The US national anthem is a racist screed and it sounds like ass although it suits the afraid, superstitious, ignorant 3rd world mentality which pervades many an American mind.

That's a pretty big blanket statement considering players have openly stated exactly why they are protesting.

I'm sure the guy who gets clipped by the thug rat really appreciates the lack of a "power imbalance."

OK I take your point, but police abuse of power is another thing again. Police are held to a higher standard, and rightly so.

I did not call anybody names, but I do describe their experiences. So don't take it personally.
I am not a Democrat, and there are indeed many very nice Americans who are uneducated and uninformed. Trump's base, for example. I am not knocking them by any means. Simply an observation.

    You're not a progressive?

Huh. I could have sworn it results in the same dead.

Except that we have rule of law to allow juries of peers to determine guilt - and they do.

Of course they do. WTF do you think the point of kneeling instead of pledging is?

I'm going to ask you and every other lefty two questions:

    1. Would you pick up a fallen US Flag in battle?

    2. What is the purpose of reciting the Pledge in the company of thousands of your countrymen?

Is Trump's base the same type who listen to the Rush Limbaugh show, for instance?

And how, exactly do you prove you're a patriot, given the limiting circumstances of this forum?

The 14th Amendment is the most misinterpreted amendment in the Constitution.

And how the 14th Amendment was ratified was unconstitutional.

The authors of the 14th Amendment didn't use Common Law but Natural Law and used Vattel's.

The Jim Crow laws...it's a Democrat Party thing, take it up with Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and the corrupt DNC. The Democrats inherited the legacies of the Jim Crow laws.

Today the Steelers won't even come out of the locker room until after the national anthem. Cowards.

Just another reason to hate Pittsburgh.

Alinsky wrote the Machiavellian playbook on how to advance socialism. The tactics and goal are disgusting.

How so? Please debunk my assessment.

    I stand by my post.

It doesn't matter what message they claim to be sending. What counts is the message actually being sent.

If their intended message is more focused than the generality of the entire country, their symbolism should be more focused than ones representing the entire country.

I've no idea. But so what? You seem to intend the word as an insult; a charming way to start. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

My main political conviction is that everything gets worse when people refuse to acknowledge there could be another valid point of view. My basic instincts are probably left of centre. But if you look at what I post here, I think you'll find it's normally addressing people being blinkered in their thinking.

So do deaths caused by cars. Should he have mentioned those too?

I don't see how that addresses the point.

No, I don't think so. But listening to him is certainly no way to become informed. I used to listen to Limbaugh, but I came to realize what an ass he is.

Well people obviously have taken different messages from this, so who arbitrates what the 'real' message is?
