You what they say, you have to hit rock bottom before the only place to go is up. California is racing towards the bottom.

My home has an extensive, and I must say incredibly impressive drainage system. 1,200 feet of drain lines, 3 sump pumps, and built to pump 11,000 cubic feet of water off my property an hour, which unless I really ****ed my calculations is the historically high rainfall in my area.

The fact that your home does not have such a remarkable drainage system doesn't mean that you are a poor homeowner. It means that you don't live on top of a spring, and that your lot doesn't grade to your house.

My grandfather set the type for 10,000 editions of the Los Angeles Times. My father surveyed every single major public works project in the City of Los Angeles.

I worked at a pharmaceutical plant in Compton while I was going to college. I was 23, and a still the mountain of a man that US Marines were supposed to be. This 18 or 19 year old black kid, at least a foot shorter than me, would come up every night while I was studying during our lunch break. He'd timidly ask me to "say something white".

Took me quite a while to figure out that he was asking me to tell him something about physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, history, etc. You know, the things that a liberal, progressive government ****ing robs from poor minorities.

The Navy has radio ads by me promoting science, technology, engineering and math. They're not interested in people with degrees in African or gender studies.

How do they rob from poor minorities? Are those things not taught? How'd you learn them?

Those with a STEM degree have a greater chance of employment than those who don't. That applies even if the employment isn't related to their degree.

    https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2014/cb14-130.html
"STEM graduates have relatively low unemployment, however these graduates are not necessarily employed in STEM occupations," said Liana Christin Landivar, a sociologist in the Census Bureau's Industry and Occupation Statistics Branch."

Well, for starters I grew up in an upper class, white community that defiantly enforced segregation until 1972, and then continued enforcing discriminatory policies up until 2010 when the Federal government took over our police department when a white police officer was murdered, and all the evidence magically disappeared, right before he was set to take the stand on behalf of the FBI against the department.

Education is not equal in America.

Just one more reason why jobs are moved to other countries and people from other countries have to be brought here via H1B visas.

You are 100% correct that education opportunities are unequal. Therefore, let's support Trump's school voucher program for disadvantaged children which will allow them to attend private schools.

Even 'bad schools' with 'bad teachers' produce kids who excel academically. Therefore the school and the teachers are not the problem .. the students are.

My opinion is that there are no bad schools or bad teachers, there are only bad demographics (parents and kids who don't care about education).

I'm upset, and I'm not even American - much less Californican. All attempts to further dumb down the western education model are to be deplored.

PS: I've taken some damned difficult academic tests, thanks.

Yes, it is. In the public system, it's all about the same. What differs, is parental attitudes to education.

I did. The CAHSEE was a flipping joke, wasn't even remotely challenging. Maybe if they made the test harder it would drive kids to work harder in school, but nope, they eliminated it. So much for educating the populace.

Once again I notice California has stopped talk of secession as they go hat in hand to the other United States.

So after decades of people screaming bloody murder about NCLB, because it proved beyond a doubt that minority students were systematically failed, you really want to make that argument?

You are correct that parent involvement dramatically improves educational outcomes, but that's an unequal solution.

I think continuous assessment on the basis of mastery of subject is superior to taking exams.
