Well I did and I'm glad for it. I can say that back in the 60s when I was born it was unusual but it was unusual for anybody of any race not to be brought up with religion. But my parents were both academics and saw through the power of organized religion as a method of control. We had books on every religion under the sun but I wasn't told I had to believe in one or else. I did toy with Hare Krishna in the late 1970s. I thought the Bhagavad Gita was an interesting religious text. There's actually quite a lot of black ISKON members, especially musicians. I thought the clothes were cool too but at the end of the day, I didn't really believe in any of it so I just drifted away.

Actually, it worked out great because where they got shunned by the community for not being believers they just used their talents and worked their way out. They lived their lives free of the shackles of racial expectation just like more and more people are doing today.

Per the UN definition there are several different situations that do not involve killing yet still count as genocide. If you disagree with them feel free to get in contact. I'm sure they'll issue a speedy correction.
