(Reuters) - Haitian immigrants on Tuesday decried a U.S. decision to end a program that granted 59,000 Haitians temporary visas after the 2010 earthquake, saying they would be sent back to a country that has yet to recover from that disaster and others since.

The United States offered Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, to Haitians after the January 2010 earthquake killed some 300,000 people and devastated a country that has long been the poorest in the Americas.

The administration of former President Barack Obama extended the program several times, finding that conditions in Haiti were too dire to send the beneficiaries home. President Donald Trump's administration, after previously granting a six-month extension, announced on Monday that it would end TPS for Haiti in July 2019.

Any Haitian who cannot obtain another kind of U.S. visa will be subject to deportation back to the Caribbean nation, where some earthquake victims are still homeless and the country is wobbling from Hurricane Matthew, a cholera outbreak and political instability. I have mixed feelings on this because I believe in deporting immigrants and refugees. But as them being black. I don’t know if I agree with it. I think it’s interesting Hillary basically screwed over Hatia and now trump is deporting almost 60 k people back. Thoughts UPF?

It was temporary. 7 years is long enough.

Do you know literally anything about Haiti? It's run by a horrifying kleptocracy that sucked up all the resources meant to recover from the disaster and put basically nothing into recovery. The place has barely recovered at all.

Like, that's a gobsmackingly ignorant thing to say and even approaching it disqualifies you from being taken seriously on this topic

I'm not offering an opinion on Haiti but I have a question or questions. Im just guessing but I'll wager that there about one billion humans on this earth living in the same or worse conditions than Haiti. Should we "save" them all? Can we save them all?

The larger question to your moral play, are we doing greater harm by helping?

Liberals simply don't or won't understand this. This was a 'temporary' status based upon a natural disaster many years ago. The fact that Haiti has turned itself back into a hell hole is not our concern.........we can't take in all the impoverished people in the world. Before the black Haitians killed off all the White folks Haiti was the most prosperous colony in the Western Hemishere. Before the Whites were beaten, raped, murdered and run out of Zimbabwe it was the 'breadbasket' of Southern Africa........see a trend there?

We can't undertake the great work of solving the world's problems ourselves, but we're obligated not to abandon it either.

And I can't see how accepting migrants from a devastated nation is going to harm anything.

Well to be fair when you come here without speaking well and don’t have any skills it can lead to crime. Google Zoe Pound. I’ve known some Zoe Pound members and they are very dangerous.

Since theyre mostly corrupt why the **** would we give money to the leaders to enrich themselves while the majority of the people get screwed? How about we can’t trust you with the money so, sorry, no free handouts for you. Or how about we execute the leaders if we found out they stole from us?

For those who have found work and have become a contributing member of society, I would say their stay should be extended. The rest need to go.

Yeah, that's because America is a hellish abyss where ruthless crime is pretty much the only guaranteed way to find financial comfort when you have absolutely no advantages or assets.

Brother, what did I just say to you? We're helping out our neighbor. Let's finish helping out our neighbor and then worry about helping out a more distant neighbor.

This is what colonial style empirical powers do nowadays, then they blame those they have victimized. America is now doing that to americans as well as the power structure extracts and concentrates societal wealth and resources at home as they have forever abroad.

We have a business solution for that issue now; privatized corporate for profit prisons with stocks traded on Wall Street and convict labor leasing. The power structure can turn $40-50K on human beings per head, per year. Whites think they will be spared.

Ouch. So we keep the ones that have proved productive, perhaps learned a trade or a profession, and send back the unproductive. That's no help to Haiti, it denies her of productive workforce members and also burdens her with the unproductive. These two things offset, Haiti needs the productive.

The idea was to aid Haiti right? We need to rethink our refugee program. Yes bring those in extremis here, train them in the skills needed in the effected home country, then send them home. Post earthquake builders and construction tradesmen are needed, as might be healthcare workers. Post or continuing revolution some "freedom fighters" might be needed, train them.

The idea that refugees come and stay seems at odd to the stability of the originating country.

    Your thoughts?

When are you taking any on and when does HRC hand out those billions she kept for herself?

On that note the US needs to stop being the worlds toilet. Unless you’re into overpopulation and decreasing your quality of life.

How long do you want to keep "helping out our neighbor"? That earthquake hit seven years ago. If they haven't improved their lives or their country by now, they're not going to, and that is 100% on them.

Didn't the Clinton foundation pumped 10's of millions of dollars into the Haiti Relief Effort?

    Multiple choice question:

    1. You invited a Haitian family to live in your house in 2010 and they are still with you
    2. You send regular substantial financial contributions to Haiti to help its people while it recovers
    3. All of the above
    4. None of the above
    5. You spew moralistic sanctimonious nonsense on the internet and are in awe of your own goodness and self-righteousness.

    And whose fault is that?

When will liberals stop making excuses for the failings of black run countries?

How about Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras......they are our neighbors.......do they all get to come here too? Plenty of room at your house right? And you can feed them and pay for their
    Medical care as well, right?
