According to a poll conducted by The Economist and YouGov in February 2018, twenty-one percent of Americans favored repeal of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. Sixty percent opposed repeal. With the international publicity given to the United States problem with gun violence during March, a poll taken today might yield different results.

Thirty-nine percent of Democrats, eight percent of Republicans, and sixteen percent of independents favored repeal. Broken down by ethnic group, nineteen percent of whites favored repeal. Unsurprisingly, support for repeal among Blacks and Hispanics was much higher, thirty percent and twenty-seven percent respectively. These are the two groups who pay the highest price in human lives for the consequences of the Second Amendment.

When it comes to modifying the Second Amendment to reduce the toll that it takes in human lives, more people are in favor: forty-six percent of the population including seventy-six percent of Democrats, twenty-six percent of Republicans, and thirty-eight percent of independents.

My question is, why are there so many people who are NOT opposed to repealing or at least watering down the Second Amendment? The Second Amendment has caused the United States to have by far the highest murder rate in the Western World, several times the rate in Western Europe or in the advanced, democratic countries of Asia. Despite the amoral NRA's stupid slogan, guns do indeed kill people.

Three things could be done to bring life expectancy in the United States up to that of other advanced countries: 1) provide universal health care, 2) take meaningful steps to reduce drug abuse among white, working-class males, and 3) repeal the Second Amendment.

Let's hope that attitudes are changing and more people will value human life higher than their "right" to own the means to kill their fellow Americans.

It takes 13 states to block an amendment.
AK MT ID UT AZ NM ND SD OK NE AR WY KS
These state contain about 7% of the US population.

The vast majority have it correct. There's no drug abuse among the non white? When ever guns are taken away, violent crime rises.

It would take much more government mind control to successfully mess with the bill of rights.

Take away the Second Amendment and people would suddenly have to justify their lust for guns in a reasonable and convincing manner, instead of just pointing at that amendment and crying "it's a right!"

The fact that a large percentage of the United States population cannot refrain from shooting each other should have no bearing on my right to own guns.

It's a "right" insofar as it pertains to a Well Regulated Militia

Passing an Amendment is an almost impossible hurdle. We never did pass Amendments for Women's Rights or Child Labor in spite of their incredible popularity

What we need are Justices with sane literal interpretations of an Amendment which is in actuality very simple and clear

Ah - you admit you are (somehow) ignorant of the fact your statement is false.
    Well, now you know.

21 percent, huh? Well, one out of ten people, according to some military studies on IQs are 83 and below in scores. So that accounts for 10 percent. SO, that leaves 11 percent who are just delusional. Looks like most of the nation has better sense?

OP, with freedom always comes abuse. They go hand in hand. I vote to keep freedom.

Under your guidelines OP, we would still be part of England.

    No Thanks!

Justify? It's called self defense. It is a right. That's exactly what the 2ndA is - a right. You are correct. Give this man a cigar.

In 2008, the supreme court decided the District of Columbia v Heller, 5-4 , overturning a handgun ban in the city. The conservative justice Antonin Scalia wrote the opinion in narrow but unprecedented terms: for the first time in the country’s history, the supreme court explicitly affirmed an individual’s right to keep a weapon at home for self-defense.

The older I get and the more violent Americans become, I think I will keep my weapons. If you give your bullshit that some perpetrator is going to take my weapon away from me you are sadly mistaken.

Actually you listen to too much Fox and right wing radio.

In fact America is generally safer (in terms of crime rates) than it has ever been.

And what you note above is the opinion of one dishonest right wing Justice...Scalia...

Consequences of the Second Amendment? What tripe! Perhaps they're suffering has more to do with the nearly 1.4 million active gang members strewn across 33,000 gangs in the US?

What do the following items have in common? Knives, Hammers, Rocks, Guns..........Hint: they all require a single ingredient to do anything at all.
