The US Labor Department notes that the record for working (and job seekers) is set at all ages in the category "55 years and older".

It's funny that at the age of 30, the proportion of non-working at the minimum level for half a century. Many of the "meat generation" (who in the future are expected only internal and external carnage) prefer not to work, but live in a "basement with their parents", play a computer, prick themselves drugs and other analogues of flight from reality.

However ... in Japan, for example, a record number of old people are in prison, where they often deliberately sit down (committing a simple crime, such as stealing rice in the store), in search of heating and food. https://www.sovereignman.com/trends...prisons-are-full-of-80-year-old-felons-23163/

The society has only two ways of development
    1. This is socialism, as the first phase of communist society, and the general prosperity
    2. It is several hundred families having all and billions of beggars. As well as the future is shown in Hollywood movies. For example, "Mad Max" or "Oblivion"

What do you think about it?

I wonder if those old workers are doing so because they want to, or because they must?

If true and accurate, this is rather a sign of the times, a sign of the sad state of today's society and the notion/myth of an advanced society.

Isn't the 'choices' you arrived at along the lines of "You can either cease beating your wife . . . or not"? Nobody proposing a solution set along your lines ever seems inclined to see how much if any actual wife beating is occurring in the first place.

My boss is 82 years old and works six days a week because he wants to. Go figure.

So in 2006 things were ok, then the economy took a **** and the elderly lost everything, now they have to work themselves literally to death.

Seems like they have a Republican President to thank for that, but the truth is nobody ****ing cares about them. Not democrats or republicans. These people need help. They bought into the American dream, and the American investment economy and it failed them miserably and nobody cares at all. No finger will lift to help them.

Instead they are only noticed as a means of taking a **** on one party or another on these forums.

Common sense says that not every struggling oldster is poor for the same reason

A few may have lost their retirement savings through no fault of their own while others did not save for retirement at all

Maybe your boss likes to yell at his slaves. Therefore, he gets pleasure from work. But I do not think that old people enjoy driving trucks or grazing pigs, as written in the article.
I also do not think that the Japanese old men want to go to jail for pleasure. (reference to the source is in the article)

As people in the US live longer, they retire later, or work past retirement age.
I’m in accounting and finance, I don’t need to drive semi trucks or work in farms. Everyone who knows me and is at or close to retirement age tell me that they don’t think I’ll ever truly retire, which I kind of agree with. I doubt I’ll work 80 hours per week, but I can see myself as a consultant working as long as my brain lets me. It’s better than staying home all day and waiting for your death.
Many semi-retired people I know say the same thing - staying home when you are retired is boring. You can travel for a few months, but eventually you’ll find yourself staying at home waiting for your death. So, why not do some work, maybe even simple work, like packing groceries, or even working as a store greeter?
Russians will never understand because in Russia retirement is like a condemnation to living the remainder of your life in extreme poverty where you are unable to do anything even if you want to.

I think that this is an economic reason. Old people simply can not survive without work.
For example. Chinese investments in the US:
    2016 - $ 46 billion
    2017 - $ 29 billion
    2018 (Jan-May) - $ 1.8 billion
    No comments.
The Russians got rid of half of the American treasure. There are other signs of economic degradation.
But this happens not only in the US. It happens all over the world. The exploitation of the working man occurs everywhere. For example, in Austria, the Prime Minister wants to do a 12-hour working day. I think this is so that the labor force becomes cheap - so people are ready to work for food. To make the rich become even richer, and the poor were even poorer. And this happens at the state level. As Lenin said - the State is an instrument of violence of the ruling class. Now all over the world, the ruling class - is an oligarchy .. (maybe only with the exception of China)

For every reason you can think of. Many simply don't want to quit working because they enjoy it. One wonders that they enjoy such strong vigor without cradle to grave socialized medicine!

Chinese investment, even at a high of $46B, according to your numbers, is a drop in a sea when compared to the size of the US economy - $19T.

Really? :roflol::roflol::roflol: Japanese old people do not know your socio-economic theory. And so they happily go to jail. (referenced in the article) Apparently from boredom.

Actually, I remember watching a video about Japanese old women doing petty crimes to go to jail, and some of them literally said that they did it because they had no one to talk to - kids are busy with work and their own lives, many friends already died and so on.
Some did say they did it for economic reasons, but not all.

And some older folk buy an RV and are home wherever they happen to be, and the road still beckons.

It's a free country, older folk can live in any way they want and can afford.

    It's a great country.

The US economy is dog hairdressers and financial bubbles. And it's not about the size of the economy. The thing is that Chinese and Russian investors are leaving the American economy. If the United States does without foreign investment, I will be happy. Because the collapse in the US is not needed. Although the Japanese and Europeans (loyal vassals of the United States) are also ready to reduce their investments in the American economy. I heard, even Canada and Mexico are talking about the possibility of such an option

    Agree!
My main point to Russian troll is that having a part time job when you are old gives you a purpose in life - you wake up in the morning and there is something you have to do, instead of just watching TV or sit on a porch all day waiting for evening and another day. Traveling gets old eventually. I’d probably have an RV too, but I can’t see myself traveling non-stop, it gets old too.

Dog groomer is a very good skill to have here, pays quite well with no college required in most states, and is learned by informal apprenticeship. But you have to be born to it -- dogs know if you don't really like them.

I’ll tell you a secret - the size DOES matter.
Keep repeating your mantra, you are the only one who believes it.

My father is 83 and he still works full time. He doesn't have to work because he's well off ($$$), but he wants to work because he's seen so many people waste away and die when they retire. My grandfather worked until he was 74. Then he retired and he died soon after that.

Some people want to stay active.

Have you seen the movie "Good, Bad, Evil"? Remember in the movie was the phrase - "The bigger the closet, the louder it falls"?
