Michael Avenatti Arrested for Felony Domestic Violence

#metoo started as a response to Weinstein and his enablers who aided and abetted his (at best) sleazy and (at worst) rapist behavior and could have become a necessary corrective needed in society today. However, people on the left and most certainly the press seized the opportunity to use it as a political weapon when it should have been apolitical, and it morphed into #believeher which then went over the line into an attack on due process itself. There's a distinction here.

As is usually the case, these kinds of things tend to end when it backfires onto the very people using it for their own ends. I rather doubt Avernetti currently wishes to live under the very standards he set for Trump. What did Arthur Miller say? “An era can be considered over when its basic illusions have been exhausted.” Well, looks like the #metoo and #believeher era is at an end because people like Avernetti and others hijacked it for their own political ends and the supposed White Knights spearheading the charge against this abhorrent behavior turned out to be no better and maybe worse than the people they were going after. The illusion has been revealed.

 

The #MeToo movement isn't over, but excesses and hypocrisy by some of its advocates are a serious setback. The promotion of evidently false accusations against Kavanaugh highlighted the most serious flaw of this "movement"; the presumption all claims of sexual assault must be true.

No doubt women are subject to sexual harassment and assault at work, and they shouldn't be, but not every claim they make should be accepted without question, particularly not when a lot of time has run since the alleged incident.

In the Avennati case the victim made her claim immediately, she had evidently just been struck about the face.

The 'Hollywood scenario' differs as apparently aspiring stars literally compete for roles on the "casting couch" so they may be unable to denounce their abuse without jeopardizing their jobs. One supposes the aspiring stars secure a few roles on that casting couch before they gain the recognition needed so this is no longer necessary and then would be reluctant to acknowledge their fame and fortune was gained that way.

 

They try to fill their empty lives with hate and rage.

The topic is Avenatti's arrest for battering a woman. The motive for a crime is always relevant. In this case probably LW rage and hate is the most likely explanation.

So -- continuing to act like the standard Dem Party leader-type -- she went public and sued for having been convinced to agree to sign a legal and legally binding agreement for money in the first place . . . just like a standard Dem Party politician would do.
