One of the last old guard Repubs has past. I didn't agree with him on a number of issues but I have nothing but respect for the man. He understood what service to and sacrifice for his country truly meant. I don't think anyone ever had cause to question that everything he did was done because he felt in was in the country's best interest. In that regard, the juxtaposition between him and the Orange Fraud could not be more stark.
Like you I disagreed with him on some issues. But never doubted his integrity and honesty,it's a shame he's probably the last Republican President that one could say that about.
Integrity. I think that sums it up best. Folks of his generation, like my parents, they were much more selfless than people today. Some of his political positions reflected that, as did those of the GOP. Those days ended with the radicalization of the party starting in the 80's. The rise of right wing talk radio and hacks like Newt Gingrich resulting in a more divisive rhetoric and the demise of civil public discourse.
Like your post in general but I had to make just one change. One of the last old guard Repubs has past. I didn't agree with him on a number of issues but I have nothing but respect for the man. He understood what service to and sacrifice for his country truly meant. I don't think anyone ever had cause to question that everything he did was done because he felt in was in the country's best interest. In that regard, the juxtaposition between him and the MULATTO Fraud could not be more stark.
He was only CIA director because the agency after the scandals and controversies needed his reputation for integrity.
Why does MSNBC even bother. They are supposedly doing a tribute to George HW Bush, but a large portion of the time is devoted to comparing Trump very unfavorably to Bush.
Before I clicked on the link to this thread by Lee I knew Trump would be a part of the topic. Hooray for Lee! Stay true to your form.
Bush was a typical East Coast Liberal. Devoid of any true Conservative values. Now, as to the supposed "toxic right wing radio"? Uhh excuse me but up until Reagan RIGHTFULLY killed the (un)Fairness Doctrine who had the monopoly on the media again?
GHW was a great patriot. One more veto would have made him a great 2 term President. Unfortunately he succumbed to the Democrats' treasonous attack on the economy after vetoing the first attack. GW made the same mistake after Pelosi held Veterans and Katrina victims hostage for the minimum wage increase that crushed the economy in 2007, 2008, and 2009. Of course, that came after former HUD Secretary Cuomo loaded up the mortgage inventory with minimum wage earners. I've already heard the fateful words, "We need Affordable Housing" from Democrats. Thankfully, they don't have the power to corrupt the mortgage market again ,,, but watch for the first bill out of the box to be a $15 minimum wage. They may be able to brow beat Republicans into signing on to their plan to kill the economy with a Republican in the White House for the 3rd time in 30 years. Fraud? Did your mirror break?
You've apparently forgotten what the Fairness Doctrine required. Not only that, but what the GOP stood for before it was radicalized. The repeal of the FD is arguably responsible for how a lying con man like Don became the prez, both being great disservices to the nation.
The repeal of the Fairness Doctrine had nothing to do with anything. Trump won without CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, and ABC having to display balance. As it was applied to media that was in its infancy, the FD should probably be applied to Social Media and Search Engine monopolies. I no longer bother with Social Media, so Phishbook can't have their advertisers send me emails in my daughter's name ,,, and I don't want to be responsible for giving Google a dime, so I use DuckDuckGo.com --- same functionality without being swept to radical leftist websites.
He wasn't perfect but let us bury President Bush with the impressive goals he achieved in his long life and not turn his death political. RIP Mr. Bush.
Amazing what a sad road TDS can lead someone on a thread about the loss of any of our presidents. Give it a rest Lee you are only peeing down your own leg and diminish this entire thread.
George H.W. Bush was the last qualified President. When elected he had decades of experience Prior to becoming President he was a member of the House, an ambassador, director of the CIA, and the vice-president under Reagan. After Bush we elected an Arkansas governor who couldn't keep his pecker holstered, a failed businessman who became the governor of Texas and led us into an illegal war of aggression in Iraq, a community organizer from Chicago who caused massive political defeats for his party, and then Trump. After Bush, we seemed to think experience was a bad thing when we chose our President. We elected Presidents who needed to learn the job on an OJT basis. Americans prefer a mechanic who has years of experience, but reject a Presidential candidate who has years of experience. Goodbye, Mr. President, you will be missed.
President Bill Clinton wrote a book in cooperation with James Patterson, "The President is Missing". The book is about a president who goes missing for a period of time for a secret meeting with some rebels. . I wonder how much of that book is based on a real event by then Vice President George H. W. Bush.
Here's what Bill Clinton had to say about Mr. Bush in an op-ed. “Honorable, gracious and decent man who believed in the United States, our Constitution, our institutions and our shared future.” Well said. Bush carried on a tradition, started by Reagan, of leaving a hand written note for their successor. His note to Clinton was a simple sentiment, wishing him well and saying he was rooting hard for his success. The man was a class act.
One of his aides last night recounted a secret trip by VP Bush when he was in South America. He and a handful of aides and secret service agents took a Blackhawk helicopter up to El Salvador (Reagans orders) where Bush met with a group of the El Salvadoran military who had been committing atrocities. He warned them to cease and desist or the U.S. would completely cut off all aid to the regime.
