I agree, the fact he told everyone their health insurance "would go down by $2,500 a year and not a dime in new taxes". Then "if we like our doctor we can keep our doctor, if we like our plan we can keep our plan." Paying for it by gutting $550 Billion from Medicare. I think the lies from Trump are costly and deceptive. Thanks for pointing them out Wally ;).........Oh wait.......

Which only allows him to force them to be in session, it does not give him the ability to speak on the floor without invitation.
Art 1 Sec 5 each house makes its own rules. Part of those rules are who can speak and when. Show me the "and the president can come by once a year he just has to say when or really he can come by any time because you know reasons and junk" rule on the books bud

I agree, and reiterate my contempt for her lack of respect for the office of the presidency.
Some feel the State of the Union addresses over the years have become bloated political speeches. There may be some truth to that but that is the president's prerogative. Those attending are not required to listen.

The president said that Pelosi did not want the public to hear the truth. It seems clear that what he said is a true statement. His address would be aired, I assume on all broadcast channels. Dems seem to be okay with suppressing free speech and hearing only what they want to hear whether it is true or not.

As far as what is enumerated in the US Constitution:

Article 2 - The Executive Branch
Section 3 - State of the Union, Convening Congress

"He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States."

It does not prescribe an exact time or date. The only clause that seems somewhat noteworthy is: "on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them"

In making him respect my sage advice, I did not threaten that,
if he insisted on intruding into the People's chamber,
I would sneak up on him and pull his pants down ...
Nor did I rule it out."

The purpose of the SOU is not to lecture anyone.

It is sad that we have a president that still does not understand the most basic of government processes.

    1) its not part of his duty to give information. See the semi colon? Separate clause.
    2) ok so he's convened them back into session when they were on recess. Now what? He still doesn't have the power to speak on the floor, see art 1 sec 5 where the houses themselves make those rules up. Now cite me the rule that says the president can speak on the floor when he feels like it.

My comment was dealing with a poster suggesting the President can't disrupt Congress.

And he can't. He can call them into session, big whoop. He can't force them to let him speak, he can't force them to even consider his proposals.
That's sort of the point. Likewise Congress has a pretty tough time interfering with things that really are his bag.

You don't think being called into session, or into a special session disrupts Congress? How about adjourning them....for as long as he sees fit? Not a disruption?

What's your point? Pelosi is making history by being an Ass? There is procedure and a good amount of tradition. She wants to appease the radical left to save herself. Nothing new about that.

Donald Trump has exactly the same right to speak on the House floor, as every other '*****- grabber' out there, and Madam Speaker has her gavel aimed at his small hands if he dares try.

LOL. tRUMP has been doing that since 2016 on the national political stage. 24/7 multiple times a day. Lies upon lies upon lies.

And his personal life, likely since he was old enough to make gestures and talk.

Trump can just end the shutdown and then he'll be free to deliver the speech in the House.

Maybe there shouldn't be a state of the union until the government shutdown is over.

It's OBVIOUS that the state of the union is not so good. The nation is still strongly divided, trillions in debt and on top of it all there is a partial government shutdown, hurting thousands of government workers and private citizens and threatening the overall stability of the nation's economy.

Trump has little good to report at this time, so what's the point of a state of the union while the shutdown is still ongoing?

Still can't admit Pelosi just publicly made Trump her bitch, can you? I can promise you Cantaloupe Caligula knows it, and we'll be getting reports of an epic Oval Office shitfit any time now.

Denial - it ain't just a river in Egypt... :roflol:

I mean it wouldn't last for that long as someone would start a civil war over that, but I don't think mutually assured destruction is what you really meant by he's got the power to disrupt them if he feels like it.
Theoretically he's got the power to launch nukes if he feels like it, in reality his secret service agents would almost immediately relieve him of command if he started ****ing around like that for no reason.

My point is he doesn't have the power to force congress to let him speak on the floor. That has been my only point.
Is Pelosi an ass? Absolutely. Is Trump likewise an ass? Absolutely.
Are they both peing petty children and ruining our credibility as a nation with their tantrums? Absolutely.
