President Trump announced Friday that he would un-sign the global arms pact known as the Arms Trade Treaty in the latest illustration of his aversion to international pacts and world governance.

“We will never allow foreign bureaucrats to trample on your Second Amendment freedom,” Trump said during a speech before the National Rifle Association in Indianapolis. “I’m officially announcing today that the United States will be revoking the effect of America’s signature from this badly misguided treaty.”

Kudo's to Trump for dropping out of this treaty.

Its a win not just for the 2nd amendment but for national sovereignty as well.

The power of gun owners on the election is not something to take lightly. Most gun owners are very serious about their rights and Trump would be wise to use the Democrats anti-gun sentiment to his advantage.

Agreed. Currently there are democrat presidential candidates that support mandatory gun buy backs, etc.

Gun control is a losing issue for dems.

What am I bet that not one of you knew an Arms Trade Treaty even existed until just now,

Methinks I detect a little more than a coincidence that he planned this stunt for the day Maria Butina is sentenced.

Oh we were well aware of this piece of UN nonsense.

Calling it a "treaty" is a real laugh though.

Trump’s action drew an immediate rebuke from international human rights groups.

“The United States will now lock arms with Iran, North Korea and Syria as non-signatories to this historic treaty whose sole purpose is to protect innocent people from deadly weapons,” said Oxfam America President Abby Maxman.

Adotei Akwei, of Amnesty International USA, said in a statement: “With this announcement the Trump administration will re-open the floodgates for arms sales with weakened human rights criteria.”

Surely this is the most immoral and irresponsible administration in history, reflective of the man-child in charge of it.

Trump's goal is to make a mockery of U.S. presidents from now on.
He's truthless, ignorant, can barely read, has the attention span of a gnat,
and a criminal. And faked his own health physical. For all these things, his
    cult worships him.

    WTF is globalism?

Anyway, we signed the treaty to try and keep guns away from human rights abusers. Given that Trump's best friends around the world are human rights abusers (Kim, Xi, MbS, Erdowan, Putin, et al.) and that he will do anything to pander to his base, I'm not at all surprised by this, but I am saddened by it. Once more this selfish buffoon is lowering us to the moral level of Russia and China.

Well, there’s two of you. While I was reading, it occurred to me that this was one of those right wing bugaboos that play well to the isolationists and the gun crowd.

And the NRA needed a boost too!

Things haven’t been going so well since Maria Butina flirted her way into the NRA leadership’s hearts and allowed themselves to be used to funnel Russian money into GOP candidate’s coffers without their knowledge.

Conservatives now support international arms trade. How ironic.

    From Wikipedia

"The Arms Trade Treaty obligates member states to monitor arms exports and ensure that weapons don't cross existing arms embargoes or end up being used for human-rights abuses, including terrorism. Member states, with the assistance of the U.N., will put into place enforceable, standardized arms import and export regulations (much like those that already exist in the U.S.) and be expected to track the destination of exports to ensure they do not end up in the wrong hands. Ideally, that means limiting the inflow of deadly weapons into places like Syria.[26]"

So, conservatives like Syrian terrorists to be able get more arms more easily? All for the non-existent possibility that American gun owners will be restricted by the treaty?

This is really just a dog-whistle to the NRA crowd. And they lap it up like the good lemming they are. No surprise there.

Yes it is. And very typical one, too.

    Pure parochial fearmongering.

All you have to do is peddle the idea that someone is after their precious guns and they’ll empty their wallets.

Every dime of which goes to support the lobbying efforts of the gun and munitions industries, who are the ones who really profit.

Every American exercising their 2nd Amendment rights is a good thing.

I've got one of these coming right now...

So you are saying that we already have the same, or higher, standards than the treaty. No loss then. Time to move on to the next outrage.

Allowing foreigners to trample our 2A rights.

"Anti-gun treaty proponents continue to mislead the public, claiming the treaty would have no impact on American gun owners. This is a bald-faced lie. For example, the most recent draft treaty includes export/import controls that would require officials in an importing country to collect information on the "end user" of a firearm, keep the information for 20 years, and provide the information to the country from which the gun was exported. In other words, if you bought a Beretta Shotgun, you would be an "end user" and the U.S. government would have to keep a record of you and notify the Italian government about your purchase. That is gun registration. If the U.S. refuses to implement this data collection on law-abiding American gun owners, other nations might be required to ban the export of firearms to the U.S.[33]"

LOL, human rights abusers ran this charade.

" On 12 July 2012, the United States issued a statement condemning the selection of Iran to serve as vice president of the conference. The statement called the move "outrageous" and noted that Iran is under UN Security Council sanctions for weapons proliferation.[34]"

Think I'll celebrate by going to our wonderful city gun range today.

A relatively small amount of the NRA's budget comes from gunmakers. You call them a lobby, I call it democracy. The NRA is my favorite civil rights organization.
