This is a worry to an Aussie. Sure, I am a proud Australian, fortunate never having had to ever be part of the Military. My Grandfather and his Brother were part of the First World War in Gallipoli and then in France. My Father got shot at by Japs in New Guinea in WW2. My Brother is a retired Brigadier General, but was not in Vietnam. Was integral in the argy bargy with Indonesia over Timor. I am a fifth/sixth (whatever generation) Aussie. But.....I never and I don't know anyone who parades or claims 'patriotism' as though it somehow separates me from every other Aussie. We are all the same. We live under the Southern Cross. We are Australian.......never claiming this thing (which is morphing into something sinister under Trump) called patriotism as though it is a Badge of Honour, chanted like Happy Clappers do, for example. I am way past an age when I could ever be party of the regular Military, but my Son is eligible, and I am sure that if we were in need of boosting our Military either through conscription of volunteer enlistment, he'd do his duty to this Country without claiming to have that alleged Badge of Honour. He would do his duty, as would I as part of some sort of Home Guard for Old Bastards or whatever. I have a notion that this call to 'patriotism' is in fact a call to nationalism (almost Nazi like,) and that is being demonstrated over in the Strait of Hormuz right now. And......Trump is almost saying, "Unless you are with me and my USA, you are not American, you are not a 'patriot,' instead, you are a treasonous person against whom I will unleash my almighty fury.
It goes deeper By branding someone who states what they feel is legitimate criticism is a traitor you are in fact breaching the first amendment. You know BL. I sometimes feel we fight harder for freedom of speech than the Americans simply because it is NOT written down in the constitution. I think having a first amendment has made them complacent about that freedom
OP said "japs" My gawd, could you just imagine if Trump ever said "Japs"? #BeyondHitler What does Mr Bush lawyer call the Chinese?
Even Japs here in Australia have zero problem being called Japs...just like I have no problem being called an Aussie. I call Chinese people, Chinese.....some bogans might call them 'ch**inks,' which is a tad crass I reckon for some reason. We call you blokes Yanks, sometimes even Septic Tanks. My Father called them 'Over here, overpaid, and over sexed.' Who cares?
"Jap" is a very racist pejorative. You cant see the reason saying '*****" is 'crass'? And yet Trump is 'racist'? lol Oh look, you cant even spell CH*** on the forum
In fact he is and should be more confined as he speaks for the government ergo when he seeks to silence someone else that is in effect the government breaching the first amendment
The worst thing about Trump is that he is a radical. That frightens people more than calling him a bigot!
Did you ever notice the first thing a supporter of the President does when anyone is critical of the President is attack that person.
So you quoted what Trump almost said. In other words you stated what you wish he had said. The U.S. has been in a cold war with Iran for decades. The reason is not the strait of Hormuz. It is the terrorism sponsored by Iran that has killed Americans. I suspect that, if they were killing Australians, they would work up some enmity from you. I don't think Australia would put up with it and I'm surprised you would. Be glad they aren't stealing your tankers.
You should hear the nick names they have for Aboriginals! If we or Trump were to use those terms here in the U.S. openly as Australians do they would burn the country down, literally.. Hypocrisy "FRONT AND CENTER"
Did you ever notice the first thing a supporter of the President does when anyone is critical of the President is attack that person.
It’s not “America, love her or leave her“; it’s “America, the great, let’s make her even greater.” And then we argue and debate how best to do so, vote, and let reality be the final judge. America, don’t make her great, make her greater. Yaron Brook:
I don't spending much time thinking or caring about Australia, not that it is probably a nifty place. Australians are free to think, say, and do whatever they please so long as it does't bother the kangaroos or scare the kiddies.
If you don't mind visiting a country that is buried under an epidemic of ice (heroin and crystal meth mixed and then consumed).
That's exactly what he's saying. Sie sind bei uns, oder Sie sind gegen uns You are with us, or you are against us. The dark angels are running amok again. These are very dark days for the US and world. I never believed I would live to see this happen in the US. It is like the worst Orwellian nightmare come to life. And people are running furiously towards the cliff with their eyes wide open. I never imagined that this country had become so dark and evil.
Trump Abandons All Pretense Of Disowning Chant, Calls Crowd ‘Patriotic’ https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/trump-chant-ilhan-omar-tweet President Trump dribbled his weakest yet denunciation of the crowd’s “send her back” chants over his Saturday morning tweet — that he was not “particularly happy” with the cries — before fully embracing the chanters as “patriotic” people who “love the USA!” So.........what is President Flip Flop trying to say here? Racism is OK if it is expressed by patriots? People who love their country are bigots? I think what he is trying to say is patriotism demands that you reject people who "don't belong here." Like those brown people who criticize him. Whatever it is, he is clearly testing the limits of how much gaslighting of his minions he can get away with. He's trying to get them to believe after tweeting the 4 congresswomen should go back where they came from, and inciting the rally mob by launching in to a tirade about Omar, then allowing the a racist chant to go on for 13 seconds before it faded, that he wasn't happy with what the mob was shouting. Will they believe him and in so doing reject the factual printed and visual evidence....................YES.
