I thought you folks would get a kick out of this story of PC (and capitalism) gone amok. In order to convince people there is a gender pay gap, Hasbro intentionally creates a gender pay gap. But shouldn't women be outraged that, in order for the game to be fair, they need to be given an advantage rather than win on their own merits? And does anyone in their right mind think because there's a gender gap in a board game that it will do anything for the alleged pay gap in real life?
There is no gender pay gap. There’s just a gap in the average pay across ALL careers men and women choose. There is no solid research that proves equally qualified men and women in the exact same fields get paid differently. Men just happen to choose careers that pay more across the board. Choices matter.
Won't work. I hear they changed Park Place to Wine Bars. The men will buy them and take all the women's money. They'll land there every time.
This opens up a whole new category of PC Monopoly. How about: Black Monopoly where Free Parking is replaced by Al Sharpton riots on your behalf and gets you blackmail money, and every Chance card is Get out of Jail Free. Illegal Alien Monopoly where you get $200 whether you pass Go or not and Community Chest is free healthcare. Lesbian Monopoly where all the tokens are cats and the object of the game is to rid the world of razors. Real feminist Monopoly where the object of the game is to put all white men in jail and elect Hillary president. Gay Monopoly where all the tokens are in drag and the top properties have names like Bendover Street and Gay Bath House Alley. Transgender Monopoly where every space on the board is a different gender bathroom. Adam Schiff Monopoly where every space on the board is a different reason to impeach Trump. Climate activist Monopoly where tokens that use any energy at all are prohibited and the object of the game is to tear down all the houses and hotels. Antifa Monopoly where all the tokens wear masks and the object of the game is to destroy America.
I think it's tongue in cheek. Any man playing will instantly recognise how unfair and pointless it is.
Both of these games are effectively unplayable. What does that say about Hasbro's motivations? I wish I could have picked up a copy of each, I reckon they'll be worth big bucks in a half century.
