So random guy who wrote about it before some other random guy who also wrote about it? And no. Not really. There are key conceptual differences between the two. Like if the right to trial was the right to have the government not interfere with a trial means you don’t necessarily have to have a trial. Or if the right to life was real, then the government has to provide you with things to have life, like quarantine people when there is an pandemic.
You don’t seem to grasp the concept of people working together to solve a problem. It’s always all about you and your half empty glass and the others who are drinking what’s left. The little virus has shown the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of the ‘you’re on your own’ crowd and confirmed the intelligence and strength of those who believe that we’re in it together. All around the world, the success stories in dealing with the virus have been countries where people worked together quickly and shared information and leaders who led by example and fierce concern for all the people in their countries. trump is the spokesman for the self absorbed ideology and he’s even willing to throw his own supporters under the bus to save himself. I see him shedding support on a daily basis. People are exhausted by the vain drama queen.
I’m talking to you about how the constitution is a negative rights document and how negative rights work. And you call me ignorant because.... I don’t care enough about some random point you think you have? Your argument is constitutionalism but you don’t acknowledge it’s a negative rights document. I mean have you even mentioned incoportation yet? That’s literally the easiest way you can counter my talking points. What about the 9th amendment? You’re talking about your rights like you know them. But you haven’t shown indication you know what they are.
I call you ignorant because you claimed we have no right to guns or free assembly. Try again. I obviously know more about rights, than you do.
You are right we need a convention, but not with that organization guiding it. They do not support proper preparation assuring that all Amendments habe constitutional intent. I suspect it is Koch bros funded, most are.
Well, I certainly am concerned things like this could set a terrible precedent for other things in the future. That being said, none of this really came out of left field. We already knew many decades ago that disease pandemics could be used as a pretext for taking away rights on a large scale. And before that, there were large wars. Many books have been written about this in the past about freedom and liberties being potentially threatened by states of emergency that drag on for long periods of time. Unfortunately there is a gulf between ideals, and pragmatism, and the reality of how things end up working.
I‘m guessing he would have been someone who complained about doing his part during WWII. While everyone else rolled up their sleeves and pitched in helping this country any way they could, he would have been “that guy” who didn’t.
Attention, subjects! While we greatly respect your constitutionally-guaranteed right to gather and protest, all units observed gathering and protesting will be apprehended, and transported to reeducation centers. For the good of the collective, stay in your pods, eat your bug paste, and comply. Your leaders love you, and care for your well-being, and, in order to protect you and the hive, we will will not hesitate to crush nonconforming units in body and spirit. New flavors of bug paste are coming soon. Thank you, and obey.
Yes but at the end of the day the 2nd Amendment trumps their illusion that they can take our rights away. The US Constitution is inviolable and was deliberately created to limit the power of the government, we must never let the politicians forget that. The power belongs to us and they can only take away what we let them take away.
C'mon now. your posts are normally a lot better than this. Going through WWII didn't involve destroying an economy. In fact it helped the economy quite a lot. What the governors have done is arbitrary and extremely destructive. The first and last paragraphs have no reason to exist in your post. They are childish hyperbole.
So you support the Gov. can just come along and declare your business to be "non essential" (pretty sure it's damn essential when it's time to pay your bills) What other rights are you OK of being stripped of? But it's OK, gov. gave those people a whopping 1,200$ to live on for who knows how long.
Do you think the Constitution is just old toilet paper? We absolutely have the right to assemble and gun rights. Just saying "nun huhh" or "corporations" does not change those facts.
Incorporation means we get the right “incorporated”into society as a whole, not just the federal governmemt. For example civil rights leaders tried to get civil protections on the federal incorporated into society via the 14th amendment. This would mean states can’t pass Jim Crow laws. But you didn’t know that did you?
I know we have gun rights and the right of assembly. Anyone who denies that has zero business preaching about rights or assuming what others do or do not know.
You don’t know any of your rights, your posts show your ignorance. Or at least the basic idea of rights and how they work. Let’s see if you can apply knowledge. When was the second amendment incorporated?
