Apparently you believe that being black is an achievement in and of itself. It isn't. It is an accident of birth. If you lack a sense of duty to provide useful work to the society you live in, that society is better without you. If you use your racial identity to excuse your lack of useful work for society, then society is MUCH MUCH better without you.

Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. I know what I have done for my country, my state, my company, my community and my family and can quantify it. Can you?

I would not have had a problem with that call to remembrance, but the silence was not in a vacuum and not absent context. Racism itself has been politicized post trump era to the point that even the reference to racism has turned into part of a sort of political correctness football with two teams and plenty of trashtalk. Maybe that 'section' just want the friggin soccer game and they don't want to be reminded about anything other than the ball, the players, the action. They sure don't want to think about bended knees, Kaepernick, BLM, or George Floyd or John Lewis death or protests and riots. And that was those were the images that the reference to racism induce these days.

Maybe some of them felt manipulated by the whole request, when they just wanted to relax and enjoy NOT thinking about racism or social justice or politics etc.

As I said, I do respect them for what they deserve such respect, their athletics the reason I watch them.

 

so 30 seconds of silence from the "fans" as requested by "their players" is too much to ask. fake fans. self entitled fans. disrespectful to their players fans. who needs fans like that huh. the sooner we start to play in empty stadiums the better imho.

Eh maybe. Mostly I just think they want to escape from 'social responsibility', the election and the constant politicization of everything these days including masks, television, the post office, and yes sports. For them, even 30 seconds seems like a burden imposed. they just want to be left alone to watch a game in peace and not think.

why dont they watch it at home then? the players certainly dont appreciate their own "fans" booing them for this. maybe if they gave up during a match when they were losing, or violently lashing out at an opposition player then booing would be warranted but for this? its not respectful to your players, they are not robots. they are using their platform to make a statement for 30 seconds and booing is the wrong reaction from their so called fans.

 

I look for good sportsmanship and character on the athletic play field. Has nothing to do with political issues.

No, Cant agree. Free speech is a two way road. You verbally ask the fans to use a moment of silence to respect your agenda, then no whining when they use their free speech rights to reject it. The players got booed when they asked for participation and these fans were offended by that request. They let the players know what they thought. Two way communication is just what any audience involved scenario will include Sometimes they applaud or cheer. Sometimes they boo or jeer. Sometimes they observe a silence. Risk was accepted when the players made the request. Just realize that most of them responded differently and concentrate on that.

 

But you certainly know what deflection is.
