CDC chief’s letter greenlighting Pence for debate draws criticism

"A letter sent by the top public health official attesting to Vice President Pence’s health and proclaiming him safe to debate Wednesday night is sparking outcry from public health experts....

The letter is raising concern within the CDC and among public health experts about the propriety of Redfield’s actions, especially after President Trump and at least nine White House employees have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The CDC is not involved in investigating the scope and source of the outbreak linked to the White House.

“To me, if we are not involved in the investigation, I don’t know how we could make that determination” that Pence is safe to participate in the debate, said one CDC official who was upset by Redfield’s action and spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation. “We should stick to our guidance. You should be quarantined for 14 days if exposed.”

This is very disconcerting especially with the Pink Eye that Pence has and the fact that The White House is a hot spot of Coronavirus activity.

Moreover, to align the CDC with the WH compromises the objectivity and reliability of the information and mission of this governmental organization.

Once upon a time in Epidemiology the CDC was considered the premier source for information on diseases, pandemic response and morbidity&mortality data.

It stands to reason that an agency that any letter claiming Pence was not infected should have been issued by an independent authority.

How is it nonsense? One of the guidelines of managing the virus is to quarantine if exposed to an infected individual. That's what contact tracing is all about. Pence's participation flew in the face of that guideline. And he's the head of the task force! Another example of different rules for different people.

 

This past Summer, it was printed in our newspaper that people could call the police about stray cats. They would take the cats to a local vet who would euthanize them. Residents were furious about it. Come to find out, the vet knew NOTHING about it and the Police Chief just okay'd the article to run. She outright refused to kill any animals brought in by the local police. The article was retracted.

The point being, it IS possible the CDC knew nothing about the "approval" and the WH just ran with it on their own. I would not be surprised at this point. Even if he is not COVID-positive, he clearly has conjunctivitis (pink eye) which is very contagious.

 

When was the last time Trump and Pence were in the same room?

Pence looked hella sick yesterday. Both of his eyes looked so sunken and yellow/red that his face looked like a Ill fitted mask.

That said, his performance was infinity better then Trump's, though his attempt to try was shut down by Kamala pretty damn quick.

 

I've never once stated the CDC was anything but the best in the world at what they do...
