I think the purpose is really a way to fund the stimulus.. I think you guys are making something out of nothing.

Cause its sorta hard to be elitist with lower or middle class income.
But I guess you found a way to label people that regardless.

Dang it. I try to “like” your post repeatedly in rapid succession but it just toggles between “like” and “unlike”.

Do they really expect that the tens of millions of gun owners are going to say "Yes I own an AR-15 so I will take this tax credit"?

You aren't going to find very many people who own AR's who also believe there should be restrictions on owning ARs....I highly doubt anybody who owns one is going to ping themselves on the government database as owning one while simultaneously getting a free $200 tax credit admitting as much in the process.

But by all means if that's how they want to try to implement this then have at it. There are estimated tens of millions of "assault weapons" in the hands of US citizens, when the government gets like 27 people who admit to owning one I'm curious to see what their next step is.

Many "assault rifles" are fairly expensive anyway, if someone can afford one then offering a $200 tax incentive isn't likely going to persuade them to tell you about it. Add another zero to the end of that and you may have more takers.

You should spend some time thinking about things. First, elitism is more than money in the bank. If we examine your thoughts here we find poor people can believe they are elite based on their perceived moral superiority. That’s where virtue signaling by progressives on gun control comes from. It has nothing to do with money. The elite can be a conglomerate of poor and wealthy individuals who believe their mandate to rule is based on moral superiority.

I will always label people who think they should control others elitist. Whether they are rich, poor or in between. Regardless of what they believe gives them superiority over others.

"My side"? I have no side even though you continue to try to put me on one by stating things like this. Just because I am anti-Biden gun restrictions doesn't mean I am in favor of everything the Republicans do like the war on drugs you mentioned earlier.

If something is dumb then it gets called out by me regardless of who does it. AR-15 taxes are dumb just like weed being illegal and churches not having to pay taxes.

If that's the case then put a $200 tax on other Constitutional Rights as well. There is a whole lot of "assembling" going on all over the nation right now as I'm sure we've all noticed, we could make a lot of money to pay for the stimulus by taxing that. Not even $200, just like 20 bucks a head. The government isn't saying you CAN'T assemble, it's just saying it'll cost each person 20 bucks to gather. Should be fine based on this argument. We need money for stimulus, has to come from somewhere and if we can tax people's 2nd Amendment Rights then why not the 1st Amendment ones also?

    I doubt that would pass.
But, i wouldn't be surprised if they try and start fining people for not observing social distance guidelines. Especially if outbreaks keep getting worse.

$200 on every abortion, and the record of said abortion must be sent to the state, where it becomes public record.

The left refuses to understand that the power to tax is limited by the 2nd Amendment.

Why do you keep bringing up Democrat’s? I have only referred to Democrats in response to you bringing them up. You continue to fail to address the topic.

So you pay $200 extra for your gun. There’s plenty of other things you pay extra on, cars, homes, why should guns be any different?

    This is no biggie.

Can you offer any evidence this is the plan? It is not what is outlined in the OP.

This idea that seems to be yours alone does not have any relevance to the OP. You are talking about using the IRS whereas the Biden plans utilize the customary BATFE route and tax stamp application.

It is my idea. I think its better then an attempted ban.
That works as well I guess.

Yes it is a biggie. Many here would pay in excess of of $20,000.

And do you know what limitations come with NFA designation of an item? If this was implemented, and I paid for the tax stamp on one of my magazines, if my wife was found in a vehicle with that magazine and I was not physically present and in possession of the magazine my wife would be a federal felon.

The only loophole is to form a trust with trustees who can be in possession of the item. This gets expensive as well with attorney fees. And it increases wait times for processing of applications by two to three times. Often up to a year and a half.

    This whole idea is bizarre.

Why should that not pass yet this tax on the 2nd Amendment be allowed to pass?

Do you see where we are coming from now? This isn't us making something out of nothing but rather looking at this from a Constitutional standpoint. The Constitution is not an a la carte menu, all of the Rights provided within it are equal yet the government is allowed to mess with the 2nd Amendment in ways that would cause legitimate riots and uprisings if they tried the same with other Amendments, regardless of the reason why. If it's "ok" to do it to the 2nd Amendment then it's also "ok" to do it to other Amendments, including the 1st and the 15th.

If the government is allowed to pass legislature that allows them to tax me for exercising my 2nd Amendment Rights then they should be allowed to tax me for exercising my 1st and 15th. So if I can get tagged with a gun tax then I should be able to be tagged with a poll tax, or an assembly tax.

The answer is either yes or no, there is no middle ground although as a society we tend to be "ok" with doing stuff like this to the 2nd Amendment because many folks are scared of guns. Being afraid of something or not liking it or believing it should even be a Right isn't grounds for messing with it. I personally believe that many Americans are literally way too ignorant to have any businesses casting a vote for anything regarding government. That doesn't mean I would support a poll tax to disenfranchise the poor who tend to be more uneducated than the affluent to prohibit them from exercising their right to vote.

You don't tax Constitutional Rights whether that's someone's Right to own a gun or the dummy down the roads Right to vote when he can't even name the 3 branches of Government. Find another way to pay for the stimulus if that's the actual goal here because taxing Americans Rights to do it is flat out immoral regardless of which Right it is you're choosing to do it.

There is no Right to abortion under the US Constitution as far as I'm aware. A better example is charging a $200 poll tax in order to cast a vote. The government isn't denying your right to vote, it's simply charging you taxes to do so. The government isn't denying your right to own an AR-15, it's simply charging you taxes to do so. It's literally the same exact thing.

I dont think they are taxing all "arms". They do ban certain speech, and tax other forms of freedom dont they?
I think it only applies to specialized classifications if im not mistaken. Otherwise, why cant I just weaponize illicit drugs and claim its my right to own them. There is a line still.

You have no Constitutional Right to own a car or a house. Amend the Constitution to make owning a car a Constitutional Right and I'll have a problem with a government mandated tax on cars too.

It only applies to "assault" style rifles as far as I understand. And as far as I know the only speech that is actually banned openly is speech designed to incite panic or government insurrection or something, IE you can't walk into a crowded theater and yell fire because you think it's funny or something. But virtually no "expression" is actually illegal. I am legally allowed to walk around with a "Down with the Government!" shirt on and stand on a corner with a bullhorn screaming that until my hearts content, I just can't actually try to go overthrow the government.

If the government tomorrow tried to pass a bill stating that if Americans want to wear clothes denouncing the government or fussing about the government at a gathering then it'll cost 20 buck a head in the form of a federally mandated tax then I'd be the first one screaming against that too. And you can't weaponize drugs and be covered under the Constitution because drugs are not "arms". Arms has a definition and drugs aren't covered under it.

What other forms of Constitutional Rights are taxed?
