The fact is, brand names come and go. It probably has more to do with needing to revive their brand and this is free publicity. It scores points with the left for seemingly being conscience driven and it appeals to the right because it is no longer a "black brand". In the end it is driven by money. All business decisions are. But I know the trump party doesn't believe in the free market.
You really don't have a clue do you because that's an idiotic statement. It seems to me that the people on the right are the ones standing up for keeping black people on labels mainly because we think it's stupid to see the world through the left's racist glasses. White, black, Indian, whatever. No one really cares until you try to change it because it might make some white millennial uncomfortable if they have to look at a strong black woman on a bottle of syrup while they eat their pancakes.
Oh, please. It's all about the bottom line. Quaker owns the brand, so it's about more than Aunt Jemima.
Leftwingers don't want black people on labels? Where did you get that idea? It's a matter of perception. A lot of people, especially Millennials, think the Aunt Jemima image is racist and probably want to punish anyone trying to make money off it.
Millions of Americans, black and white, think the Aunt Jemima image is racist. Quaker Oats didn't want people going after the company.
~ It's too late ! Here is a beautiful woman who single handedly was responsible for mending race relations in the early 1970's. By 1979 interracial couples were making babies all over the place. The rest is history. The music helped as well - especially from this guy ...
If you're worried about people complaining of ridiculous things, liberals have the first billion places in line permanently reserved. Why don't you start with them.
It's a hoot, but none of it affects me personally. If I can't get Virginia Highland County produced maple syrup (THE best) any generic will do, can't stomach Cream of Wheat (gimme grits), and sorry Uncle Ben, the closest I come to rice is the various incarnations of Rice-a-Roni. Also never indulged in Eskimo Pies, chewing ice-cream just makes my teeth hurt.
Ads change constantly. Subway saw record sales while Jared was their spokesman. Obviously they had to move on because he was a pedo, but Subway somehow pulled through. Again, it's a logo change. Who cares?
I facetiously asked you about a decoder ring because your comment didn't make sense. Preference and discrimination aren't the same thing. Black people faced--and still face--systematic and often coordinated, conscious discrimination by, especially, white people. The Aunt Jemima image is racist. No, we don't. Not racist... Hope this helps.
According to my mother, if you keep rolling your eyes like that, they will get stuck. Which, by the by, 'oh please' is not a valid response. Once again, the 'bottom line' can and will be impacted by their choice of appeasement. There was nothing derogatory in the picture, and it's basis was in reality.
I'm quite certain Quaker concluded keeping Aunt Jemima isn't the hill they wanted to die on. A lot of younger people in particular see the Aunt Jemima character as racist and could turn on Quaker brands generally. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaker_Oats_Company
I don't know. how does removing it help them? Iran is about to get nukes and here we are talking about the REAL IMPORTANT ISSUES (people on a syrup bottle)
They may have concluded that the appeasement to the younger group was more important that long term consumers. To declare it as being a 'racist' portrayal, however, is seriously lacking in facts.
I gotta say, all these politically correct name changes annoy me, I still don't get what is wrong with calling a basketball team the Red men....but you posting woke this and woke that is so freakin' juvenile it far more irritating. Can't you use adult language? Thanks
Still, those "billion places in line" would be BEHIND anyone making ridiculous complaints about the results of 2020 Election. And, back on-topic to the OP, thus is obviously a case of PC Run Amok.
I think it was driven by intimidation from the left owned BLM. Its not "the right" that gets offended by Aunt Jemima for being black. Its the left. And who gets offended when a white person is a spokes person? The left. The left as a group, even a small group, is crazy and bent on destroying. Businesses are afraid of crazy destructive people and they do stupid things to get them off their back.
