    Today's Covid19 statistics

    SD's number of deaths per 1M pop; 2,149

    U.S. average number of deaths per 1M pop; 1,634

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

    A difference of 515 deaths per 1M pop, thus, nationally;

    515 deaths X 332(m) = 713,468 deaths VERSUS our current 540,843 deaths

    IN OTHER WORDS, if every State had adopted Governor Kristi Noem's hands-off approach, we would have near 720K Covid19 deaths instead of 540K, correct?

    Anticipated response from the Republicans; '' A difference of 180K deaths, Geeeeezzze, we should have kept the economy open''

    BUT WAIT A MINUTE........

    In reference to the following state rankings, what if South Dakota had ranked top 5/top10?

    I am impressed. This is good, reliable, researched information.
    I would like to suggest that we add "POLITICAL HOMICIDE" to our conversations. I think that any president, governor, or other government official who makes a policy decision that results in the death of American citizens/residents is guilty of "political homicide" unless they can prove that the benefit is worth the loss of life.
    Ex-president Trump and Governor Noem are definitely guilty of political homicide.

    Kristi wants to go on a "We're the only state that didn't'' Tour

    Well, I should also go on a Tour, ''I'm still alive'' Tour, and here's why;

    Population density.......where I live; I'm the only guy per square mile

    County population density, (Burke County, ND); 1.7 inhabitants per square mile

    Population; 2,200

    Number of Covid19 deaths; 1

    Burke's County Death Rate; 0.44%

    Note: No lockdowns!

    U.S. Death Rate; 1.86%

    Before everyone makes up their mind on race, population density, and politics in some of these states, they may want to consider some facts.

    See attached file at bottom.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.brookings.edu/research/american-indians-and-alaska-natives-are-dying-of-covid-19-at-shocking-rates/?amp

    upload_2021-3-10_15-38-38.jpeg

    Buffalo county is 85% Native American.

    upload_2021-3-10_15-40-39.jpeg

    Almost the entire county (Dewey) is part of the Cheyenne River Reservation. The county is 74% Native American.

    upload_2021-3-10_15-44-42.jpeg

    Oglala Lakota county is 94% Native American. The statistics go on and on.

    Native Americans in these places live in small houses with large multigenerational families.

    Get woke people. Covid has wrecked the people we owe the most, and nobody is even aware of it. Did some governors do better than others? Yep. But you’ve been misled on who’s dying and why.

    We simply must do better. H1N1 influenza wrecked Native Americans compared to the rest of the US population. Yet healthcare we promised them is still underfunded, under staffed, and lacking infrastructure.

    The only bright spot is that tribes are vaccinating their people more quickly than any demographic I’m aware of in the US.

    I applaud any elected official who realizes that we DO NOT need govt to make personal decisions on our behalf

    As for you and other Democrat voters, perhaps you like govt to run your lives

    Thanks. Yes I know a guy who works with the Navajo in Arizona. He has been heartbroken. Now his priority is getting them vaccinated.

    What’s really sad is many tribes report losing a large percentage of elders and native language speakers. Most tribes are prioritizing vaccine to native speakers and elders.

    South Dakota's Cheyenne River Reservation Covid19 Update

    Population; 11,195.......https://www.bia.gov/regional-offices/great-plains/south-dakota/cheyenne-river-agency

    Despite road checkpoints, mask mandate, contact tracing, and other prevention measures;

    Number of Covid19 Cases; 1,757
    Number of Covid19 Deaths; 35
    Percent of population affected; 15.69%
    Number of Covid19 Deaths per 1,000 pop; 35/1.757 = 19.92
    Death Rate; 35/1757 = 1.99%

    https://www.crstcoronavirusupdates.com/

    CONCLUSION: Yes, Indian Reservations do have a very high rate of infections, and a very high number of deaths per 1,000 pop., and historically, it is true that many diseases have nearly wiped them out.

    Here's a statement that would be considered malicious; In reference to lockdowns, mask mandates, social distancing, and other Covid19 prevention measures, "Indian Reserve Chiefs should let their people make their own decisions''

    South Dakota Covid19 stats;

    Population; 884,659
    Number of Covid19 Cases; 113,962
    Percent of population affected; 12.88%
    Number of Covid19 Deaths; 1,904
    Number of Covid19 Deaths per 1,000 pop; 1904/884.659 = 2.15
    Death Rate; 1,904/113,962 = 1.67%

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

    National Average;

    Population; 332 million
    Number of Covid19 Cases; 29,862,124
    Percent of population affected; 8.99%
    Number of Covid19 Deaths; 542,191
    Number of Covid19 Deaths per 1,000 pop; 542,191/332,000 = 1.63
    Death Rate; 1.81%

    They are guilty of trying to prevent fighting a medical crisis with an economic one. Kristi Noem gets my vote for best governor in the nation. None of these statistics consider how people might behave if the decision is theirs and not from an authoritarian government. I'm not on board with this at all. Not even a little.

    I agree, it’s amazing with no mandates SD managed less deaths per million than many states with sweeping, enforced mandates. It’s also interesting they managed this while achieving the second lowest unemployment rate in the country even though the largest employment sector in the state is the service industry.

    It seems more of the services need to go to natives though. :)

    Quote: 'it’s amazing with no mandates SD managed less deaths per million than many states with sweeping, enforced mandates'

    FALSE!

    And everything I posted, in one year, out the other............very sad

    Well, let's use the right vocabulary/proper English;

    A mandate is an ORDER, and Kristi did in fact ORDERED;

    a. School closures;

    https://www.keloland.com/news/healt...-19-south-dakota-update-1-more-positive-case/

    https://siouxcityjournal.com/news/l...cle_14ddb2a4-3a5d-5a1c-b467-eb3327f2392e.html

    NOTE: IMO, an order to close schools is a stay-at-home/study at home order, and a lockdown

    b. Vulnerable residents of a few counties to stay home until further notice

    https://www.keloland.com/news/local-news/new-executive-order-will-target-minnehaha-lincoln-counties/

    THUS, state-wide, there were LIMITED actions to control the spread of Covid19

    --------------------

    Although Kristi did not ordered a mask mandate, excluding shoools, closures of non-essential businesses, and enforced Covid19 prevention measures/guidelines, LOCALLY LOCALLY, LOCALLY, there were mask mandates, business/gathering restrictions, ordinances, and lockdowns. In additions, many large events/regular sport seasons were cancelled.

    Examples;

    https://www.argusleader.com/story/n...taurants-sioux-falls-south-dakota/3033632001/

    https://www.argusleader.com/story/n...s-public-places-indoor-businesses/5744128002/

    https://www.argusleader.com/story/n...akota-coronavirus-update-covid-19/2914811001/

    https://www.keloland.com/news/healt...-mandate-working-to-keep-covid-19-cases-down/

    https://www.usnews.com/news/best-st...servation-going-into-lockdown-due-to-covid-19

    -------------------------

    IN ADDITION, as I stated in my OP, compared to the rest of the country, South Dakota and its Counties, Metros, Urbans, and Cities population/population density are very low, thus, nationally;

    SD's population density......ranked 46
    SD's largest Metro area population density .....ranked 182
    SD's largest Urban area population density.....ranked 112
    SD's largest city population density......ranked 232

    AND

    List of States by percent of Black population......SD ranked 45th

    List of States by percent of Seniorts.......SD ranked 23rd

    AND ONCE AGAIN, if we were to exclude Native Americans, SD's number of deaths per 1M pop is still 200 deaths above national average, thus, 1,843 versus 1,643.

    Here's a question the RIGHT should be asking themselves:

    1. Like the state of Maine, why SD's number of deaths per 1M pop ISN'T significantly below national average?

    SD's current number of deaths per 1M pop; 2,153
    U.S. average; 1,643
    Maine; 538

    2. Why SD's number of deaths per 1M is significantly/1,000 deaths above Wisconsin's 1,120 covid19 deaths per 1M pop?

    Answer; Because generally, when making comparisons, there are ''yeah, buts'', for example; "Obama doubled the debt".......Yeah, but during Obama's Presidency, the Federal Reserve boosted the debt by near $2 trillion, AND during the pandemic, the Federal Reserve also increased the debt by near $2 trillion, thus, which President increased Federal Reserve Balance Sheet? Answer; If not Trump, then certainly not Obama.

    LAST, the LEFT should stop criticizing Kristi for her lack of state-wide enforcements to combat the spread of Covid19, and the RIGHT should stop promoting SD as a MODEL for the rest of the country.

    Fair point on schools, etc. I think that was pretty universal, wasn’t it? But school closure is hardly a stay at home order.

    So if local ordinances were similar to state ordered ones elsewhere, what do you blame for SD’s higher than country average death rates? I’m not sure what your position is now.

    I’m not interested in the political aspects because I loath Dems and Reps equally. I’m just curious about your opinions on the epidemiological aspects of the SD case study. I’m with you on both sides needing to assess the results of their disparate approaches.

    Question; What do you blame for SD’s higher than country average death rates?

    Main reasons;

    1. Several superspreader events, such as the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, thus, due to a lack of enforcement of CDC's prevention guidelines/measures.
    2. Due to a high percentage of Native Americans, 8.75% of SD's population, and 280 reported Covid19 deaths.
    3. Location; SD is surrounded by 6 states, and there where no quarantine or testing requirements for out-of-state travelers.

    Main reasons why SD's number of deaths per 1M pop isn't higher than 2,153;

    1. Due to a very low population density, State, Counties, Metros, Urbans, and cities,
    2. Due to a very low percentage of Black population,
    3. SD has an average percentage of seniors, and seniors in several counties were ordered to stay home.

    I see nothing at all to support your "black population" claim.

    There may be other issues to add. For example, NYC is a major international transportation hub that was not handled well at all.

    Today, epidemiologists say that nearly ALL the COVID virus strains in the US came to the US through Europe.

    And, SD is not an international transportation hub.

    There are all manner of correlations you can find.

    But, NONE of that shows anything at all about causation.

    This is a typical problem with crap and superficial interpretations of data used to confirm preconceptions.

    For one obvious example, your pathetic post shows nothing about poverty, political representation, types of employment, or all manner of other factors that have seriously differential effect on our population.

    BUT - you want to ignore that.

    Right?

    Doesn’t look we have much disagreement then. :) We even agree this has been yet another tragedy in a long line of tragedies for a demographic we have unmet obligations to.

    · If every State had adopted Governor Kristi Noem's hands-off approach ...

    ~ We would all be better off , more content and less distrustful of government . More people would be alive.

    Or,

    Do you want to stick to the main reasons?
