The past exists in the mind as memories and the future exists in the mind as imagination.

Now then, if you are suggesting time travel is possible, explain to me how it is possible to travel to a place that exists solely in the mind.

IF you are suggesting the past and the future exists concomitant to the present, but in parallel universes, then there are infinite parallel universes. This creates another conflict, since time is being suggested here as divisible, there must exist, therefore, absolute points of time. But, there is no such thing as an absolute in the physical universe ( correct me if I'm wrong on that point ). In fact, in terms of existence, reality, etc., time doesn't really exist. It only seems to exist because we compare our memories and imagination relative to the present, which gives the present the illusion of time. Since time is an illusion, the idea of travelling in time is moot. But, IF the past and the future did exist in a parallel universe, concomitant to the present, they would not be past nor future, they would be present and these parallel universes would merely look like our past and future, which creates an absurdity.

But, I'm a layman so I have no idea, really. The above represents the limit of my own imagination and knowledge on the subject. I invite your comments.

If I time travel and the earth revolves around the sun and earth rotates I may end up in outer space.

Personally, I welcome all politicians to end up in outer space.

Well, we know that future time travel is allowed by our current understanding of physics via time dilation. So it's not just a place that exists in your imagination.

Time is a recorded measure in chronological order of history .

There is no future time , there is only future positions .

Science will claim they have proof with an experiment which is more lies .

The Caesium frequency changes because of a change of kE (kinetic energy)

Nothing to do with time .

Time is a DIMENSION of the Space-Time Continuum.

Time is affected by gravity in that clocks in space do NOT move at the same rate as clocks on earth.

Technically you can travel FORWARD in time RELATIVE to time on Earth by using a space craft that can approach the speed of light. You would travel out and back for a couple of years and return to discover that time on Earth had advanced thousands of years.

    https://phys.org/news/2020-05-future-totally.html

You will NOT be able to return to the time you left or to any point in time prior to your departure.

A measure of history cannot be affected by gravity .

You can't travel forward in time at all , you travel forward in geometrical position and your past positions are the history of where you were a recorded duration ago .

Time is a dull boring subject and I understand why science has to try and glam it up a bit .

the record is memory, or you can substitute memory for some other kind of record.

Neverthess, the record exists in the current.

The point is, the past, nor the future, exist. If they do not exist, how does one travel to them?

I agree the past nor the future exists , time travel is scientists fallacy .

One can travel to a future geometrical position or geometrical past position but always remains in the present .

Any recorded measure of the journey is a journal of history .

Space-time is a 4 dimensional virtual coordinate system designed by the practitioner .

I remember reading somewhere that time is an illusion, and that all things exist simultaneously in all times, and that our perception of time that is linear is all that our simple minds can process. And not only do all times exist simultaneously, but infinite possibilities also exist simultaneously, all somehow occupying the same space. I won't pretend to understand it, I just remembering reading it somewhere.

I disagree with you that the future exists as imagination. Imagination is the wrong thing. The future already does exist though and it's affecting the past, I posted about it years ago, here. Quantum time the future affects the past

Yes, there are infinite parallel universes.

As far as absolute points in time, Quantum theory has a minimum state of time called planck time. If there is something smaller then we need a new theory of the next smallest discrete unit of measurement. Of course, if the universe is learning about itself with physics, then a new level of existance may appear on its own one day, as I discuss here in this other thread:

The Universe is a Machine That Keeps Learning, Scientists say.

But, anyway, back to the subject, the only way that I know of time travel being theoretically possible is called Closed Timelike Curves (CTC).

You want to chew on something? Check out these quotes, of AboveAlpha, in the post of my reply to DennisTate, years ago:

Quantum time the future affects the past

Or here are the direct quotes:

When I get my speed of light time travel device working at 100% I'll get back to you guys. In the mean time I'm enjoying watching all kinds of sports programs and music on streaming before the events ever took place in real life. Kinda trippy but still nice.

From reading this thread it occurs to me that time is simply the act of particles sending outwards waves of emissions. Like heat is just the movements of particles. So, to stop time one needs to freeze the particles with the right type of lasers so that the particles don't emit waves. That's absolute zero. Now for time travel to the past one would have to get the waves of particles to run in reverse. Instead of wave motion outward, it's the absorption of waves inwardly.

Oh, and I think to actually travel it would have to be a warp field to surround oneself in a bubble moving backward in time. You wouldn't want to be directly exposed to whatever causes the particles to swallow up their own wave emissions. Warp drives, great! Another thing that's far in the future. :(

Where did you come up with the idea that past and future don't exist?

    They don't.

If they do, then they are not past, nor future.

Someone once told me that if our brains were evolved enough we could see the future the way we see the past.

Yes, but there are structures in our brains that recorded the past and exist in the present.

First off, 'travelling' to the future is possible. One needs only to be in heavier gravity or travel at a higher speed than that which one wants to surpass in time. Of course, we cant yet technology survive in the sort of gravity well or attain the sort of high speeds necessary to use this method to any meaningful extent, but someday we will be able to. And, of course, there is no coming back after such a 'trip.' It will be permanent. Satellites that have a high speed orbit must be programmed to account for the miniscule time dilation they experience racing around the earth as fast as they do, or things like GPS wouldn't work, because they are travelling into the future a little faster than the rest of us are.

In multiverse theory, there exists a universe that is just like ours but has instead progressed to some point in the future or past. If we can travel between universes, then we can travel backward or forward in time, provided we can find a way to pick which universe to go to, which becomes difficult because in order to pick one, there has to be a way to exclude an infinite amount of others. So, travelling to 'universe #9887664598497537834267806789767345698734756039485769874356987673049650' still would not be a sufficient discriptor and wouldn't work...

Unless it turns out that time is cyclical. If after all mass expands and all energy dissipates into effective nothingness, perhaps 'time' starts over with a new big bang, and everything proceeds precisely as it did before. Then it would be possible to travel to the past by travelling to the future.

Also, magic could be real. You don't know it isn't :D

Nobody suggests time travel is possible. The only ones who believe generally believe that there are extra terrestrial aliens breeding with humans. I'm surprised you don't support it.
