"Based on their findings, trial researchers believe that shorter work weeks should be seriously considered, especially for public sector management."

OH government workers who are already the least productive here and already get more days off than private sector workers and have no company they work for that must make a profit and meet a payroll.

"Recently, during the coronavirus pandemic, even notoriously hardworking Americans have become more welcoming to the notion of working a day less per week. In June 2020, one survey by The Harris Poll found that four of every five US workers favor switching to a four-day workweek."

Well DUH. What if they asked about a three-day workweek I bet the poll would say they like that even more.

Most people I ever worked with liked their jobs we weren't just a few. A lot of social activity revolves around work.

Didn't say my work was my "whole life" nor does a 40 hour work week make it ones "whole life". But work IS life. And it's what YOU make of it.

I'd love a 4 day week, or a three day work week.

The problem is, the work doesn't magically disappear. You still have 5 days (or more) of work to get done, just less time to do it.

It is remarkable how quickly people can get things done if they know they can get some time away from work.

Seems nothing motivated Marines like telling them when they were done with their task they could start liberty.

I'm sure it works in some cases, but not all. It's not a matter of speeding up a conveyor belt, or polishing the head.

Besides, when would I be able to post on this illustrious forum if I had to work twice as fast?

Kind of depends on the occupation. I don’t have kids, but my occupation gives parents the opportunity to interact with their children in nature as they work. My dad worked construction and cut timber when I was growing up. Going to work with him are some of my most cherished memories.

I remember middle aged construction workers coming up to me as a kid and saying things like “go to college so you don’t end up working hard like us”. So I went to college/university and then chose a profession where I work just as hard as they did but twice as many hours. :)

I love my “work”. It’s enjoyable, keeps me healthy, allows me to learn new things everyday, lets me set my own schedule, allows me to spend time with my wife working together, gives me perks like ability to grow my own food that’s superior nutritionally and palatably to grocery fare, etc. I could have retired at 40, but will likely work my “job” till the day I die (I hope so anyway). I can’t imagine living any other way.

Sounds like a pretty awesome job. Not many people have that sort of job.

I worked shift work for the last thirty years of my job, before I retired. We were a 24/7/365 operation. The last twenty years was 12 hour shift. I only had to work a 1/2 month for a 1/2 year. Our what we called" long change" was 7 days off in a row. This gave me plenty of time for my side hustle(cleaning carpets).

Not very many people want my job. I’ve had a standing offer for 15 years to let a young couple work their way into ownership of my business. No kids and the nephews/nieces aren’t interested so it’s wide open. No takers. It isn’t fun to everyone! :)

I know I’m lucky and I’m thankful. I wish our educational system was better at helping kids get into jobs they love. It saddens me to see so many stuck in jobs they dislike.

Maybe we could force all the stores to close one day a week and give their workers an extra day off. Imagine how fast they would work the remaining six. We used to have blue laws remember them?
