Yeah! With countries that were facing five to fifty times our worst outbreaks it is hard to get the vaccines . We were going to make AZ here but the clotting issue meant we had to rely more on Pfizer

Unfortunately it's not a full lockdown, so they have that wrong. It's partial only .. people are still moving about and shopping etc.

Were it a proper lockdown, the outbreak would be finished in a fortnight.

Yet not in vaccinations. That's where the ball was dropped.

You do realise that the reason Australia has had virtually no COVID for months, is because we use lockdowns to wipe it out, right?

    Au contraire

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07...avirus-sydney-case-numbers-lockdown/100290834

We are locking down so we can do contact tracing effectively. We have been through this before and the lockdowns plus contact tracing should limit this. Unfortunately this is the Delta strain and that means faster transmission and a younger cohort hospitalised

People until recently did not feel the urgency because we had done too good a job of stopping the spread + now they are all rushing in for the vaccine

They work to put out the spot fires, so that we don't end up with a nation-wide inferno.

It would have helped A LOT if we had not struck the issue with clotting forcing us to abandon the AZ vaccine except for older people and rely on the trickier to rollout Pfizer vaccine

Are you aware, by any chance, that the State in lockdown has a RIGHT WING leader, and the national leader is also RIGHT WING?

Just checking, because you used the word "woke". The govt is anything BUT woke. Heck, they're even openly Christian.

We're at three weeks post second dose of Pfizer, thank gawd. Apparently that puts us at maximum protection level.

Exactly America has 50 times our rate of new cases in one state alone

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

And they have the luxury of multiple vaccines available including the one shot J&j

I was early in the rollout for AZ and am also am fully vaccinated. We are jabbing record numbers but compared to America who had anyone who could hold a needle steady jabbing we are doing it slow and very cautiously but it is hard to take risks when the danger is less

Cautious is right! We used a hub for our jabs, and man o man that was a lot of shuffling from station to station and triple checking!

I think that's just ABC speak for 'two distinctly different demographics'. Drill down and you see the reality - ie, that Eastern Subs residents tested at higher rates and sooner in the outbreak, AND they complied with social distancing measures more fully than those in the South West.

As in every outbreak which has spun out of control in Australia, this one is being carried by demographics who don't do what they're supposed to do - either due to language barriers (and that's a stretch, given saturation outreach), or cultural resistance to 'rules and govt'.

A reminder of just how incredibly important it is to have very stringent migration standards on language and demonstrable willingness to assimilate. If we can't all be on same page in an emergency, we're sunk.

Personally and based on feedback we have just as much of an issue with Bogans than we do with immigrants. I know of more than a few who come against bogan pushback including one friend telling me she doing testing on this log line of people waiting and an idiot with the wrong tooth tattoo ratio (more Tatts than teeth and there weren’t that many Tatts) starts arguing about how the test kit was going to implant a microchip in his brain so the government could track him - she pointed out he had an iPhone which was doing a MUCH a better job of tracking than any microchip could do = he then started to complain that the Government was going to steal his DNA. She said at that point I could not help it- I told him that out of everyone lined up for testing HIS would be the last DNA that the government would ever want!:p

In the U.S., Operation Warp Speed has become Operation Turtle Speed. For several months, we led the pack, both One Dose and Fully vaccinated, however, due to a large percentage of vaccine hesitancy, we've fallen behind approx. 40 countries.

I don't know who will one day defend our country. IMO, .''Too scared to get vaccinated, too scared to be on the frontline''

It’s amazing how seemingly alert knowledgeable people can be sucked in. A nurse friend of mine has been affected by anti vaxer YouTubes
and told me that the experimental vaccine gets into your DNA and she wasn’t having it!

Those types are the very least of the problem - both currently in Syd, and previously in Melbs.

It's absolutely a migrant issue, unfortunately. And I say that as a member of a migrant family. We all know it's true .. even my relatives most recently arrived.
