https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-05-11/federal-budget-2021-frydenberg-decades-deficits/13337336 I really wonder why no-one starts a thread about this record growing deficit crises by our coalition Liberal/National government? Just think back to the Rudd/Gillard years, they were criticized by not running black figures almost daily by T.Abbott and J.Bishop. Where are you people? Don't you care about the future of your children and grandchildren? Get vaccinated and let us open the borders, so that our country can accelerate again and provide work for all. Dire situation for our universities and tourism industry and for anyone, who doesn't want to live behind an iron curtain (which was used to deter people from leaving communist countries). Reg.
1. I am concerned about the deficit. Under Morrison no less than Gillard or Rudd. 2. During a global pandemic is different to 2012. 3. Morrison is simply another corporatist shill anyway, the liberal party are a joke (at least they're a good joke, I get a chuckle out of them)
Hi Steady, 10 years back iron ore prices spiraled downwards, today we see record heights. Scomo has become the spin doctor in regards to not cutting emission. Nothing will happen. We will support coal as long as someone is buying it. Whatever Scomo says, with our goals (emission goals, global warming, sustainability) for 2030 or any other dates, is a lie. Now we have covid, and the scare mongering right are in full action. I say, get the jab and open the borders. Covid won't leave us, it has been around for a very long time, and it might survive mankind. Now the Brits are taking international students, I say well done Scomo, you know how to ruin a country.... Regards
Yeah, funny how the 'debt & deficit disaster' crowd literally disappear whenever conservatives get into power. The Libs got into power in March 2013 & they still haven't delivered a surplus. If excuses could be monetized we would be debt free. Of course, the moment the ALP is back in power the deficit nazis will be out again wailing about their poor grandchildren.
Yep, absolutely. The GFC debt was a mole hill in comparison and the detractors swamped the forum nauseatingly to vent their spleen. I’m thinking when Labor gains power again this section will come to life with narratives about how Labor created the deficient and debt issue lol.
The problem is that Australia is still going through the pandemic. Want to compare the current world issues in comparison to past events such as the GFC and Great depression is rather simplistic. BUT it is funny, that some want to complain about cutting welfare to workers to keep them employed in serious time complain about where the money comes from. I pose this question, would ALP\Greens coalition provide the same support for the economy AND provide a budget surplus? Or is this entire thread just sour grapes???
wages have not kept up with inflation debts will keep getting bigger and eventually the interest on that debt will never be able to be paid off
Last time I checked the pandemic began in early 2020, which gives the LNP an excuse for 18 months of the time since they got into power in early 2013. The rest of that time is just a reminder that the LNP are better at convincing people they are great economic managers than they are at actually managing an economy. There is no coalition between the ALP & the Greens, so your last comment makes no sense.
Possibly because they can have these conversations anywhere any time in their home country with people whose opinions they consider better informed or more interesting. LOL I guess.
Oh sorry just reference that the ALP needs Greens preference to be elected. I know there is no coalition except when last time the ALP needed to make a deal… True that the Pandemic started late 2019, but that is the start of the free fall into ever increasing debt without clear view of return to surplus. Now I know ALP supporters want to say that time is up and the Coalition should except responsibility for a debt and trajectory the ALP created but the ship just doesn’t turn around because they want it too. As stated previously as one or two keep trying to lay blame for the debt the nation is in, it would have been far worse if Labor was to remain at the wheel of the economy. BUT, and that is a big BUT, the pandemic has now changed all that. Now when the ALP points to the economy before and pretends they had nothing to do with the state of it and how the nation would have been better had they been running it we can say they are full of it(as per usual). However, this current quantitative easing and borrowing brings about new perspective of the future we need to deal with. To me this still appears to be a sour grapes thread trying it’s best to post insult to other because that is all that some have. The problem is that the pandemic has brought the issue raised to the forefront of the Coalition’s ownership and will need to be addressed. Now after all that, this situation is different from anything Australia has ever faced. With the last world-wide pandemic Australia had its own manufacturing and markets. Now the world depends on other nations and they are all going through this together. We live in new times and new ways need to be found. Being stuck in the past trying to lay blame will do nothing for the future. Albo Knows this and has started the rhetoric of the future which has upset the coalition, but they still need to show they have a handle on how to manage the economy. They still seem ready to just borrow to pay welfare at the moment (so to speak), I think if these parties remain stuck in the outdated past Australia will look elsewhere for it’s leadership.
Talk about taking a long time to say absolutely nothing. Pretty much a perfect explanation of post #11.
