Both Sinema and Manchin said TODAY they support both bills, just not a path to get them passed without some Obstructionist support.... You can give that angle of attack up now...

We agree about the decision to make the speech part. It still makes me feel icky. And FFS it was just a joke. A good one at that.

And both Sinema and Manchin have both said they don't support the end of the legislative filibuster. Your team will get nothing. And you shouldn't. Chuck should lose his seat for even suggesting these methods to advance Biden's tyranny.

And I understand that.... why can't you understand what I'm saying?? I'm not trying give SNL Deep Thoughts here...

Also, there have been many (good) suggestions other than "ending" the filibuster than Joe says he supports.... until he doesn't.... until he does.... until it's the weekend...... until the sun shines....

Also, Jason Johnson on MSNBC just had the perfect line on Kristen Sinema and her "support" for voting rights

(I'm sorta paraphrasing here, since I don't want to rewind)

"She has the Meat Loaf stance on voting rights.... I would do ANYTHING for voting rights.... but I won't do that".

Anybody of a certain age should get a chuckle out of that...

After Biden meeting, Manchin issues lengthy statement: “I will not vote to eliminate or weaken the filibuster.”

It hasn't been a good day for Biden. He lost in the SCOTUS, and his peeps are fleeing his sinking ship. I don't expect to see this again until election season ramps up and the democrats in the senate who supported this are endlessly reminded of that fact. Democrats do seem to like their tyranny these days.

That's because you didn't read the article very well. Here are some select quotes, with highlights to draw your attention to the relevant parts:

Schumer's "loophole" may allow the bill to be "debated", but it won't lead to a vote on the actual bill. There will still be a 60-vote-threshold cloture vote to end that debate and move on to voting on the bill, and Schumer will lose that vote. If he does what he's claimed, he'll then call for a vote to override the parliamentarian and go "nuclear" on the filibuster, and if Sinema and Manchin do what they've said, he'll lose that vote too. At that point, the Senate will probably "table" the entire thing and move onto something else, as they're stymied from proceeding, and debating it endlessly will waste their limited time in the majority.

He was 1/1 in the SCOTUS, and it's not really his loss..... nobody will ever blame him for trying, but having 6 idiots not understand the value of what he was trying to do. His plan was way above their simple skills...

Fortunately, MANY MANY companies are doing mandates anyway, so they're seeing the positives...

I don't suppose you've given it 2 seconds of thought how truly stupid that sounds... Minority Republicans will filibuster STARTING a debate, then they will filibuster ENDING the same debate.

I'm not sure I could summarize a completely broken system any better than that...

Manchin and Sinema are certainly making a point, but it's not the one you think they are....

Republicans will filibuster the bill whenever the opportunity presents itself.

You really don't seem to understand the parliamentary procedures at play here. Minority parties in the Senate normally have two chances to "filibuster" a bill (by requiring a cloture vote to proceed):

    1) on the motion to proceed to the bill's consideration (before the Senate has even begun debating the bill)

    2) on the bill itself (after the bill has been debated, when the majority is ready to move on to an "up-or-down" vote on the bill itself, sometimes called "final passage")

Your post #18 references a gimmick Schumer wants to use to get around #1. That would allow them to take up the bill and debate it. The majority party senators can all make flowery speeches where they lie and exaggerate and claim that they're trying to "save our democracy" or "protect voting rights" or whatever. However, Schumer's gimmick does not get around #2, and so the GOP, after having been foiled at filibustering the bill at the outset of debate, will take advantage of the second opportunity the Senate rules give them to filibuster a bill at the end of the debate, and will force a cloture vote before the Senate can vote on their federal-power-grab bill. The Dems won't have 60 votes to succeed. Schumer says he will then make a motion to overrule the parliamentarian and move the legislation with 51 votes. Manchin and Sinema (and probably others) won't support him on that vote, and he'll lose.

Pretty sure Joe worries more about him losing his seat if he caves instead of the 9 losing theirs.

Of course they will... they don't want to be forced to vote against something they voted for in the past.... How sucky would that be??

Insiders are saying there are about 10 other Dem Senators who don't want to end the filibuster but are riding Sinemas and Manchins coattails.

    And, So WHAT?

    That was 12 Years ago.
Before McConnell stole a Supreme Court Seat and 4 Years of Trump's Inflammatory Divisive BS Irrevocably POISONED any sort of Bi-Partisan Compromise.

I am sure that many politicians (and people, in general) have changed their positions in the last 12 years.

What are you talking about? Which Republicans voted for this federal-power-grab bill in the past?
