Russians are being 'barraged with claims of looming Ukrainian attacks' by state media, NBC reporter says

Messaging from Russian government sources and state media suggest that an invasion of Ukraine could begin at any moment, NBC News reporter Matthew Bodner said on Meet the Press on Sunday.

"We're seeing a very harsh increase in rhetoric here," Bodner told host Chuck Todd from Moscow. "Forty-eight hours ago we saw … the switch flipped on Russian state media, and it has been wall to wall — and I cannot emphasize this enough — since that happened, since the announcement of evacuations from [separatist-held eastern Ukraine]."

The New York Times reported that separatist leaders, claiming an attack by Ukrainian government forces was imminent, announced Friday that women and children should evacuate the areas they control and that all military-age males should register to fight.

This news is a little old, but it is important in this context. The notion that Ukrainian attacks are imminent suggests to me that Russia is hoping for just that, that they want the Ukrainians to attack "separatist" and/or actual Russian forces so that they have carte blanche to roll in with everything they've got. Or, alternatively, they may even be planning more false flags. In fact, it's most likely that both contingencies have been planned for at this point. Either they get the "attack" they want from Ukraine's military or they stage another false flag or two in order to give themselves the pretext for further invasion, especially of territory beyond the Donbas.

I am reminded of a famous monologue in the German film Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes:

Putin is literally acting just like Hitler and the Sudetenland.

But soon it will be half of Ukraine under Putin's heal.

Could be. I'm sure that's what that bloodsucker wants, though, because he will send in everything to capture Kiev and try to retake Ukraine if they do.

I'm also thinking that he's banking on his own kind of sanctions to soften the western response, especially from us. Oil prices are sure to skyrocket the more this thing escalates, and Bloodymir's timing is notable since we're approaching the midterm elections in a matter of months. Maybe he hopes that this administration will back down over fears of what $7+ gasoline would mean.

 

Let him take his time....the more time he wastes the more lethal aid flows into Ukraine....making the cost of further incursion even higher.

What I'm surprised is how zombified whatever residents there are in DPR. I'm assuming there's sleeper agents everywhere.

 

The majority of the population in those regions is probably invaders from the motherland at this point.

 

Are there any left in the DPR....last I saw they were stuck in buses on open road....or in Rostov...where "hospitable" Russkis were yelling at them to leave.

I saw some of his "pre recorded" speech so to speak....looked like he was drugged up to the gills. Maybe snorted up some krokodil before going on that rant.

 

I saw a good chunk of it live on Telekanal Zvezda, I think it was. He sure was playing the part of a furious, aggrieved, slightly drunk (by Russian standards) old Sovok well.

 

NATO must endure as long as there are authortarian regimes with powerful military forces and nuclear weapons, sadly. That means that Russia and China will both need a regime change before NATO can ever consider disbanding.

It's unfortunate, but there we have it. I suppose we should thank Putler for making NATO great again, at least.

 

Moldova isn't in NATO.

It is likely that Putin will invade Moldova as soon as he captures Odessa (if he captures Odessa).

Reopening the Keystone XL pipeline and letting the Canadians sell tar sands oil to US refineries would keep gas prices from rising above a certain point.

 

Dude, the entire world is going to need good luck. This has the potential to turn into the mother of all spam storms.

 

My guess is Moldova is looking to change that very quickly.

Romania and Moldova would be stronger together. Poor little Modova is tiny and landlocked as it is now, but they speak a common language with Romania and would certainly be more nationally secure against Russian aggression if they unified. They were driven apart by the Soviets, unfortunately.

 

Moldova is Bessarabia....it has no Russian history...other than what mafialand foisted on them....it's old Romanian territory.

 

Exactly. The Soviets encouraged Moldovan separation from Romania. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

 

That may change....same as this Transnistria....some bull$hit creation by the asiatic freedom.....no one recognizes.....same will be like DPR.

Hopefully it gets reintegration back into Moldova....then back into Romania.

Producing more oil. As prices go up, so will US shale production. Biden won't stand in the way of that.

 

If he wants to dramatically increase production, he'll look to Canadian tar sands oil.

If you want to flood the market with a huge amount of oil to keep prices down, I can't think of a more effective way to do it.
