A pro-Kremlin tabloid, Komsomolskaya Pravda, on Monday reported that almost 10,000 Russian troops had been killed in the war in Ukraine — before quickly deleting the numbers from the site. Komsomolskaya Pravda later released a statement claiming it was hacked.

Before the figures were removed, the tabloid cited the Russian Ministry of Defense as the source. The report said that 9,861 Russian troops had died and 16,153 had been injured since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the unprovoked invasion in late February.

These numbers are far higher than what had been reported by the Russian government, and it was unclear if they were accurate. Previously, Russia's Ministry of Defense reported that 498 Russian troops had been killed. And a recent US intelligence estimate placed the Russian death toll in Ukraine at roughly 7,000.

So 350 Russian soldiers were dying per day in Ukraine, which is a devastating number for Putin.

And he will not be able to keep this bloodshed secret for much longer.

Former General Wesley Clark said that Russia could only hold out for another 10-12 days without running out of food, fuel and ammunition.

The weapons and information provided by the West have so far tipped the balance in favor of the Ukrainian army.

Hmmm 10,000 dead usually would mean a lot more wounded than 16,000. American Civil War was a 1-3 ratio of dead to wounded bumped up to 1-5 accounting for MIA, desertion and captured. Modern era with medical improvements dead to wounded is even more skewed.

Did Russia forget to bring medics? Or are the numbers a bit weird? Idk

im not sure how you stop 200,000 men across 3 fronts without killing thousands. This isn’t taking place on a single battlefield that is over in several hours and the grave diggers can count the bodies. Bodies are scattered across a huge amount of land. All we have are estimates.

If that comforts you fine, although if the site was hacked you'd have to ask why two paragraphs in one single article were all altered and nothing else. Regardless archive.org managed to capture the original report before it was deleted so its still be circulated.

Regardless I'm sure you'll remain happy with the 'progress' being made by the Russian army.

It took nine years to accumulate 14,000 Soviet dead in Afghanistan...

who says they have been stopped... their simply in no hurry, for this is no blitzkrieg... the ukrs also say they stack up the 'bodies' in railway fridges, but no footage of these has been shown, to date.

then explain the strategy to me, I’m wildly curious how an extended war with finite resources and a tanking economy vs. a Ukrainian army that is being limitlessly supplied by other countries works at all to Russias advantage. You must have some reason for specifically believing the implausible bordering on ridiculous, I hope there’s more to it than you happen to like Russia.

The source is not Ukrainian propaganda but a Russian newspaper.

And the number of 10,000 Russian soldiers killed is consistent with what the Pentagon has estimated.

    Of course.

Putin 'denazifies' Ukraine by razing cities, razing schools and hospitals....

No major city has been taken after one month of operation.

Kiev is not even surrounded, the supply of weapons is going smoothly.

I knew there would be a pro-Putin person who would show up on this forum sooner or later.

Just watch your favorite dictator being torn down.

At over 10% casualties, I can say with confidence that this campaign was a failure in terms of military goals.

Maybe Putin isn't that smart after all.

Sure, what's a good Russian/Ukrainian connected social media site where people post videos?
I'm pretty sure they can't hide it.

And what's the key command to switch things to slavic again? Someone showed me awhile ago but I forgot.

He is smart, but he has been lied to.

Putin is feared by his staff, who prefer to tell him what he want to hear than to tell him that his army is corrupt, that the equipment is falling into disrepair and that the men are poorly trained.

So when Putin wanted to invade Ukraine, instead of telling him that it would be a catastrophe, his generals told him that the Ukrainians would welcome him with flowers and that the country would fall within a week.

The Russians suffered 1.1 million casualties in the Battle of Stalingrad. They won the battle and in so doing won the war. The Ukrainians cannot win this war. All they can do is prolong it and cause the utter decimation of their cities. A negotiated peace is the solution. This war is similar to a war between Canada and America. Canada could never win such a war and prolonging the war would bring nothing but destruction to their country.

    Some don't want to know.
There is a difference. Too much propaganda is not an excuse for remaining ignorant on where to find the truth.

Canada could succeed in preventing us from invading Mexico if they held out long enough, and the world was against us.

That might as well have been a different universe. In that alt-universe, 80 million people died, Germany had overrun France and Poland, other eastern block countries and was decimating England.

Exactly, what a joke! Ofcourse he wanted this over in a week to show how bad ass the Russian Army is. Now the world has seen they're pretty much a joke to the point all they have left is the old Nazi trick and demoralize the citizens by bombing schools, churches, historical sites and hospitals. Dumb ass Putin has set his country back 50 years or more with these war crimes. The international community will shun Russia to the point his ass will probably try to launch a nuke and immediately will get half his country decimated.

Name me one American ex-general or military expert who predicts a defeat of the Ukrainian army.

    Just one.

You can't invade a country of 44 million people with 200,000 troops.

    It's impossible.

To take a city, you need 4 times more troops than those holding the positions.

Even after a month of campaigning, the Russians have only taken Kerson, they have not even surrounded Kiev, Kharkiv has not fallen and we are not even talking about Odessa, which is a strategic city.

This war will go down in history as one of the greatest strategic mistakes in military history.
