There is a failure to understand why nobody wants to rent a home to a person convicted of such crimes, once a background check shows such, also, that person's credit records are also likely to be deficient, and employment and jobs are also very scarce for those in like circumstances.
That is a different issue. Related to be sure, but coming from property owners as opposed to the government. The thread is discussing how the law prevents these offenders, in some states, from getting housing even assuming the owner was willing to rent or sell to them.
And I am simply pointing out that it is not the law that directly prevents a sex offender from obtaining housing, being obtuse is no help. When you apply for an apartment or private dwelling rental, the Management performs credit and background checks and there must be an availability of said dwelling, nobody knows if an applicant is a sex offender until the information on the applicant arrives, and then it is an unsuitable applicant, nobody wanrs to rent to a sex offender or someone with a bad rental history. Home owners associations also have criterias. Sales of private homes often do not have much criteria beyond the home owner's ideology or personal or political reasons.
I have noticed it seems there are no criminals that some Democrats will not rush to become advocates for.
Bet you didn't read the case file to know the real reason he was convicted. You just took his word for it, didn't you?
There needs to be different categories of sex offenders, meaning specifying who was an assailant and those who were not.
This is a state by state thing. At least in FL, the sex offender list has the actual crime they were charged with.
Paedos are notoriously cunning and, once released into the community, will rung rings around the authorities in their determination to access children, whatever it takes. I'd put them down if I had my way.
What about other sex crimes ? Such things as Rape of anyone of any age. All are particularly heinous crimes of violence. I find it rather oddish, that out of a blue sky, you bring up one small sliver out of an entire pie of known criminal behaviours.
No crime is as loathsome as some pervert using overwhelming strength to violate the weakest member in any society. I find it oddish that you need to have that pointed out to you.
Except that it is. While you can show trend in landlords not want to rent/lease housing to sex offenders, there are those out there who would, especially if they find out the applicant is one who is on there for stupid reasons like public urination, or a technicality of age difference. But if the law says that such an offender can't reside within x miles of such and such a location, the landlord cannot rent to the offender even if they want to. Which is separate from the law. If the law says that it is legal for the offender to reside there because it is not within the proscribed ranged of such and such locations, the landlord can still declined the rent/lease to the offender. HOA rules are not the law. So there are two separate factors that can affect if an offender gets housing.
if someone is really so dangerous they need to be on a list, they should not be released from prison the problem with the list is also so many on it that should not be
At the risk of sounding crass, I am glad they are featuring a woman. Far too often people are assuming that it will always be a man who is on these list and having these issues.
With all due respect, what on earth was she doing sleeping with a 14 year old? Where were the parents, while these kids were drinking and shagging freely in the living room?
Doesn't matter. In most states, public urination is a misdemeanor, ticketable offense. You pay the ticket, they waggle a finger at you and say "Don't do that again" and you're on your merry way again. However there are 11 states where they take it further. In those states, just getting your wedding tackle out where someone can see it, get offended by it and thus report you is enough to land someone on the RSO list. There are two more states that also will put you on the RSO list for publicly draining the lizard, but they at least have the sense to stipulate that you have to do it in front if a minor to be classified as such.
No I don't feel sorry for them in fact it's very hard for me to say this. They have to live somewhere. We either have to find a place for them or they live on the streets possibly across the street from a school or daycare. I don't really have any sympathy for them it's more about control over them. That being said if we're going to provide housing for people I think just about everybody else should be before sex offenders
11-year-old became lifetime registered "sex offender" for touching sister 19 year old put on sex offender registry for having sex with underage girl
The only problem I have with this are the people put on sex offender lists that shouldn't be put there. I.E two consenting adults having sex in public have been put on sex offender registries. While I don't approve of it, that's not a "sex offender".
