Tis you that does not understand MAD .. Your claim is abject nonsense on the basis of MAD .. Russia will not restrict itself to "conventional" in a war for the motherland .. the claim "well we could beat them in a conventional war" made ridiculous as you could never take the Russian homeland without it going nuclear.

and that is the simple fact you are missing.

This entire (ridiculous ) argument was started by claims that Russia could declare war on (all of ) the West. No-one here claimed the West wanted to or ever will want to declare war on Russia! Why would it?

Sorry to break it too you but there is literally nothing Russia has that the West wants or needs which under normal conditions it couldn't simply obtain from Russia via simple trade. All the 'stuff' Russia has that the West needs? The West would happily buy, either with hard currency or via the exchange of goods and services. The West didn't and still doesn't 'want' Russian Territory. Why would it, birthrates are declining all over the globe. Hell it didn't even 'want' regime change in Russia. It was perfectly happy to let Putin go on beating his own populace into the ground just so long as he left everybody else alone and played by the diplomatic 'rules' everyone else stuck to. Everyone makes money and the world keeps turning. End of story.

But no, 'Putin the Great' decided now was the time to invade another major sovereign power on its border with Western Europe, all in aid of his egotistical quest restore Russia's lost empire and right his name into the history books as the greatest leader in Russian history since Peter.

Well, your would be Czar broke the 'rules' and stopped playing nice. Now everyone gets to reap the consequences and see exactly why those rules were there in the first place. The West will pay, Ukraine will pay but most of all Russia will pay, both in terms of dead soldiers and with a ruined economy. And all without a single Western soldier marching across the border into Russian territory or firing a shot in anger.

It is amusing, if entirely predictable, that people who posture as 'anti-imperialist' whenever Westren nations or Israel do the slightest thing they don't like seem entirely unconcerned when Russia & other dictatorships do the same or worse. China can throw hundreds of thousands of Uighurs into prison for no reason, Syria can gas children & Russia can repeatedly invade & annexe territory from its neighbours with barely a peep....or effective support.

Putin knows this. He also remembers Lenin's comments on 'useful idiots'.

I believe Putin wants to be dictator of Ukraine. What else would Putin want to destroy Ukraine for?

"Sorry to break it to you " this convo was about your claims in relation to conventional war .. not the West wanting or needing stuff from Russia , and even your new irrelevant claim is demonstrably false nonsense.

After this raging nonsense . you call Putin My Czar in a desperate attempt at Ad Hom Fallacy .. Don't be projecting your fixation with Vlad on me mate ..

You did manage to get one thing correct - likely by accident .. indeed Vlad broke the Rules .. but Since US/Nato has thrown out the rule book .. what else did you expect. Told you "Do as we say - Not as we do" foreign policy gonna come back to bite. ... so go cry your river somewhere else .. cause I told ya so.

Reread my post. I didn't say the west didn't 'want' stuff. I said anything they wanted or needed they could buy on the open market. Same way as Russia could trade for what it wanted from the West in return. Why is that so hard for you to understand? Russia literally has NOTHING the West could be bothered going to war over. But there is plenty the West has that Russia or rather Putin would rightly fear. Open democracies, the rule of law, press freedom and a generally high level of prosperity. Everything that is anathema to a 'would be' Stalin who rightly fears the example a democratic and rich Ukraine would set to Russia's population in general. Hell, four million of your youngest, most well educated citizens have already voted with their feet and left Russia since this war began. All of them with skills readily employable in the the West.

For the rest? Putin's the one who compared himself to Peter the Great, not me. It's a matter of record. You can literally watch him do it on the video feed of your choice! So you've got a choice Gifty, you either agree with him when he say's he's the best thing that has ever happened to Russia since the invention of Vodka or you don't. Which is it?

That's negotiations. What's written and signed in a treaty is the agreement. Just because you might tell me something and swear to it, that doesn't mean it holds Russia and China to what you said.

That of course would be silly, as is your argument.

Once again. Germany is not NATO. Germany was never NATO. Germany was simply a member of NATO. Kohl represented himself. He never represented NATO. If Gorbachev or others are too stupid to realize, that's their problem.

Even then in 1991, the U.S. did not make the decisions for NATO. NATO made the decisions for NATO.

China has no power parity against the US. Therefore, China is in dire need of a powerful Russia.

Sorry, Russia isn't 'powerful' not in any sense that really matters. In the cold hard light of day its a mid level economic power. And in the end, that's what matter, economics.

Yes, it has worlds biggest nuclear arsenal bit so what? What is that actually good for.? You cant' eat it, sell it, project diplomatic or economic power with it. Russia doesn't have a huge population or a huge and (based on recent events) particularity threatening or effective army. It doesn't have a powerful navy it can use to project power across the globe. It's air force? Ditto. All it can do with it's nuclear weapons is deter attack because that's what nuclear deterrence is. And if no-one is actually interested in attacking you? Whats left?

Russia has a lot to be proud of but it is NOT one of the Worlds dominant economic powers and these days? That's all that counts.

No. As per usual you join a conversation weeks later where you weren't involved and have it all backwards. You missed the ops sarcasm perhaps.

He's saying it is not Ukraine who declared war! Like I'm saying it was not somalia who declared war on the class bully.

    Back on topic:

Ukraine fears western support will fade as media loses interest in the war

Costs and casualties are rising but Kyiv warns that the conflict with Russia is becoming normalised in people’s minds, at home and abroad.

If two people meet in the forest. One with a machine gun and the other with a suitcase of dollars. Who and to whom will clean the shoes?
This is an explanation for the optionality of military force.

Why would I want to re-read nonsensical blather that has nothing to do with your errant claims about conventional war ?
No one said Vlad does not have delusions of grandeur -- so why are you arguing as if they had ?
