https://www.breitbart.com/entertain...nd-tv-must-stop-irresponsible-gun-portrayals/ After extensive coverage from Breitbart News calling out the hypocrisy of actors and producers who’ve made fortunes from movies and TV shows with guns calling for more gun control, it seems that Hollywood elites finally agree. At least some of them. Numerous Hollywood power players are demanding the entertainment industry commit to “responsible” portrayals of guns in movies and TV shows. In an online petition, they cited the recent Uvalde, Texas, school shooting as a call to action. “We are not asking anyone to stop showing guns on screen. We are asking writers, directors and producers to be mindful of on-screen gun violence and model gun safety best practices,” the petition states. My thoughts. They will continue theirJohn Wick type of gun porn that glorifies violence, albeit with some hand wringing by a few. They make money and for their profit the minds of marginal people have become damaged. The filty spewing out of Holloywood is causing major damage to the mental health of American society.
No, Hollywood is not answerable for anything, it does not glorify spree killers and gang bangers, most guns in movies are wielded by cowboys and cops.
I grew up watching people shoot each other in westerns and war movies. How come this problem didn't exist back then? Now, we have parental controls, Elmer Fudd no longer has a gun, and kids are shielded from such content. What happened?
Big difference between High Noon or Shane and a John Wick movie. The concern is that heavy exposure of children to graphic violence can lead to desensitization. IMHO HBO's West World Season 3 is the sort of content that would totally desensitize youth and many adults to violence. Do parental controls work? The functioning nuclear family is in a state of decline.
Yes, parental controls work. I controlled the content, schedule, and duration of every screen my kids had access to. I did not shield them from violent content; I merely provided guidance. I played GTA and COD with my kids. We pwned noobs as a family! I also took them to the shooting range and taught them safety and marksmanship. I agree with the decline of the nuclear family being a main factor. Kids without a strong male role model at home will find one on the screen. Most parents let their children be consumed with their screens.
Breitbart? Right-wing bloviating. Hong Kong, Korea and Japan produce and consume some of the most violent movies. Long before Wick, see one of my favs John Woo's "Hard Boiled". Those three countries also lead in consumption of the most violent video games. Marriages are on the decline in all developed countries. In all EU countries there are fewer marriages per capita than in the US and 8 EU countries have more births outside of marriage than inside. All these countries have their crazies, bigots, angry minorities, crime, drugs, nationalists and abusers. What does all these countries don't have? 2A
To going back to what JET touch on, do you think that the content kids are consuming today are desensitized them to violence. I know for a fact that growing up in a though neighborhood and seeing these types of things on a daily basis does.
I believe its the lack of guidance, not the content. Of course, those with mental issues are a different story. Unfortunately, we treat mental illness with pharma products that list "Suicidal thoughts or actions" as side effects. If someone doesn't value their own life, they don't value yours either. I grew up in a tough neighborhood. I witnessed violent acts and feared for my life. These gangsters, for the most part, had no male role model at home, so they found one on the streets. I grew up without a father, but was lucky my mother got me a positive male role model through an organization, Big Brothers. I did have access to guns as a child. I was often home alone and I was taught how to defend myself.
Scarface No country for Old Men Straw Dogs The Godfather I, II, III The Mechanic (and the remake) The Professional Just a few I could quickly think of
I've voted "YES". And it seems I'm the only one. Ok. It happens I'm the devil's advocate. It's evident that Lara Croft wouldn't be Lara Croft without shooting to everybody! The same about Arnold, Clint ... and all the others. But ... The real problem is the kind of communication that Hollywood producers use. In Italy we have a tradition of movies with "heroes" who massacre villains [beaten them!]. But Bud Spencer hasn't influenced the behavior of Italians with his unforgettable fights. It's about how you show the fight in a movie. At Hollywood they should spend some thoughts about this. In any case ... an Italian film director [Sergio Leone] has endorsed the attitude of the "cowboy". So, probably I'm the "white fly" in this debate, but I like to be the one to make the others reason a bit.
One study will suggest that violent games are a healthy outlet for dealing with stress and actually reduce violence, and another will use the same data to correlate simulated violence with more real violence. Its just more narrative driven 'science' imo. Whats certain is its a far more complicated issue than trying to pick one cause. Income, mental illness, drugs (legal and not), culture, population density, family cohesion and even physical health and nutrition will all play an interconnected role in violence. Whenever 'experts' try to claim a certainty that 'this one thing is to blame', its clear they're only 'expert' in propaganda.
I really really hope that they stop the gun porn as it is one of the reasons I post on the topic - these movies don’t just show in America
Well unless you can prevent the criminals from getting them...you disarm your civilians and you are serving up lambs to the slaughter. And since you can't prevent the criminals from getting them and refuse to come down hard on street gangs...why are we even talking about this?
Bud and Terence used their hands ... When they were together! Terence used also weapons as well [they called him "Trinity"].
