Butter, you have just slid off my back and straight down to the floor. I will not respond to your posts from here on in. I have better things to do, like watching the paint dry in my living room.

Negative Nellies are detrimental to positive progress when facing problems.

No egg on the Positive face of… The Floridian Governor Ron DeSantis when facing problems that need to be solved.

    https://www.flgov.com/2022/10/02/florida-response-to-hurricane-ian-continues-4/

    https://www.constructiondive.com/ne...ecovery-workers-demand-labor-shortage/633393/

Positive points of view for Florida recovery snippets from article follow…

    A concern, not a crisis
Even with a high demand for workers that may not be met, the work will still attract skilled employees to the region.

“Construction companies and workers have an admirable record of responding swiftly to disasters and emergencies,” Simonson said, indicating he assumed crews arrived on the scene as soon as they could. “Also, it is likely that some projects that were underway or about to start will now be canceled or postponed, freeing up some workers and materials that would not otherwise have been available.”

Federal and state financial resources may help bring some of those workers to Florida, Cona said. But that won’t change the nationwide demand for workers, so other regions may feel the effect of Florida’s draw.

    That demand will likely
translate to higher wages, as laborers could look to elevate their pay as high as they can.

    Looking ahead for Florida
Both Simonson and Cona said Ian will likely have little long-term impact on Florida’s economic outlook as a place to live or visit.

“Florida continues to have a significant number of people moving to the state and now adding rebuilding efforts in the state the demand for skilled workers will remain strong,” Cona said.

Simonson added that some areas, like New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, never fully regained their population or tourism from before the storms. Nevertheless, several hurricanes that hit Florida in the mid-aughts, Simonson said, did little long-term damage to the state’s economy and population growth.

I don’t foresee Ian as changing the attractiveness of Florida overall as a destination for permanent residents, ‘snowbirds,’ vacations and convention-goers, although specific venues and towns are likely to be affected for quite some time,” Simonson said, adding that he is scheduled to speak at a Florida event next month, and hasn’t heard any cancelation news yet. “I expect Florida will continue to attract construction projects and the firms and workers to execute them.”

Negative reaction is a wringing of hands. Positive reaction is… Hands hard at work to restore what has been broken.

    This is spectacularly naive.

Many MANY people are prepared to move to the other side of the world to gain economic advantage. The planet is swarming with the movement of economic migrants doing just that.

It's always interesting on a psychological level to see how and why people take the positions on migration that they do.

For example, why exactly do you value your lazy neighbour and fellow citizens that you never met over a more productive person living in another country who comes into the country and "steals their job"?

It's a weird tribalism thing I know, but makes little sense to me. If that mexican fellow works harder than that guy from Kansas or wherever, why don't the other Kansans want to swap?

And why should being born in a particular geographic location mean you are entitled to anything more than somebody born elsewhere?

Because that's how NATIONS work, Love. "That Mexican fellow" is not one your fellows .. he's Mexico's fellow. He's no more yours, than you are Japan's or Denmark's. If you don't like nations, then you don't like tribes .. and if you don't like tribes, why do have mutually beneficial relationships with other human beings?

Do you compare your 'entitlements' to those of the Japanese or the Danish?

Putting undocumented immigrants on a pathway to citizenship would increase U.S. GDP by up to $1.7 trillion over the next decade, raise wages for all Americans, and create hundreds of thousands of new jobs, advancing the country’s economic recovery.

Well, to be fair, I don't much like human beings. So I'm biased.

And no, I don't much like tribes. I don't feel any more connection to my neighbour, just because we live nearby, than to my friends on the other side of the planet. Perhaps that comes from moving around so much throughout my life.

America has an addiction to cheap labor.

The problem is, if you have cheap labor, you also have lots of poor people in your country, and all the social problems that come along with that.

You do know that the U.S. has a special guest worker problem, where persons from Mexico can temporarily enter and work in the U.S.? Temporary being the key word.

Shipping people from one place to another is called people trafficking.
People trafficking is illegal ...it is why there is such a problem with illegal immigration.
It does not become legal just because a governor does it.
Shipping people to work is the closest thing to modern day slavery imaginable. If these people are not paid, it is indeed slavery.

De Santos is supping with the devil.

It is hilarious to me when I see someone on this forum sceaming fascist when they have no idea what a fascist truly is.

Don't ask Golem, I won't waste my time explaining to someone who has NO intention of even trying to understand what another poster is saying.

Why are you so filled with hate?

Awww now you want to use a different angle :) The no evidence, flawed is just more leftist :blahblah::blahblah::blahblah:

Ya ya same old bullshit, you can't put anyone on the path to citizenship when they jump the border illegally and live in stealth. This nonsense has been an empty-fruitless leftwing talking point my whole life! Old hat and never happens because illegals simply don't pursue naturalization opportunities we have now..

    Left wing biased

Just some other guy's opinion about another guy's opinion with no real counter but lip service..

and you believe that with expensive labor that the U.S. will be in better shape? That rich people are willing to till the land, lay the sod, and put the tile?

Which is not who I’m referring to. An asylum seeker who went through the proper protocols and declared themselves at a port of entry is not a problem. The Hispanic swimming across the rio grande and running across our border undetected is.

Not if he claims asylum when he arrives.
The method of his arrival is irrelevant.
If he however, then disappears, he is illegal.

In fact it is universally respected that rich Americans are the most generous philanthropists for quite a while.
Bill Gates is just the best known.

The same thing has happened here in the UK because of Brexit. They got rid of all the migrants and now are facing dangerous shortages of workers in the health service as well as other sectors. It's so bad that the government has had to initiate a 2 billion pound program to recruit essential foreign workers after throwing them out.

We are not talking about philanthropy but about a willingness to do the necessary jobs that are laborious and low paying.

    Hi, crank.

That there are many people who move for economic advantage is a given. They are not necessarily those who find their subsistence lives threatened by climatic conditions or predatory governments. It was the latter that I had in mind.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well.

There will be lot of new construction in SW Florida and historically there has been a large percentage of Latino immigrants working in framing, roofing, concrete pouring, drywalling, tiling, painting etc in that industry. In stead of playing silly games, DeSantis should be making sure we have the workers we need for the coming re-building efforts there.
