Should you save a dying stranger if you know they eat MEAT? Oxford philosopher controversially argues that it can be ethical to let them die because of the suffering they cause to animals Argument stems from the great suffering a meat-eater inflicts on animals in life Expert says chickens in factory farms suffer for months in tortuous conditions So the lesser evil could be to let carnivores die in emergencies, the expert claims Even a promise to convert to veganism might not make them worth saving There’s nothing “controversial” about it. His only supporters are going to be rabid vegans & other so-called intellectuals, whose response will be "of course." Apart from the chilling indifference, the application of such a credo re: life-or-death situations is not only reprehensible but contrary to human nature. One can only imagine the abuse spewed my way if I were to suggest that letting vegans die under similar situations would at least lower the shrillness of society’s ambient background noise. Setting aside his nationality for the moment, where do you suppose this dipstick's philosophy is more likely to be found on our side of the pond? Left or right? Food for thought. In the meantime, here's a fig leaf extended to the vegans among us: my recipe for the best asparagus ever.
Of course such extremism comes from the left. I propose that one should not go out of their way to perform CPR on such an idiot
I prefer crab (snow or King) to the lobster but that looks like an amazing dinner. How do you cook your asparagus? I do mine on the grill with salt/pepper/EVOO/Minced Garlic and some cherry tomatoes sliced thinly. 3 min on each side and then serve.
Damn that looks good. I’m hungry BTW. I think plants have feelings and emotions too. And when you rip them out of the ground and eat them. Many times they’re still alive.
Grilled veggies are the best; the grill works magic on tomatoes. Ditto zucchini. Try swapping out the EVOO with ghee every now & then. Mucho yum.
If someone wants to go vegetarian or vegan for health or ethical reasons, okay. Most of the meals I eat these days are vegetarian for health reasons. However, they need to keep in mind that lots of animals die from plant-based agriculture as well, including everything from animals dying to heavy machinery to loss of habitat to hunting. Yes, most farms allow or encourage hunting on the land to keep out animals like deer and hogs.
Would an Oxford philosopher meet the criterion for an oxymoron? In this case, I would say "yes". My guess is that they wanted to get attention so they came up with this ridiculous statement. About the food, that photo looks absolutely wonderful! I love the combination of shellfish and steak! Need lots of butter, too! Why is most of the best food "bad" for people? lol BTW, those who love grilled food my want to try a smoker. My cooking habits changed after getting one! So far, best results (surprisingly), was jalapenos, smoked and then stuffed with cheese and bacon mixture, then battered and deep fried. Awesome! I have no problem with those who eat healthy, and it is a little gruesome to think of all the death in a meat processing plant, but damn if those aren't some tasty animals!
Dang! I ate at a Chinese place I frequent yesterday and the owner gave be some crab "in the Shell". I tried to give them to other eating and no takers, so I trashed them when I got home! GOUT Had to make a choice, pork of fish! Pork won
More members of the animal kingdom are tortured and killed to support a vegetarian diet than a meat based diet. Should vegetarians that eat an impossible burger die because a bunch of killdeer and ground squirrels and lady beetles were murdered and tortured to grow the burger? And before you try to label me as having an agenda, I’m a vegetarian who raises plants for human consumption and animals for human consumption.
Except it turns out that this guy wasn't actually advocating anything like this. He was just making the argument that, according to certain moral philosophical positions, this would be the logical conclusion. He himself does not actually subscribe to it. He eats meat.
I'm wondering if this same "philosopher" is against capitol punishment or if it's only the great suffering of animals that he's concerned with. Going further with his logic, what if you are a carnivore that only eats the meat of carnivore animals?
A Brit thing, right? I've never come across it in our neck of the woods & have always wanted to try it.
Hmm. Just looked for it on Amazon & there are oodles of options: German, French, Polish, Irish - so a European thing I suppose. I'm guessing it's penultimate peasant food, using the bits & pieces the high & mighty turned their noses up at. Peasants know how to eat, yo.
Pretty much, plus barely or rice and Blood.. Gotta be quick, playing with blood is tricky.. If you're around California they have a Slovenian festival in San Fransisco where is can be bought once a year.. Have to ask my Momz when it is!
