I'm not triggered by the words of others. I find it amusing that someone would refer to Trump supporters as a cult. Especially since I once belonged to a bonafide cult and am quite familiar with how one operates (according to them that labeled it as a cult). Trump supporters are not cultish, but it's a useful tool for leftist. Personally I think they should just stick with the Hillary label -- basket full of deplorables. It gives me a giggle.

 

Cult would be a correct term for some of them. For they promote QAnon cultist nonsense.

Actually, I have, but what you are referring to is context. Among African Americans, it is done within context, sometimes in a joking manner or to make a point. But for the rest of us, to use that word today without context shows poor taste and judgment, among other things. In other words, it is not as simple as black and white, pun intended here, on what words are and are not acceptable.

I am not a big Rap music fan, not my music forte, but I also don't complain about the music either if someone else likes it though.

 

I wrote a haiku back in the sixty the n word was in the midst of it all proceeded by and followed by a lot of other racial and ethnic epithets, at the end came the phrase, call a man a name destroy a soul, as yours dies.

I have never watched Blazing Saddles but I googled it and it was a comedy made in 1974 so I can easily imagine a lot of the content would not air today. I think that is the very crux or censorship and words. There are no absolutes and it is determined by society at a point in time. As times change people may view certain words or interactions as offensive where as in the past it was accepted. The reverse is true also. Watch this old SNL clip. Can you imagine this being aired today? Can you imagine trying to emulate this in your workplace?

It was a funny bit then and it is still a funny bit from the very best years of SNL. One of the funniest parodies I have ever seen. And the thing about Blazing Saddles, apart from it being one of the funniest movies ever made, is that its popularity continues unabated. You should watch it. Madeline Kahns "I'm Tired" is one of the many outrageous high points.

I personally am not offended by any names I'm called. My skin is very tuff. Still there are some among us that think cleverly calling a person this or that is the way to have fun. Fortunately I'm constrained by forum rules stopping me from showing them how to be a real flame warrior. For the most part all I see here are rookies.
