Should High School Libraries Be Furnished With Pornography?

I'm fairly anti-Puritan. It's not about gayness to me either. Show the evidence of harm. Anecdotally my parents did try, unsuccessfully, to keep me away from porn when I was a teen as well. It's just what they thought they were supposed to do. Though I don't think it's responsible for any issues.

As to why it's an issue for gay porn rather than straight porn/offensive literature, I think there's a demand because there's more angst in being different, so there's a higher drive to explore the difficulties of being that kind of person. That's something a comic strip is better for than just going to youporn as most middle-schoolers likely do for porn these days.

 

You just compared not exposing teens in school to porn, on the taxpayer dime, to Puritanism? Seriously?

Well let me use your own tactic there: why not just hand out cigarettes and cocaine in schools with taxpayer money.

Also, there are plenty of studies that have been done regarding the harm pornography causes to an adolescent mind. Maybe you should read some of them.

 

Go ahead and cite them and I'll probably find they're invalid, but my mind has been changed by studies before. Cigarettes are one of the most unambiguously harmful things people often enjoy. Porn (as long as not done to excess) is not. But this is more than porn, if we're talking about Gender Queer. Helping people to work through issues of gender identity and sexuality are absolutely something that should be in the library. Restricting it only makes the library more irrelevant in favor of the internet.

 

That's not the purpose of public schools at all.

The purpose of public schools is to provide an academic education.

Working through whatever is in your head is the job of a therapist.

Yes Gender Queer is more than porn. It's pedophilia.

The studies are a simple Google search away.
