… , in what was probably an unguarded moment, gets it, i.e. whether we should strive for equality or equity. So why can’t the rest of the Progressive left figure it out? https://twitter.com/sullydish/status/1632437022261407744?s=61&t=1C-6MX5oWs8jbnOeB6n3bA
where did this stupid meme originate? i would like to know 1 single name of a liberal or progressive who has said that our goal is "equality of outcome." bernie was quite explicit on this point in mahar's show friday. i'm sure that is what you are referring to.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day for two total minutes. This is one of week end at Bernie’s moments.
Absolutely right! It is the right that keeps conflating the two. Whether just for noise or as another mindless dig at the left, this bs allegation is but one of many myths righties just feel compelled to believe no matter how many times they are corrected.
You should read up more on what these terms mean a political policy context. Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome. Context matters we want to strive for both in some circumstances for example, our legal system. We want equality and equity.
No, quite accurate. I believe the far left will be entirely satisfied if everyone is equally poor, which is the easiest way of creating equity.
Again, perhaps another over simplification, but I think it’s reasonable to assert there are two broad categories of reasons why people remain poor or become poor. The first is bad luck. Examples include having bad health, receiving abuse as a child, having all the wrong examples of high status behavior around you as a child, etc. The second class of reasons is a toxic mix of selfishness and stupidity leading to a series of bad life decisions. Generally speaking, conservatives will acknowledge that both sets of reasons exist. Liberals almost never will, which explains their obsession with “equity.” They never allow for the failings of the individual or personal accountability.
